...Ideas Learned from Graduate Student Orientation Course Starting a new degree program can be a challenge, especially if one has been out of school for some time. There is an old saying, “Well begun is half done.” (“Proverb Hunter”, 2012) Having a good foundation and ideas at the beginning allows easier and more efficient transition throughout the program. The ideas obtained from the Graduate Student Orientation Course are not something new. However, they can be compared to the missing pieces of a treasure map that has been put away up in the attic. Finding a treasure without them may be possible, but very challenging. By having those missing those missing pieces, the path to the treasure can be clear. I obtained many different ideas from the course, but there are three main ideas, which I believe will be very helpful through my degree program. They are (a) time management, (b) effective writing skills, and (c) use of CSU Online Library. Time Management According to Eerde (2003), managing time gives a person a sense of control of time. When a person has a control, it reduces tension and stress. Minimizing those two factors results in a positive performance and outcome. Being stressed about completing a certain task usually results in procrastination. One will try to find a justification to not complete the task right away, because the task will seem too overwhelming when he/she does not have adequate control of time. When the task can be justified as something...

...| Undergraduate Program determines whether we pursue Post-Graduate Degree | Prepared for Dr. A. F. M. Ataur Rahman (ECO455.1) | Gazi Musayab Raffan ( 0910486520)&Mohsin Ul Amin Khan (0910894520) | Abstract The purpose of this research was to find out whether undergraduate performance and program of students reflect the motivation for continuing further education into Post-Graduate level. The research is based on questionnaire survey of fifty Undergraduate students from five different Universities in Dhaka. The questionnaire had 13 questions that were used to find out about the programs and CGPA of the participants as well as their plans for opting for Master’s level education. Since the survey was based on students currently pursuing their Bachelor’s we tried to know as much as possible about their plans for further education. In this regard we have assumed that the students who have planned out their further education in details have greater possibility of actually enrolling for Master’s level education. So we set the questions in such a way so as to reflect well the mental preparation as well other factors for planning ahead. Upon analyzing the data a correlation between the hypothesized constructs have been found in general. Though some questions had given us mixed results, taken as a whole the research does find a relationship between undergraduate performance and program and the continuation of further education. Acknowledgements Firstly we would like...

...nursing school at a baccalaureate degree level will be more prepared and have higher competency levels than nurses graduating from an ADN program. Grand Canyon University follows the guidelines from the American Association of College of Nursing (AACN) for the curriculum regarding the nursing education, including the RN-BSN program. (Grand Canyon University College of Nursing Philosophy, 2011) The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) fact sheet (Creating a More Highly Qualified Nursing Workforce, October 2012) talks about how baccalaureate nurses have more positive outcomes than an associate degree nurse. This refers to not only lower mortality rates but other factors such as medication errors. This shows that a BSN thinks outside of the box and treats the patient as a whole The focus of a patient, while hospitalized, is that they just want to get better. They want to know who brings their medication and who makes their bed. They don’t get to see the educational background of each nurse that cares for them. To them a nurse is a nurse. What the focus of a baccalaureate nurse caring for them is to treat the patient as a whole, not just the person who gives medications. Associate degree programs have been around since 1952. The ADN focus is concerned with the technical aspects of nursing. The focus is meeting the needs of the person through maintenance of equipment and direct nursing care. The tasks of the associate degree nurse is primarily content-driven...

...person. I know I can do anything I set my mind to. I I would also state ITT-Tech has changed my life. In a assignment we had in writing a letter I stated how after starting this program, I have found the right program to earn my nursing degree. Not only have I found the right program, but the right instructors. I have found everyone here to be helpful and encouraging. I have been in and out of college for the last couple of years. I am working as a CNA at a small hospital and been it the health field for about seven years. I have been trying to get into nursing school for almost two years. I was going to a different college and was not happy with their program. I pasted there admission test for college, but was on a waiting list to take the admission test for nursing school. I had to past nursing admission test classes before even being concerned to get into their program, and only the top ten percent got in. I really felt like I was getting nowhere. I was very discouraged and felt college was not working out for me. This past March I started to look around for something else, I kept seeing these ads on TV about different programs in the area. At first I did not believe them, I felt all the nurse programs were all the same. I finally said to myself “let’s just check it out.” I looked online for a program closes to me. I found ITT Tech College was the closest. It took me about a week and a couple of phones from the recruiter to...

...HRM 532-Talent Management Discuss how the leadership at Home Depot intended to use its organizational talent to gain a competitive advantage in the Do It Yourself industry. The Home Depot is the second largest retailer in the world. With that title there is a need to employ a lot of employees. According to the case there are approximately 17,000 leaders into positions each year on average. This is a range from the front line supervisors to executive line supervisors. Unlike most company the Home Depot has more than 80 percent of leadership placements are internal promotions. With that high rate of internal promotion there has to be a seamless pipeline to develop that talent and still have the competitive advantage. That comes from their talent which they take very seriously. The key competitive differentiator in a company that built its reputation and case on knowledgeable associates, problem solving, and superior customer service (Silzer p 657) . The case also goes into detail and explains that the Home Depot was able to keep this focus was by doing the following: • Embedding the enduring importance of human capital to corporate success. • Internalizing the importance of engaged associates in creating a superior customer experience. • Acknowledging significant changes in workforce and consumers demographics. All of these factors help maintain the spot as the second largest retailer in the world. They put enfaces on the people and the service that they...

