...Shisheng Huang Dr. Logan English 300 online 25 June 2015 All We Need Is a Push Writing has never been an easy subject for me. Lt alone the fact that English was not my first language. Back in my old country, even writing in the language that I was growing up with was no so easy for me either. At the younger age, I could never understand, why would people take a simple idea and expand it into hundreds of or even thousands of word. To the younger me, it was just like telling a same idea to someone over and over again. As I grew older, now that I am looking back, I realize I was just being lazy. Like I was to everything else in my life: always try to find a simpler and faster solution to a problem. If there was anything my high school English teacher has taught me that I would remember for life, that is, just like pretty much everything else in life. To be able to write a good piece of paper, it will require a lot of hard work. Unlike the teachers from my old high school, my English teacher of the high school I was graduated from, Mr. Roger has a lot more experience dealing with ESL student. Because of the district that our school was in. There are a ton of students that came from many different country around the world, which gave our school more change to get more experience on dealing with different level student. Not only Mr. Roger’s balded head and face that full of beard draw student attention to him, but the way he teach class also get our attention easily. He always...

...George Zimmerman Shooting and Killing of Trayvon Martin George Zimmerman is the 28-year-old neighborhood watchman who shot and killed unarmed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Florida, a month ago. He has been keeping a low profile. He is in hiding after reportedly receiving several death threats and, for weeks, all the world saw of him was an unsmiling 2005 mug shot. As investigators and reporters try to piece together why the Floridian shot a black boy 10 years younger and dozens of pounds lighter, a fuzzy picture of Zimmerman is emerging. Here's what we know so far: George Michael Zimmerman was born in 1983, the third of four children of Robert and Gladys Zimmerman. Robert, a retired military man and magistrate judge, describes the family as multiracial, telling the Orlando Sentinel that "George is a Spanish-speaking minority with many black family members and friends." Gladys is of Peruvian descent. George grew up in Manassas, Va., where neighbors describe the Zimmermans as very religious — George was an altar boy and evening receptionist at the family's parish, All Saints Catholic Church. The Zimmerman children attended Catholic school through eighth grade, then public high school. The family moved to Florida about a decade ago. George married Shellie Nicole Dean, a cosmetologist, in 2007. For a living, at the time he shot Martin, Zimmerman was working as an underwriter at mortgage risk-management firm Digital Risk. He had also been working on an associates...

...employees; these differences include language, culture, customs, attitudes, opinions, and values. In addition, the article discusses the challenges that employees face when working in a country that they do not understand (Doke, 2014, para. 3). On the other hand, the U.S. and the U.K. both have English-speaking citizens and language barriers that create some significant communication issues and employees may often face disappointment and underachievement when trying to adjust to the new country (Doke, 2014, para. 4). In fact, the work, personal ambitions, individualism, efficiency, business meetings and communication differences between the two countries requires some great strategies that will help all employees grow within the organization. DeeDee Dokes states that it is critical for management to understand the differences in business cultures to help employees adjust in the foreign country; this can be done by conducting training sessions to prevent issues in the workplace later on (2014, para. 10). A recent survey conducted by Cendant Mobility states that 84% of organizations provide intercultural training to their employees while working in a foreign country; unfortunately less than 50% of employees obtain that training offered by the organization (Doke, 2014, para. 8). Intercultural training removes the culture shock employees have when transferring to a new country and can smooth business relations between the countries. It even makes the move easier, especially when it focuses...

...Welfare Drug Testing: What is the Real Cost? DeeDee Reece English Composition II Professor Renee Reynolds February 28, 2012 DeeDee Reece Professor Renee Reynolds English Composition II February 28, 2012 Abstract In July 2011, Florida passed a law which required applicants seeking aid under the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program to take a drug test. If they pass the test they get benefits; if they fail – nothing! The law was developed to save the state taxpayers money. It was enacted on a biased foundation - without funds the poor can’t support their drug habits! It was mandated without any regard for the consequences of doing so. The problem isn’t taking the test; it’s what it stands for! It crosses the constitutional, social, moral, and ethical boundaries that society deems acceptable. The negative aspects outweighed the good! The testing has been placed on hold while the “real costs” are addressed. Welfare Drug Testing: What is the Real Cost? Being poor once meant you lacked funds or the means to support yourself. Today the meaning has been changed to define a person’s character. Florida law suggests the definition of poor is synonymous with drug user. Eligibility for the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program now requires applicants to submit to drug testing to receive benefits. The problem isn’t with taking the test but the premise behind it. The law was enacted based on an...

