Abraham Cahan’s tone dramatically changes throughout “from The Rise of David Levinsky Book V: I Discover America, Chapter 1”. Cahan’s tone changes from not having the best time moving to an unfamiliar place to having enough courage to share with his friend Gitelson, after he arrives in New York. I can infer that he had a hardship on his journey to America because in paragraph one the author states “I proved to be a good sailor, but the sea frightened me.
