Segregation and discrimination have been a problem for many years. There have been many people fighting to end this ignorance. There have been many steps done to try and achieving the fairness they deserve. Many feared being beaten, or killed from whites making there own justice. The Civil Rights movement were one of the many steps to improving these conditions. There goal was grabbing the attention of the federal government by non violent events such as sit-in, marches, and boycotts. Many African Americans took part in sit ins, they were organized to enter a segregated restaurant and ask for a cup of coffee. They knew that they would be rejected and the whites in the restaurant would usually take matter into their own hands instead of leaving it to the police to serve justice. Anne Moody who acted in a sit in describes how the waitress almost ran to the back because she knew that a mob would break out. (Doc 4) Many criticized Martin for this. He got many letters from different people, but the one which shocked him was ones from the clergyman asking him to wait.
