Marketing is a part of everyone’s daily lives. We see it in the billboards on the side of the road, in TV commercials, at the grocery store, and even within our jobs. I define marketing as a company’s ability to successfully persuade a person to purchase their product or service. According to Perreault, Cannon, and McCarthy (2009) marketing is “the performance of activities that seek to accomplish an organization’s objectives by anticipating customer or client needs and directing a flow of need-satisfying goods and services from producer to customer or client.” Finally, according to the American Marketing Association, “marketing is the activity, set of insitutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large” (2007). Marketing is a very necessary tool for every organization to help them grow in market shares and brand familiarization. One of the most important benefits of a successful marketing campaign is the revenue that is generated from the sales of products and services. Coca-Cola’s marketing department has greatly influenced American culture when the images of Santa Claus first appeared on the classic red cans in the 1930s. The image of St. Nick still continues to appear on the cans every winter (Coca-Cola, 2011). In 1971, Coca-Cola launched a song titled “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing” that quickly became a world wide hit. The classic Coca-Cola bottle has a very distinctive design that many people are able to recognize without its label. The most current marketing campaign for Coca-Cola is the Coca-Cola Arctic Home campaign. This campaign raises the awareness of the vanishing home for polar bears. Coca-Cola gives consumers the opportunity to donate through them to the World Wildlife Fund and have the company match
