Definition Of Christmas

Christmas is a joyful time filled with family, love, hope, kindness, and presents. That description of Christmas may be accurate, but that is leaving out the true reason for the season. Now, people find the only purpose for Christmas is to receive gifts, give gifts, spend time with family, etc. but that is not why we celebrate. December 25 is our savior, Jesus Christ’s birthday. Catholic or not, people need to acknowledge that it is a faith-based holiday and that there is no reason to be “offended”.

I wish Christmas would be more based on the religious base behind it instead of the snowmen, reindeer, toys, and elves that distract us. People to feel offended that the holiday is based on the birth of our savior but they need to realize

...In the novel, A Christmas Carol, Ebenezer Scrooge is a rude, grumpy, mean old man. He thinks Christmas is a humbug and he doesn’t want to get in the Christmas spirit because he treasures his money and doesn’t want to spend one bit of it. Scrooge will be visited by three spirits throughout the book. The spirits will try to teach him a lesson and that he needs to change his ways before it is too late. In A Christmas Carol, the author Charles Dickens, shows that one’s business in life is helping others and being charitable through Scrooge’s experiences with the three ghosts. In Stave I, Scrooge thinks the definition of man’s “business” is money. This impacted Scrooge because he has become greedy and uncharitable. Scrooge does not care about...

Free Will

...Prof. Kellenberger Phil 310 Free Will When grumpy old Scrooge of the famous movie A Christmas Carol went home on Christmas eve, he had no idea what awaited him. He experienced a night of anguish and terror after three ghosts visit him. Scrooge was a grumpy mean-spirited man after the death of his sister Fan. Just to prepare him for his “life” in death, his dead partner and friend Marley, who facilitates the entire nightmare, shows him the lost lonely spirits who were mean-spirited in their earthly lives. The first ghost who visited him that night was “the ghost of Christmas past”. This ghost serves to remind him how others had been kind to him during past Christmases in his youth and how people in his past embodied the Christmas spirit. This ghost served to instill guilt and remorse. Next, “the ghost of Christmas present” appears to Scrooge and shows him how everyone is enjoying Christmas and spreading the Christmas spirit around town. It also shows how his servant Bob, despite his meager earnings enjoys Christmas with his family. It also shows Scrooge his nephew Fred enjoying Christmas with his family. The two families only show downcast moods when discussing Scrooge. However, Fred maintains hope that his uncle Scrooge can change. After that, the most dreary “ghost of Christmas yet to come” appears to Scrooge. He shows Scrooge how Bob’s son death saddens everyone and leaves them feeling a sense of loss. He then shows him a rich dead man who nobody misses and some...

Scrooge In A Christmas Carol

...The definition of a hero to is anyone that has a lot of bravery to stand up not just for himself but, thinks less about himself and more about others. I don’t think that Scrooge from A Christmas Carol fits the definition of hero to me. Scrooge is a greedy, selfish, and unthankful man. Here are some of the reasons why I don’t think Scrooge meets up to the meaning of a hero. “It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends” ~ J.K. Rowling. This quote explains most of what my definition of a hero is. It explains that a hero needs bravery to stick up not just for himself, but even more, bravery to stick up for others. Scrooge does show bravery but, mostly the bravery is only to himself. For example, when Scrooge put the candle top the first spirit because he didn’t want to see the past anymore. That shows Scrooge being brave only toward himself, but not toward others. The Man In The Water is a good example of why Scrooge is not a hero. For example, The Man In The Water was always polite and generous to the others that survived the plane crash. He would always pass on the lifeline and floating ring on to the next person. On the other hand, Scrooge will never do anything nice for...

This article talks about how people in the town of Middletown would give gifts. The town had gift giving for Christmas set up in many different ways. Some ways the town would do it were “Participants in this gift system should give (individually or jointly) at least one Christmas gift every year to their mothers, fathers, sons, daughters; to the current spouses of these persons; and to their own spouses” (Caplow 1315). The article also talks about Christmas lights, decorations, the tree rule, the wrapping rule, the gathering rule, the dinner rule, the gift selection rule, and the scaling rule. Caplows article goes more in-depth about how each family is supposed to honor Christmas. The tree rule, for example, says “of the forty-five married respondents with children under eighteen only two of families did not have trees” (Caplow 1308).The wrapping rule says that “a subsidiary rule requires that the wrapping be appropriate, that is, emblematic and another subsidiary rule says that wrapped gifts are appropriately displayed as a set but that unwrapped gifts should not be so displayed” (Caplow 1310). There were many different rules for many situations. For this paper I decided to write about my experience...

The prayer tells Christians how to pray and what to pray for. It is known as the most influential prayer in Christianity. The Christians most sacred book is the Holy Bible which is composed of an old and New Testament. Coca Cola Market Segmentation

...According to the Economic Times “Segmentation allows a seller to closely tailor his product to the needs, desires, uses and paying ability of customers. It allows sellers to concentrate on their resources, money, time and effort on a profitable market, which will grow in numbers, usage and value.” The Coca Cola Company, one of the global leading brands, targets all markets using a mass marketing technique which falls under the category of undifferentiated marketing. Whilst there may be no single way to segment any market, firms need to consider various segmentation variables in order to gain a better perspective of the market structure and thus the best way to corner the market. Coca Cola segments its products and targets its customers in the following ways; Geographical :- International – The company uses Cane sugar in countries such as Mexico and the Caribbean and High Fructose Corn syrup in the USA. By using cheaper raw materials which are more readily available in certain international markets they are able to maintain a standard product with an affordable price. Family and Social Norms Role in Moral Development