...it into a reality. Instead of crushing our dreams, our parents let our imaginations run wild and encourage us to go for our dreams. As a kid, I always dreamed of becoming the best runner like Veronica Campbell-Brown. Veronica Campbell-Brown is a Jamaican Track and Field runner that runs the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash and 4 by 100 meter dash; she is was the first Jamaican athlete to claim an individual Olympic title in the women’s 200 meter dash. Not only has she run with some of the fastest women in the country, she has also run against some of the world’s most powerful role models for other track athletes. Some people who are currently running at the moment like: Shelly-Ann Frazier, Bianca Knight, Carmelita Jeter, Allyson Felix, DeeDee Trotter, Lolo Jones, and Sanya Richards-Ross, have all started off with a dream as young girls with a determined mindset. I will never forget the one race that made me want to start running track when I was a young child. I saw about twenty-two people on a concrete track, a basketball court holding six basketball goals, and it was just an unbelievable sight; there were not any bleachers for fans to sit and watch us run, but it was an exciting feeling because even though the majority of the people did not have anywhere to sit they made the track meet extremely fun. Track and Field started for me when I saw a flyer posted on a wall so I tried out for the team at an early age. Trying out for the team was very nerve racking; I did not know...

...Annotated Bbliography of Whitney Houston Ammons, Kevin, and Nancy Bacon. Good Girl, Bad Girl: An Insider's Biography of Whitney Houston. Secaucus, NJ: Carol Publ. Group, 1996. Print. This was an unauthorized autobiography of Whitney Houston by Kevin Ammons who observed Whitney Houston’s life while dating her publicist Regina Brown. He observed a glamorous woman who let success turn her into a very troubled woman. In the autobiography Ammons talked about how Whitney had a close friend by the name of Robyn Crawford and that her mother, Cissy Houston felt that it was “unnatural” for the two women to be so close. Ammons also mentions how upset Robyn would become when Whitney gained male attention. Robyn was upset when Bobby Brown sent Whitney four hundred roses, and at the 1991 Super Bowl where Whitney sung the national anthem and M.C. Hammer appeared, him and Whitney went off by themselves, talking and laughing. Ammons also includes in this autobiography that his girlfriend at the time stated to him that one of the condition in working for Whitney was not to bring up Robyn. These statements mentioned in Ammons autobiography tends to make the media and readers believe that Whitney Houston had lesbian affairs with Robyn Crawford, and this is what caused her to develop a drug problem that soon resulted in an early death. ...Steroids are one of the most controversial drugs known to the human race. These drugs are seemingly notorious for their ability to produce large amounts of muscle mass in an attempt to exploit ultimate power, performance, and dominance in a person. However, the negative effects of steroids tend to have a severe impact on the justification of the drug’s use in today’s society. When I say society, I am rather referring to a more predominant superior subculture, the professional athlete that can easily be held accountable for the cultivation and spread of steroids. This “high-class” group can denote the contrary of ethics; that is, revealing actions which tend to expose a sense of narcissistic personal qualities that hinder our beliefs of what is right and what is wrong. At one point or another, performance enhancing substances outspokenly seem to enter every professional athlete’s mind. The issue of steroids or any performance enhancing drugs in this matter has significantly heightened recently and seems to be a legitimate issue within professional sports. In an attempt to meet expectations and standards, reduce the pressures to perform, and alleviate public scrutiny, many professional athletes are left quivering in fear whether or not to take the two-faced drug that’s so readily adhered to by many. In my attempt to explore the mainstream issue of steroids in professional sports, I wish to focus on three imperative aspects that will help assist in the configuration...
