...Decisions in Paradise, Part 1 Rebecca Lewis MGT/350 July 2, 2011 Cheryl Boehm Decisions in Paradise, Part 1 Kava is a significant island country in the South Pacific. There is cultural diversity of Kava is as diverse as our company. There is an ethnic mix of indigenous South Pacific tribes, African, Spanish, French, Asian (primarily Chinese), and since World War II, a sizable amount of Americans. Kava religious diversity is just as mixed as its ethnic diversity. Roughly 50% of the population is indigenous and the remainder is divided between Christian, Buddhist, and Islamic. Kava receives most of its revenue from the selling and manufacturing of petroleum, coffee, cocoa, spices, sugar, bananas, fishing, natural gas, and tourism. With Kava’s lacks a large work pool-50% of the population is under the age of 15, health issues (HIV/Aids and high risk for avian flu), the apparent likelihood of a natural disaster occurring (tidal waves/tsunami, typhoons/hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, and earthquakes just to mention a few), and non-natural disasters (petroleum spills, fires, and terrorism) are destabilizing the island’s infrastructure. With WDW being a well-known hospitality organization that specializes in “creating the magic” for its guests is committing its resources to help Kava. With WDW helping Kava it will not only help WDW but it will also deliver high value to our shareholders as Kava’s resources are critical to the world’s sustainability. Before WDW can determine...

...Decisions in Paradise, Part I MGT/350 January 9, 2012 Kevin McPhee Kava is an important island country located in South Pacific. One disaster on top of another plagued the country. Kava needs help to get on the road of recovery. Alex, director of strategic planning, and I will represent The Hermitage at Cedarfield as we strive to help Kava recover, grow, and succeed. To do my part in this project in Kava, I will use my decision-making skills to assist Alex and me in making sound decisions to help the country get back on its feet. The first step I will take to find a solution for Kava’s problems is determining the issues that hinder Kava. Next, I will discuss what created the problems. Last, I will describe the environmental and organizational obstacles that will impact key stakeholders. When Alex and I put our heads together, Kava will be on its way to being the country it once was, paradise. Issues that Appear in Kava and their Formulation Upon arriving in Kava, I did not expect to see what I did. The disaster within the country was devastating. The country was a complete mess. I realized that Kava was in dire need of help and knew that the Hermitage at Cedarfield would do a great deal of good for the country. After touring most of the country and discussing the condition of the country with Alex, the importance of making our company present in this part of the world is clearly visible. ...Decisions in Paradise, Part I April Selby MGT350 08/30/2010 DONALD WLODARSKI Decisions in Paradise, Part I After visiting the country of Kava, located in the South Pacific it was very clear that our company could do a great deal of good. The island country is obviously struggling and after speaking with Alex, it is apparent to me why we are trying to make our organization known in this area. Kava, although a beautiful canvas, faces many struggles not only from an economic standpoint but also from things such as natural disasters and terrorist threats and attacks. Natural disasters such as tidal waves, hurricanes, typhoons, floods, fires, tornadoes, volcanoes, and earthquakes remain a concern for the entire population. To add to that, illnesses such as AIDS and avian flu are also an issue that is a part of everyday life on the island. The population of Kava is surprisingly unbalanced with over 50% being children under the age of 15. Although this may appear a huge issue to other companies, to ours this is an opportunity to reach out to the youth and help them grow and learn. All of these obstacles have lead my organization to make the decision to have a presence in Kava. Our company is currently planning to further expand its vast number of locations to include Kava. This move would allow us to build a new location which would carry products that are already a part of the economy in Kava. We will also bring in other products to further suffice the needs of the population...

...Decisions in Paradise, Part I Cheryl Banes MGT/350 December 5, 2011 Howard Kersey Decisions in Paradise Alex and I have been presented with a rather unique situation on a little island off the South Pacific Ocean, called Kava. Kava was once a beautiful, sprawling island that attracted numerous tourists because of its balmy weather and indigenous tribes. Recently Kava has seen its fair share of disasters that has plagued the island. Our mission is to turn these disasters into opportunities, by establishing integrity among the people, loyalty and selfless service within this tiny island. We will begin in our Phase I process by looking at the organizational planning and climate, how the human resources will function, and finally we will delve into the business ethics. Once we have gathered all pertinent information we will combine each into one neat bundle in preparation for Phase II. The government of Kava requested that Alex and I both come up with a plan that will help alleviate the diverse composition, beliefs, attitudes, and ideologies that has caused the melting pot to boil over. Organizational planning will encompass us to identify the immediate and long-term objectives, and formulating specific strategies to achieve them. Our enterprise has demonstrated that we can develop and manage a very effective, as well as highly efficient, organizational structure and process methods. The National Guard motto is “Be all that you can be”, we want to instill...

