On 21 September 1971, a boy by the name of David Phillip Vetter was born. He had an older sister called Katherine. He was conceived after his parents had lost his 7 month old brother to a genetic condition. David was born with severe combined immune deficiency, his parents were aware that there was a 50% chance that he would be born with this disease and at the time they believed he would receive a bone marrow transplant from his sister not knowing that she would not be a match.
