The book “ The Working Poor” by David K. Shipler is an excellent way of showing how it not the government's fault for one's poorness rather than one self for not taking advantages of opportunities they had or just making bad choices in general. The book talks about how different people end up in difficult situations due to their unacceptable behavior and then complain about it. “ Each person's life is the mixed product of bad choices and bad fortune, of roads not taken and roads cut off by the accident of birth or circumstance. It is difficult to find someone whose poverty is not somehow related to his or her uniwise behavior..” (Shipler, 6). My mother began to look for jobs and when she found one as a baker she took it even though it wasn't the best of pay but it would do. My father began to work in construction to begin to start accomplishing his goals of having his own house. Time began to pass and my father began to achieve more and more where he eventually went from having no car to owning four cars and buying his own house instead of renting. My parents have demonstrated that seeking for a better future actually gets you somewhere instead of waiting for it to come towards you. The government actually helps out if you need the help if just the fact that it isn't seeked for.
