...Lynn Breedlove ENG 1101 4 October 2013 Success In this nation we have a concept called the “American Dream” that everyone strives for. It suggests that if you work hard, you can eventually earn a lot of money and do as you wish. Everyone typically wants to purchase an extravagant house, luxurious cars, designer clothes, and a high paying job that will make them financially stable. These kinds of people measure success on his or her material possessions and there monetary value. True success has nothing to do with material possessions, but comes from a deeper place that is much more substantial than money. When I was younger my father and I would take long rides on his truck every weekend. On these long drives we traveled from state to state and would have many in-depth conversations on success. One time in particular, I remember we were driving along the highway and I saw a 2003 Cadillac Escalade. When I was younger this was my favorite vehicle and I told my Father when I got older I was going to purchase one. My father told me that in order for me to purchase one of them when I got older I would have to be successful. So, I asked, “What does that mean?” He replied with, “You have to go to college and work hard and get a good job.” Looking back at the conversation, my father related success with money as many people do. I thought it was funny that his idea of success did not correlate with my thought of the word. I always thought success had to do with how you thought of yourself...

...Success. It's something everyone seems to want and many strive for. It causes many people to revolve their lives around it, striving and scrambling to get there. But what is it really? Many may wonder “Is it a point in life? A destination? A mindset? How do you get there?”. Truthfully, success looks different for different people but typically, success is about achieving something you want to achieve. To me, success is setting a goal, following it, and having positive growth occur. Success is about setting goals and following them, and having the right mindset to get to there through the journey; which is what really matters. We all have goals. Whether we know it or not, we have all wanted something that we wanted to achieve, whether it was...

...I think that success can be defined in many different ways. In my eyes the definition of success is a family big or small. First, I think a family is always very successful no matter what life hands us. Second, one person that I believe to be successful is my fantastic father, Paul. Last, I also think my awesome mother, Lonetta, is successful. There for, we can define success in all kinds of different, crazy, and wonderful ways. As a matter of fact, success can be determined by any type of family no matter how big or small. We can fight and argue, but we will always love one another. We should always keep each other’s secrets, no matter what they are or whose they are, but sometimes...

...In this modern world, everyone wants to be successful. From the poor to the rich, everyone seeks success in the name of improving their lives and those of the ones they love. Despite the constant chasing everyone does for success, it is quite hard for people to clearly define and measure “success”. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary alone states three different definitions for the word, the first is “the fact of getting or achieving wealth, respect and fame”, the second is “the correct or desired result of an attempt”, and the third definition being “someone or something that is successful: a person or thing that succeeds”. From this, we can garner the information that success is indeed difficult to precisely measure and put into simple terms. However, I personally think that success can generally be measured by your financial wealth....

...Success Success can have a billion and one definitions, all depending on the person defining it. Therefore, making the search for success a difficult journey. For some individuals it only means fame and money while for others it is something more personal. For me success is a balance of both the materialistic and the spiritual. My idea of success is having the financial freedom to maintain my family, accept and love myself, and also being an active member of my future community. Regardless of the definition people may have on success, it can only be reached through certain qualities that not every individual possesses. To reach success one must have patience. We all heard of the famous sang “patience is key” yet we fail to apply it to our problematic situations. Without patience we soon give up and move along the path of life in search for something else that will take less time. Nothing that...

...Many people have a skewed definition of success. They think that success means being better than everyone else or proving yourself to the world. These people are misled, because success is much easier to achieve than that, if you truly want it. Success means being the best that you can be. Because success is very important and people need to know what success really means, I will use one quote to explain success. Of all of the quotes I’ve heard about success, the one that describes success the best is one by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “If you can’t fly, then run; if you can’t run, then walk; if you can’t walk, then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.” Dr. King wasn’t rich or world-famous. He had a dream, and he did...

...As a child, we were always told that we had to get good grades so we could grow up and be successful. Everyone has a different say about what success means. Most people think that in order to be successful, they have to make a lot of money and gain social praise. For other people, like me, success is made by how you feel. You feel success when you feel accomplished and happy about the task you just completed. Success is determined by you. A lot of people have long term goals. A long term goal is something that takes some work to accomplish. It also usually is a process that takes time and multiple steps to accomplish. These type of people choose making money as their success. College is the first step to their money-making goals. College is...

