“Do sleeping freshmen ever lie?” is presumably a question many adults ask themselves from time to time. In David Lubar’s book, Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie, the reader experiences Scott Hudson’s personal account of freshmen year. He encounters some cliche moments, yet overall has a unique adventure. With friends changing and interest in two girls who are polar opposites sparking, Scott has one hectic year. In the analysis of this novel, one could relate to the characters, experience similar places, relate the story to a song, describe aspects of the plot, and discover a theme. To begin with, as obvious as it may be for any of us to relate to this character, I correspond most to Scott in this novel. We share the same interest in subjects and have experienced similar situations. Although I was in elementary school when it happened, and Scott was in high school, both of us experienced close friends moving away and no longer going to the same school. We’ve also both experienced the pregnancy of our mothers with younger siblings, even though we were again at a different ages. “I staggered back to the table. This was so huge, I couldn’t even grasp the full meaning. It was like trying to inhale all the air in a beach ball”(Lubar 26). While Scott never talked about his nerves, he did say “I’m really excited about school”(Lubar 6), but this only explained half my feelings towards this new experience. To add on, this novel relates to the very popular song “Sign of the Times” by Harry Styles. The song describes different events that happen with the coming of age, and how they make everyone experiencing them feel. In the novel, Scott shares his feelings about his new experiences just like the song