...Family and Social Norms Role in Moral Development In today’s generation, cultural legacies and family traditions are the footprints to a person's identity and history. These footprints give us insight into not only our past but a glimpse of our futures. Traditions are a great contribution to an individual’s identity and help to define what generation they come from and who they are. One importance of a tradition is that an individual can take their experiences and memoirs with them throughout their lifetime and pass them along for future generations to share. In my generation, there are two traditions that are the most memorable times. Diwali and Christmas. In Trinidad Tobago, the Christmas traditions in particular go outside the traditional Christmas celebration. Every Trinidadian and Tobagonian passes these traditions down to every generation of all cultures. Marketing Final Exam

...12/9/14 Marketing Final Exam Question 2- When it comes to McDonald’s supply chain, the main focus is bringing food from cow to plate. This is a short way of saying that the company wants to know every detail about how their ingredients are brought into the restaurants. McDonald’s has such a great relationship with their suppliers that they trust. McDonald’s also tries not to completely knock out a supplier’s entire crop and make it so they cannot work with them again. The company always tries to gain a lasting relationship with all of their suppliers, this is a great thing for the farmers and is also a positive for farmers to keep these long lasting relationships. The relationships between McDonald’s and their suppliers are key to their success. Another interesting aspect of McDonald’s supply chain is how they decided what menu items are available. For example, over the summer, McDonald’s offered Blueberry Banana Nut Oatmeal as a breakfast choice; however, the oatmeal has been in the works for a long time. Before it could hit the nationwide menu, though, McDonald’s needed to find enough suppliers to grow the blueberries that they would use in restaurants. Since McDonald’s is such a large market, finding some of the fresh ingredients can become a problem. For example, if McDonald’s wanted to create a Pineapple Salad, they would not be able to because the pineapple supply in the world is not large enough to supply all of McDonald’s restaurants. McDonald’s fully understands...

God Argument

...One does not need a God to be a good person ITT Technical Institute EN 1420 Jennifer Cordelier July 30, 2013 One does not need a god to be a good person Throughout time the question of “does God exist?” has always been around. In the dark ages one would be cast out for doubting the all great and powerful. The religious community maintains that, “God and organized religion serve as a moral compass for society”(Buckley 2008). On the other hand atheists (someone who does not believe there is a God) maintain the belief that one does not need a God for guidance or fear of persecution to maintain a moral lifestyle. Religion is blasted into the face of all Americans daily with holidays such as Christmas and Easter. One may choose not to participate in these holidays but most people do regardless of faith. The pledge of allegiance is recited in schools without any question of what religion or denomination someone is. People can raise their children the way they like thanks to the first amendment and religion in the home is not necessary to the beneficial upbringing of a child. You do not need a God to be a good person. There are many Religions in the world with many different Gods. The Hindu believe in karma, the belief that what you do to others will come back to you. That is a great start but that is only because if you are generally a bad person (religious or not) you will have consequences to your actions. Therefore Karma states and action of doing wrong will bring you...

Child Rea

...American vs. Chinese Child Rearing Krystle Hawkins July 13, 2014 ANT 101 Introductions to Cultural Anthropology Christopher Deere In different cultures, there are different styles of child rearing practices. “Child rearing practice is the process of promoting and supporting the philosophy, emotional, social, and intellectual development along with the educational experiences of a child from infancy to adulthood. Parenting refers to the aspects of raising a child aside from the biological relationship” (Webster, n.d.) Parenting is rooted in not only where the child grows up and lives in but also it has a lot to do with the child’s childhood experiences. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention cultures can have a Hugh affect on the practices and parenting styles. For example, culture that both parents that share parenting responsibilities and work full time are really different from a culture that has a stern disciplinarian father in which he is the breadwinner of the family will actually have different types of affects on child- rearing practices. Child rearing is broken down into four categories, which are Behavioral Expectations, Affection, Education and Physical Punishment. In this paper, I will be comparing Chinese and American child- rearing. I find after researching the both of them, they are quite different in a lot of ways. Chinese child rearing philosophy are to have a very organized system where the government take on the responsibility of...

3 Stories About Coming of Age

...The definition of coming of age is the attainment of maturity. In these three stories “To Every Thing There Is A Season” by Alistair MacLeod, “The Sunrise on the Veld,” by Doris Lessing, and “Stones,” by Sandre Birdsell, all of the same theme “Coming of Age.” They all go through hardship, pain, and loss. In each of these stories the protagonist realizes reality in three different ways: by facing death, by watching one closest to them get hurt or made a fool, and by realizing his or hers surroundings. Firstly in the story “Sunrise on the Veld,” by Doris Lessing the main character notices the real world by seeing death in a harsh way. In this story their was a boy who lived in South Africa who had just turned 15 years old. In the boys mind he had believed that he could be king of the Universe. ...am is being Catholic. I’ve attended Catholic school for seventeen years, doing so has truly shaped me into the person I am today. Being Catholic has not only taught me so many things about my faith, but it has given me life lessons that i’ll never forget. A part of my Catholic religion is following the Ten Commandments along with attending Mass every sunday and all Holy holidays. One major aspect and an example of my Catholic culture is celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ on a holiday called Christmas that takes place on December twenty-fifth every year. This holiday is celebrated differently or even not at all in other religions. As a Catholic I celebrate this holiday by decorating and putting a “christmas tree” in my house, attending Mass, and celebrating with family members. A christmas tree, also known as an evergreen tree, is used because it is a tree that does not lose it’s leaves in the fall or winter, it symbolizes that Jesus’ spiritual life never dies. I believe the Christmas holiday is a great...
