Decision-Making Process Paper

The process of making decisions can be broken down into various stages. These stages allow the decision maker to follow guidelines in making a sound decision. I can recall a big decision that I had to make in regards to transitioning our base of field operations to a separate city from where our corporate office was held. The process that I followed was a basic approach to making a business decision that best suited the business and would put the company in a position to maximize earning potential.

I first identified the problem with running auto transport trucks out of a city where there wasn’t an abundance of loads to book from with even a smaller market for qualified auto transport drivers to operate our trucks. The company had taken part in a temporary contract shuttling vehicles out of Detroit where there was an overabundance of vehicles in need of transporting. I had previously identified another city, Chicago that was a healthy candidate to run the trucks out of. Both cities were within 3 to 5 hours of our corporate office in Indianapolis and had a significantly higher volume of loads to book from.

I had to look at both cities and plan out how and where we could set up a terminal at. I identified locations and contacts in both metro areas and was prepared to make a move. The first city that I was leaning toward was Chicago. However when the shuttles that we were working on became semi-permanent the decision became clear. I chose Detroit over Chicago and started the process of moving the trucks to Detroit. We set up a storage facility and mapped out the various shops and other businesses that we would do business with in the area.

After getting the trucks up and running out of Detroit I periodically traveled to Detroit to

...Decision-Making Process Paper Management Theory and Practice, MGT/230 September 30, 2013 Decision-Making Process Paper Every day, individuals are faced with some of the hardest decision making processes. Over the years, Marvenia have worked for several companies that have provided her family with a roof over their heads and several other things to be grateful for. In 2009, she was faced with an opportunity to take a position with another company that offered her a better pay increase, lifelong benefits including 401k, paid vacation time, holiday pay, pension and much more. On her current job at the time, she was working part -time making minimum wage with no benefits. This paper will speak about a job changing decision Marvenia had to make to improve herself as well as her family. The Process The first step she had to make was to identify the problem. The problem was that the company whom she was currently working for was not paying enough money to provide for her children. Second, her current job only offered benefits to the full-time employees and she was only a part-time employee who made her ineligible for company benefits. The second and third step did not meet any of her needs at the time, so she went to the fourth step. The fourth step was to make a final decision. So she decided to go along with the job opportunity that was best fit for her and her children. She chose to work for the company who provided a better living opportunity as well as benefits needed...

Decision Making Process Paper

...Decision Making Process Paper A huge decision I had to make in my life was the decision to buy another home and move to the state of Washington. I had previously purchased a home in the state of Oregon and was underwater so to speak on it. For me, the uncertainty and risk were the biggest decisions for me to face. The housing market was in a downward spiral and had my own decision making process to go through. Does homeownership, with its ongoing responsibilities, suit your lifestyle? According to "Realtor.com" (2012), you are ready to buy a home if you have a steady income that can be documented, have saved enough money for a down payment, will be able to pay other bills while keeping your mortgage payments current and are prepared to keep the home for at least five years” (para. 7). I struggled to decide if these were things I would be able to do, and the decision making process for me was answering each of these questions carefully and thoughtfully. The decision making process can be different depending on how you approach it. In the course textbook, the decision making process involves six steps; Identifying and diagnosing the problem, generating alternative solutions, evaluating alternatives, making the choice, implementing the decision, and evaluating the decision. (Bateman & Snell, 2011). If I was to use this process to make a decision to buy a house, I would identify that the problem was deciding whether to make the life altering decision to buy a house. I would determine...