...Definition of Success Throughout Life In the Meriam Webster dictionary, success is defined as a favorable or desired outcome (Success). Despite this, success’s perceived meaning is accomplishing one’s goals or making one’s dreams a reality. It is important to note that one’s personal definition of success can determine one’s maturity and ideals. However, on a personal level success is tricky to define as it changes through one’s life. Another bump in defining success is that it is different for every individual. It largely depends on the circumstances of one’s upbringing as well. For a child, success is generally small scale and achievable in a single day. One example is their ability to convince their parents to buy them toys. Friendship is also a big way they define success. How much they learn in elementary and preschool is how they might define success as well. Throughout a child’s early life, this small view of success is largely uniform and does not expand until they enter high school. Success’s definition changes and starts to vary from person to person for the first time when they enter high school. For the scholarly, academics determine whether they are a success. Others, namely the athletes, define success as how well they do in sports. Finally, there are the nerdy who define success, as having more...

...What is success? People generally define it as a financial status; you do well in college, find a job and make a lot of money. I believe success doesn't value the amount of money, rather it values the amount of effort you put into attaining what you want and showing/spreading happiness. Money is redundant in success. You can be a person living in the streets and still successful. In order to be successful, you have to be devoted. Some people think success is just given to random people. This is a lie. People work up to success, it's not something you can just get out of the blue. There will be many failures, and that is okay. It is about being able to learn from them and climb the mountain with more knowledge. Another characteristic...

...What does success mean to you? A dictionary defines success as the accomplishment of an aim or purpose, but is this accurate for everyone? Most people would tell you that being successful is being looked up to or by doing better than others. At what point do you consider yourself to be successful or not? Personally I believe that being successful is doing what you want with your life and should only be defined by yourself, not others. For example the only person that I think should consider my life successful or not is me. Margaret Mead defined success as a, “…a source of confusion. …We are taught to celebrate and admire the one who gets the highest grades, the one voted most attractive, or most likely to succeed.” (Mead The Egalitarian Error)...

..."A Clear definition of your business' vison is critical to your success" As --------- pointed out int the discussuon board in Unit 2 Money (DB) "purchasing a franchise is a very good strategy if you are able to secure the capital for investment." As the business plan and strategies are already in place. Now the question is why would the franchise business owner be selling his shop? In this case Dr. Heywood mentioned a Carvel Icecream Shop in her area that closed due to continued construction that made it unpleasent for the customers to visit the Carvel Shop. As a result the business was unable to previal and had to close up shop and offer the franchise for sale. The secret may be found in finding the right balance of the four competencies, and this could be the difference between success and failure for a business that finds its self trying to endure continued construction in their area - and at a time of recession. I found an interesting article from the Central Penn Business Journal, titled "A Clear definition of your business' vison is critical to your success" from March 20th 2009. In the article the author Richard Randall goes to offer four key factors that will help the new busines owner find the right balance to help ensure success whether it's a franchise or a new business. ...

...to talk about what everyone wants: success and happiness. No, I'm not trying to give you a philosophy lesson. I'm here to talk about two very simple things. That's it. Just two simple things. Success and the real meaning of happiness. Now of course, everybody wants to be successful. So, what is real success? Ralph Waldo Emerson said his definition of success was to laugh often and to win the respect of intelligent people. A lot of students say that going into a good university is success. Some people say getting into a high position in society is success. What is your definition of success? Becoming a pro gamer? Becoming a CEO of a famous company? Some may be the same, but as you see every person's definition of 'success' is different. Personal success comes in many different forms and your concept of being a success might not be the same as mine. If you want to be successful in your life, then the very first thing you should do is to take the time to decide exactly what “success” means to you. Never mind what it means to anyone else, what does it mean to you? To some people the concept of being a success is earning a lot of money. In fact society seems to base the whole concept of success primarily by how much money a person earns. I'm often amazed at how many people define success as making (or having) a lot of money. The way I see it, everybody's definition of success can be mapped on a simple grid. The way a lot of people think, success should be defined as follows: To...

...Andres Vidal Period 6 True Definition of Success Success – only the single most ambiguous word in the English language. A word most people find abstruse. Can one simply define success without leaving out an attribute people believe defines it? Hit, prosperity, luck, achievement, triumph, accomplishments of an aim or purpose, the attainment of popularity or profits, they're all synonyms or definitions to the term success. Success could be abstract. It could be concrete. It could be huge. It could be small. For all that we know success might not even exist in someone's vocabulary. For some, holding a huge paycheck at the end of the week is success. For some, a trophy after winning in a competition is success. For some the paper with an A+ on it is success. But those are concrete successes. For me, success is a very significant word. Success is abstract for me. It's huge. I don't believe that success is weaving your way through school, becoming a multimillionaire business person who doesn't enjoy life nor what they do for living. Success is the feeling you have when you finally when the state championship game you've been training for five days a week, for six years. Success is the feeling you have when you graduate after 14 years of school and the emotion you feel when you're on that stage with everyone's eyes on you, shake the...
