...North Korea, a country in eastern Asia, has many enemies around the globe for many reasons, including lack of accountability, increasing nuclear threat, anti-western lifestyle ideals and major lack of consideration for human rights. The human rights violations are vast and significant. The people, with correct sensibility, of this country wish to escape, yet are unable to obtain their wish of emigration. The citizens who wish to get away, but are caught, are subject to torture, “guilty by association” laws which threaten the defect’s family, imprisonment, and in some cases, death. In this act alone, three major human rights are violated e.g. freedom from torture, freedom of movement within and out of the county, and freedom of expression...

...North Korea. One of the most seclusive —yet one of the most controversial— countries in the world. Controlled by dictators from the Kim family since the end of the Korean War in 1953, the country is led today by Kim Jong-un with ruthless expectations. Notorious for its labor camps, draconian punishments, public executions, and a myriad of other human rights violations, the international community has called for increased sanctions and restrictive trade in efforts to curtail these crimes and stifle the regime. However, North Korea has easily bypassed this by deploying a tactic of their own: sending forced laborers abroad to harvest cold currency for the dictatorship. Furthermore, in the past five years, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s...

...Women’s Rights in the Hermit Kingdom Both before and after its division, North Korea has been shrouded in mystery, especially in social terms. Today, there is relatively little known about how its citizens lead their daily lives, and what is known is based mainly upon speculation. However, due to the high ratio of defectors, it is possible to see beyond propaganda and realize the treatment of those on the inside. It is a widely understood fact that women and men both face many of the same hardships in such a restrictive state, but the troubles are nonetheless very different. The female demographic of this nation faces, in spite of the state’s pleas for other countries to understand their breed of equality, more restriction and segregation in menial tasks, less influence on politics and family life, fewer chances for high-ranking jobs, and higher chances to be sold or smuggled into human-trafficking organizations. Women in...

...and private installations including websites, personal computers, private mailing addresses, various private and public networks and highly sophisticated instruments that are controlled through the use of internet. Web attacks will be launched by an individual or a group of people who are highly knowledgeable about the use of internet and the online security system. In some cases web attacks are launched simply to fulfill petty interests such as to hack into someone’s personal information, credit card information etc. While in some cases more serious agendas work as major catalysts that leads to more sophisticated web attacks which may take place in a domestic or even international level. For instance, in several occasions, Chinese and North Korean hackers were accused of hacking into U.S. government websites to steal sensitive information. And thus the concept of “cyber war” made its debut. The emergence of World Wide Web has started a revolution throughout the globe as far as information technology (IT) is taken under consideration. The use of internet has left significant impact on our personal, social, national and global orientation. As a part of the process, the United States government has also taken steps to make a strong presence in the online world through the launch of various government websites. These government websites work as the representatives of the U.S. government in the online world to millions of domestic and international users. In the United States...

The protagonist, Reardon, alongside four other operatives including a female helicopter pilot, is hired by the CIA, who is in collaboration with the DOD and NSA, to embark on a special mission. Well prepared, Reardon, his comrade, Pax, and other members of the squad enter the North Korean soil to extract the daughter and granddaughters of Kim Hyun-hee, the North Korean ambassador to China, who knows much about the Chinese-Korean relationship and the North Korea’s nuke program. Already set to defect, Kim travels to Belgium to attend an international symposium, and as planned, while he is still there, his family will be pulled out of the re-education camp in Kaechon, and seemingly he will be abducted and then taken to the American embassy in Brussels. In addition, in this operation, the team has been instructed to sink the Pueblo, a former American spy ship that was captured by North Korea....

...Anarchy complicates interstate interaction because there is no enforcement and no rules, unless there is an international institution. In basic terms anarchy is where there is no authority or sovereign above the states. There can be institutions to help states cooperate, but ultimately states may do what they want. When states have free roam is hard to get them to cooperate. In the cooperation problem we have two types of cooperation: coordination and collaboration. Coordination is where states make the same choices and have no incentive to defect, this is the easier of the two. Collaboration is where states work together to make choices, but still have incentives to defect. In terms of a cooperation problem modeling the anarchy of interstate...

...1 INTRODUCTION The research on the academic field of international business (IB) is a bit latter-day. Starting with the pioneering works of Dunning (1958) and Vernon (1965) on firm internationalization, the field has grown momentously churning out some time-tested theories. Unlike its counterpart business disciplines which focus on narrow subject areas, IB research is broader focused and draws on multidiscipline approaches (Aggarwal 2004) to explain the reasons why businesses go international. It has been argued by Wang et al. (2008) that a firm’s internationalization process being more sophisticated calls for a multiple approach to be able to understand its nuances, the aim of this report is to use at most seven IB theoretical approaches to analyze the internationalization of Hyundai Motors Corporation (hereafter HMC). The analysis will seek to test the basic assumptions and concepts of the various theories, identify and question basic deviations of the theories from the internationalization of HMC and search for answers as to the reasons for the deviation. This report begins with a brief historical account of HMC’s evolution, internationalization and current position in the global automobile industry. A brief review of the internationalization theories which are used in this analysis is undertaken. A thorough analysis of various phases of HMC’s internationalization using the theories (where applicable) then follows. A conclusion is drawn whether HMC’s global operations fit...

There is talk of region-wide FTAs, and there are east-Asian initiatives on financial and monetary cooperation. But grand visions for Asian regional blocs are not achievable. Regional economic integration is most developed in east Asia, but only because of manufacturing supply chains linked to global markets. South Asia is the most malintegrated region in the world. And east and south Asia are much less integrated in finance than they are in trade and FDI – due to highly restrictive national policies governing financial markets. Asia’s existing FTAs are “trade light”. They are largely limited to tariff cuts, but have barely tackled non-tariff regulatory barriers in goods, services and investment, and are bedevilled by complex rules of origin requirements. An APEC FTA initiative has gone nowhere – entirely predictable given such a large, heterogeneous grouping. An east-Asian or a pan-Asian FTA, by discriminating against third countries, would compromise regional production networks linked to global supply chains. Moreover, huge economic...