When I first went to buy the car which was the major decision I had to determine the necessity of the car in my life, Whether or not financially I could manage a car payment and if I was willing to commit that much time to making the payments. Necessity of the Big Decision My first step as a consumer at 21 years old was determining how important a car was in my life and at the time it definitely was I was in college and participating in collegiate sports, volunteer coached high school track and field, attending college, and managing a social life it was very important in my future success that I have a reliable vehicle to get me to and from. The book talks about lack of structue decisions and uncertainty and risk and after reading them I somewhat implement some of the procedural steps without even knowing it. ...Decision – Making Process Paper Shateasha Buckner MGT/230 March 17, 2015 Leslie Hall - Facilitator Decision-Making Process Paper Decision-making for some may be quick and not critically thought through. For me however, I prefer to make my decisions by using a thought process and experiences. Things were becoming overwhelming and stressful at my workplace. This caused my confidence level to dwindle. I began asking myself questions. Is it time for a change? Do I see myself here in the next 2-3 years? Is this affecting my work ethic as a manager? What will be my overall choice for my future? Throughout this essay I will identify the problem by using the decision-making process, view my similarities with those from the text, and determine my decision based on steps from the text. The Problem and Why My current position consists of managing people and ensuring a multi-million dollar asset performs at its best. By doing so, we as a team must keep up with the constant change in occupancy, income, and renewals. These three things keep the asset flowing, which can be an issue at times; especially when having a demanding boss who seems to care less when your asset is in need. This trickles down to my staff and then on to the residents. As the text mentions, “a manager realizes some discrepancy between the current state (the way things are) and a desired state (the way things ought to be)”(Bateman & Snell, 2009, p. 89). As manager of this asset, I am aware...

...Decision-Making Process Paper I have recently made a decision to move to a different state. I will discuss the steps in my decision making process. The decision making process will be compared to the process obtained in class text. By using the steps in the text my outcome could have a different conclusion. I was having trouble find employment while as residing in New Mexico after a huge layoff from work. After months of searching for full time employment, I starting contemplating a decision to move my family to Spring Illinois. The choice to move was a huge decision to make. My wife would have to leave her state job along with my kids having to start a new school. So I made a list of pros and cons of making the move. I then began making a budget to see if the move was feasible financially. The pros outweigh the cons and I begin putting my decision into motion. After a few months of planning my move was complete. My decision making process was similar to what the text offered. In the text the first step is to identify the problem (Bateman, Snell, 2011). I did this by noticing that employment in new Mexico was not available The next step is generating alternatives (Bateman, Snell, 2011). I did this by deciding to move to Springfield Illinois. The third step was to evaluate the alternative, I did this by writing out the pros and cons of my decision I then followed the fourth step in making my choice, by deciding to move. The fifth steps includes implementation (Bateman, Snell...

...Decision Making Process Paper Your Name Date MGT230 Instructors Name Decision Making Process Paper Upon completion of my Associates of Arts degree program in business I was unsure what I should do next. I wondered if I should continue my education with the hope of having a better chance at getting a good career one day, and if so, should I continue at the same college. I didn’t know it at the time, but I used the first step in the decision making process and recognized “that a problem exists and must be solved" (Bateman, T. S., & Snell, S. A.,2011). The problem was that I needed to figure out what exactly I wanted to do with my life in terms of a career, and should I continue in school and which school should I attend. I decided that my best chance would be to continue my education in hope of finding a better career. I spoke with my aunt who is an accountant, and she encouraged me to specify my area of business because more degrees in business would be too general. From there, I decided that it would be better to focus on accounting since accountants make decent money and everyone needs an accountant. After about a six month break from school during which I had more time to think about my next move, I began to research various other local universities to see if they had an accounting program and how much it would cost me including tuition, material, room and board, etc. I didn’t realize it, but I was “generating alternative solutions,” the second step...

...Making decisions about life-changing events can add stress to any individual, and ensuring the best decision was made requires adequate planning and evaluation of the possibilities. Each individual will make a vast array of decisions in their lives and spend large amounts of time considering different options, which makes the decision-making process so important. In the military there are many different scenarios that require appropriate attention for choices that will affect not only the units, but also the servicemen and women involved with those units. I have had to make many of these types of decisions that have affected both others and me, but this paper is going to cover a decision that was more personal than professional. The choice to re-enlist can be considered a professional benefit for retention purposes, but is mainly based on personal feelings and status. ...Decision Making Process Paper Tiffany Camphouse November 21, 2011 MGT 230 A time in my life that I had to make a personal decision was when I decided to move. I had a pretty good job, but the rest of my family was moving away, and I did not want to be the only one left there. I had been working at my job for just over a year, and had just recently found out that I was pregnant for the first time. My boyfriend and I had our own place, but neither one of us had a vehicle. With my family planning to move out of state I was forced to make a decision. I had to decide if I was going to move closer to my job, or quit my job and move closer to my boyfriend’s parents, or move back to the place that I was born and raised for most of my life. The first thing that I did when I found out that I was going to have to move was talk to my boyfriend. He said that he didn’t know what we should do, but he didn’t want to move to the town that was close to my job. He felt that the town was too small, and the fact that we did not know anyone there was the other reason. The next thing that we did was talk about who’s parents we were going to move with. I wanted to move with my parents, because I was seven months pregnant and wanted to be with my mom to have the baby. He was torn because he had never been more than a few hours away from his mom, but he thought it would be cool to see some place new. After about three weeks of discussing our options we came to an agreement on moving...