...University of Pheonix Decisions in Paradise Part I N/A MGT/350 December, 2011 Decisions in Paradise, Part I Good day, my name is Nik and I recently completed my degree in Economic Analysis. Within two weeks of finishing my degree, I landed a job with the Federal Government to perform economic analysis on various countries to determine the need for our governmental support. My first assignment with my new company requires me to travel to an island country of Kava in the South Pacific. I will travel to Kava and work with Alex who is our director of strategic planning. I have been told Alex is very experienced, very demanding and a very influential executive of the organization. Facts Upon arriving at Kava, I noticed the local area and the company to be at disarray. The organization had set up a make-shift office in a trailer. Alex held the position of our strategic planner and the office receptionist. I was briefed that the local populist consisted of over 50% under the age of 15 with an ethnic mix of indigenous South Pacific tribes, Asian (primarily Chinese), African, French, Spanish and a sizeable number of Americans. Local languages consist of numerous Indigenous, as well as English, Spanish, and French. The religions among the people are 50% Indigenous with the remainder closely divided between Christian, Buddhist, and Islamic.

...on an island located off the South Pacific, by the name of Kava. Many of these issues will be discussed further in this paper. Not only will these issues will be discussed, but I will be determining what kind of decisions that will be made in fixing these issues. Many people who visit this island may think Kava is a place that you would call paradise. A physical paradise surrounded by beautiful palm trees, people surfing and lounging around on the beach, enjoying a tropical breeze. Unfortunately for some people who try to vision this island as a beautiful place to take a vacation, it is however, not really a place in which one would hope to travel too. The majority of Kava’s population is over 50% of the people that live there are under the age of 15 years old. Kava is a disaster area due to the issues they are experiencing, such as, Tsunami, Hurricanes, Tornadoes, Floods, Fires, Volcanic eruptions, Earthquakes, HIV/AIDS, Petroleum spill, High risk for avian flu, and Terrorism (from within and outside the country). This is a country that is in serious need of some help in getting the country moving forward and on its way to recovery. In the decision-making process, there are a total of nine steps that we must follow in order to improve the issues being caused in Kava. The first step in the decision-making process is identifying the problem or the issue. As stated in the introduction, Kava faces the following issues: Tsunami, Hurricanes, Tornadoes, Floods, Fires, Volcanic eruptions...

...so the economy of Kava is supported by tourism and offshore investing. The company wants to have a greater presence in Kava. Chris Morales, the company’s founder, believes in do what is right, not for business reasons, but for ethical reasons. However, the company will only consider developing a greater presence in Kava if the opportunities are good for Kava and good for the company. A second reason the company is looking at developing a greater presence in Kava is that the government is interested in learning the company’s business model so government can use parts of the model to help the countries social needs. Before the company makes the decision to become a greater presence in Kava, the company’s management team will have to evaluate if the benefits are greater than the negatives. Also Alex and Chris have made it clear the company and government will both have to prosper from the decisions made. The decisions cannot benefit one party and not the other. The growth and larger presence has to be a win-win for the parties involved. Alex gave Nik the responsibility of putting a plan together on how the company can have a greater presence in Kava and how human resources, ethics, and organizational processes will play a role in meeting the company’s goal of have a greater presence in Kava. There are three key reasons that Nik can use when putting his analyze together for Alex. The first reason is the success the company has had developing, managing, and growing the...

...Decisions in Paradise Paper, Part I Regina Cobbs-Johnson MGT/350 08/16/2010 James Hudson Decisions in Paradise Paper, Part I Everyone in some part of life time imagine themselves visiting an island, which in your mind is like paradise. Most paradise islands have the white sandy beaches with the palm trees that sway softly as the light clean breeze flow through the air. Many would think of snorkeling, fishing, and swimming all day for relaxation. In the beginning I thought the Country of Kava in the South Pacific was just that island. But once I continued to read about the country my thought quickly changed. In this paper I will explain my real thoughts about the country Kava. I will examine some of the issues with the island. In order to expand the Department of Human Services in Kava I will need to identify the problems and create ideas for the problems that have been identified. Thoughts about Kava Kava may be in the South Pacific but the island, in my opinion, is far from paradise. Nothing was what I perceived it to be. No white sandy beach no anything. In fact everything was a mess including the perspective office that I am to work out of. I think the island is more of a disaster area. Every form of disaster takes place on this one little island I wonder how there is life here at all on this island. I must truly admit there is nothing that I can say that is actually nice about this island. Issues with Island Some issues that I have...

...Running Head: Decisions in Paradise Part II Decisions in Paradise Part II NAME MGT 350 January 23, 2012 Introduction Within the context of Decisions in Paradise I, I discussed some of the different obstacles that TEVA, USA is encountering while trying to enter the country of Kava, a South Pacific Island. I also shared different approaches that my company TEVA, USA can take to address the many challenges that the island presents. Any solution that I, or my partners, propose will have an effect on Kava and this should be taken into consideration when implementing our techniques. The process of assessing the available solutions will be explored within Decisions in Paradise II. The most difficult problem to overcome is that Kava is a hard island to inhabit because of the unavoidable issues the face with disasters and disease. In addition to the mess that the island is in, the office that TEVA occupies is also in havoc. They lack sufficient employees and the office in unorganized. After identifying the problems at hand, I have determined that the basic solutions would be; hire a new receptionist, clean up the office space, and implementing contingency plans for every natural disaster that may impact the land. This would include a safety plan, a cleaning plan, and a safe place for everyone to go when disasters do strike. Decision-making Technique Several influences have been identified to lead to the issues that are affecting Kava today. The main...
