Children need the influence of their biological parents. Fathers tend to abate derelict and anti-social behaviors in boys and coital endeavors in girls. According to a recent study on girls with absent fathers, girls who grew up in an intact family were much less likely to experience early puberty and teen pregnancy than girls who were raised away from their biological father. This study, coupled with David Popenoe's work, proposed that fathers give an example to girls for what to look for in a husband and provide them with the confidence to refuse the sexual requests of their boyfriends.