...Decision-Making Process MGT/230 Management Theory and Practice July 25, 2011 Sylvia Ramirez-Cahan Decision-Making Process For the past year I have been struggling with the decision of whether or not to continue my education. The factors that influenced my decision to pursue my Bachelors degree were the financial commitment, time, personal responsibilities, professional responsibilities, and the affect a Bachelors degree would have on my career. My decision process involved the following steps. First, I carefully reviewed my financial obligations, researched expected educational expenses, and researched options to finance my educational expenses. Next, I considered the time I would need to commitment to my courses, and examined my ability and readiness to prioritize my educational responsibilities with my personal and professional responsibilities. Last, I researched the benefits of a Bachelors degree and the potential affect it could have on my career. According to Bateman and Snell (2011), the decision-making process consists of the following stages: identify and diagnose the problem, generate alternative solutions, evaluate alternatives, make the choice, implement the decision, and evaluate the decision. ...Decision- Making Process Makesia Penny MGT 230 July 16, 2012 Millicent B. Lann Throughout life people will have to make many decisions. Some of these decisions will be easy, some will be difficult. Some decisions we make in life require little or no thought, but the more important decisions, life-changing decisions, require a lot of thought. For instance, we make decisions about what we wear every day, what we will have for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, what time we go to bed each night and what time are we going to get up in the morning. These decisions do not take a process to come to the conclusion of what we will do. We sometimes have to make decisions that can be life-changing decisions. These decisions will affect our lives in a big way. Some examples could be buying a new home, changing jobs, enrolling in school, or relocating to another state. For me, it was enrolling in school. I graduated high school in 1996. I did not attend college after high school like most children because I had a baby my senior year. My grandparents suggested that I go ahead to school but I refused because I did not want to leave my son. In 2004, I enrolled in our local Technical College. I attended school for a year before I was involved in an incident that almost claimed my life in May 2005. I did not go back to school after the incident because I had to take physical therapy and was dealing with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). When I could return to work I was on work restriction...

The intent was to obtain a post military civil service job and capitalize on years of on-the-job experience while in the military. The risks and uncertainty of leaving the military to embark on new career was challenging to say the least. The processes of applying for and obtaining post military employment were relatively simple to accomplish. The decision-making processes were exactly as outlined within the textbook and additionally previously made decisions would not be any different. Exploring the actions taken to separate from the military, employment application processes, and subsequent decision-making steps will give a better perspective on the journey toward a second career. One of the first steps was to set a separation date from the military and establish eligibility for future hiring within the civilian sector. The next step is fairly simple and began with building a resume, gathering military service documents, and submitting online to USA Jobs approximately 10 months prior to separation from the military. After submitting the documents travel through several layers of the human resources department within USA Jobs to validate proper eligibility and consideration for job placement. Approximately...

The steps I took were a lot like the five steps that follow the decision making process described in the textbook. First and foremost I identified and diagnosed the problem which in my case was an incomplete college degree. I wanted to find a school where I could apply without having my transcripts on hand due to an issue with a block on my record at my previous school Secondly, the next step of the process is to generate alternative solutions. Some solutions I’ve thought of is one, go to a junior college and see if I am able to take any courses there, til I pay back my previous university. Another option is finding another university that will transfer my courses without losing my previous credits. And sadly my last resort would be to quit school completely and work fulltime. These are all options that I would consider as...
