Defining Marketing
In the business world marketing is vital to the success of a business’s endeavor of a new product or line of products, and how well the products do rely primarily on the marketing techniques used by the marketing team. So what is the definition of marketing? Well my definition of marketing derives from my father’s advice to me when I was a young lad, my father once said to me “son the product is not the key to the success of business, it’s the way business’s interprets the product and how they connect it to the people whom they want to sell it to.” When my father spoke about his experience in the business world my mind would race with thoughts and ideas of someday being able to run my own business, and how I would incorporate my father’s ideas and knowledge about it.
Furthermore, when my father stressed the importance of communication between producers, and consumers, what he was essentially saying was that marketing makes a world of difference in the success of business’s and how they go about doing business. According to Investopedia.com, the definition of marketing is “the activities of a company associated with buying and selling a product or service. It includes advertising, selling and delivering products to people. People who work in marketing departments of companies try to get the attention of target audiences by using slogans, packaging design, celebrity endorsements and general media exposure. The four 'Ps' of marketing are product, place, price and promotion”.
Moreover, although my father’s definition to me wasn’t as definitive or detailed as the definition of Investopedia.com, his words on the definition of marketing practically meant the same. Another great definition of the word provided by the American Marketing Association
