Marquart starts off by using imagery to give a sense of calming and relaxing reaction. She tells the audience that not many people like the upper Midwest. By doing so, she gives off descriptive diction on how innocent her hometown is, North Dakota, and how she would want to protect it. She gives a descriptive paragraph to show how that North Dakota is not a very lonely place and how people should not judge it by the looks, but by looking for the inter greatness.