...College teachers would do well, however, to include their own future prospects as they consider the impact of globalization over the coming years. The university will be a very different place in another decade or two, and what it will look like depends to a large degree on what version of globalization wins out. Today we are often told that education must be made more efficient by being forced into the market model, moving away from the traditional concept of education as a publicly provided social good. This neoliberalism—the belief that today’s problems are best addressed by the market, and that government regulation and the public sector should both be as minimal as possible—is not unique to debates over education: it dominates economics, politics and ideology in the U.S. and most of the world. There are three elements involved in the neoliberal model of education: making the provision of education more cost-efficient by commodifying the product; testing performance by standardizing the experience in a way that allows for multiple-choice testing of results; and focusing on marketable skills. The three elements are combined in different policies—cutbacks in the public sector, closing “inefficient” programs that don’t directly meet business needs for a trained workforce, and the use of computers and distance learning, in which courses and degrees are packaged for delivery over the Internet by for-profit...

Besides these, they discussed about aspects like ‘The Plateau Trap’, ‘The Glass Ceiling’, and they touched on the areas of Gender Issues. The group also sort of gave an orientation to the class about how each and everyone of us should plan our career path-how to choose the right job, right company and the right post, etc. Group 4: 360 Degree Appraisal Johnson & Johnson The fourth group discussed on the case of Johnson & Johnson which uses a 360 Degrees Appraisal program. This type of appraisal is done by all the employees about one another. The case discusses the pros and cons of this type of worker performance styles. The group also argued whether this type of appraisal program should be open or anonymous. In my personal opinion, these types of program should be done anonymously, because the level of accurateness of the performance analysis will be high when it’s anonymous rather than the other way. When you know that the rating you are giving will soon be found out by your peer, more of biasness will appear. Conclusion: Overall, both the presentations were very interesting and knowledge. The theory and practical aspect of a Human Resource Management were covered in a very significant...

...Smythe From: Director of Human Resources Date: April 20, 2011 Subject: Volunteer Program I am writing this memo in response to the email request that you sent me about adding the Center for Non-Violence to our volunteer program. I would like to start off by saying that we here at Dawson & Engels greatly appreciate your input and your interest in expanding our volunteer program to better help the community. However, we are not going to be able to include the program you suggested in our list of company volunteer programs. The reason we cannot include this program is not because of what it currently does, but because of how it’s past may concern certain members of our company. The organization in question has a history of protesting military action in response to political problems. This specific part of the organization's background could offend veterans and the families of soldiers who are currently active. In order to ensure that none of our customers or employees are upset, declining this particular organization seems like the best decision. I understand your reasons for suggesting this organization, because they do a lot of great work with helping to provide conflict resolutions in schools. I have gotten to see how this program works first hand and I agree that it does help out with the vast number of violent outbreaks that are going on in schools. Even though this program could not be added to our company list, I encourage you to help out with the organization...

...and are not attractive to the customer. Kudler has different types of options on how they could advertise the new shoppers program. Because these types of programs are commonplace within any market, Kudler needs to develop a complete database system, with including current and former customers. This database is used specifically for advertising of the new program and data collection of sales. Kudler would need to update or create a new website to add this new program and help customers understand the benefits of registering for the program. Legally Kudler needs to stay within the boundaries set up for E-commerce. The rules for online business and e-mail advertisement are very far-reaching some of which include an opt-out link that allows any consumer to stop receiving e-mail advertisements. This must be easily viewable and verifiable to the recipient for online spam advertisement. Electronic contracts are legal and binding along with electronic signatures, these forms of agreements must have legal disclaimers visible for the customer to read. These are just a few of many other legal ramifications that Kudler would need to investigate and consider before moving forward. Ethical considerations are also vital to both the customers and Kudler Fine Foods when implementing the shoppers program. Any customers who register with Kudler’s shoppers program...

In the past decade, Ball State University has experienced growth in activities which are categorized as Sponsored Programs, with the potential for additional growth into the future. With growth comes the need for clarity in policies and procedures to be followed in the administration of these activities in order to meet University and sponsor requirements, and to provide the best possible support and service to all parties involved. It is important Sponsored Programs are identified as such and that each award is routed through the appropriate offices to assure that the acceptance and administration of these activities meet both University and sponsor requirements and that various technical, legal, and financial issues be properly addressed. ...The organization that I have chosen to write about throughout this course, I could not find any programs or organizations they sponsor. So for the purpose of this assignment I will just write about the Guardian ad Litem program itself. I could easily give an analysis of this organization based off the six policy elements. This organization is awesome and I would recommend checking it out. The missions, goals, and objectives are great for this organization. The mission statement is: “Advocating for the child’s best interest is the Program’s only purpose. These Program Standards are to be interpreted to support the mission”. (Guardian ad Litem, 2004) This organizations goals & objectives are simple for powerful. This organization is purely to help children in the courts system. They believe that a child should be loved and have safe environment no matter what. The forms of benefits and services delivered are coordinated with the courts. On this org’s website they provide a standard of operations and it explains everything, having to do with benefits and services. Entitlement rules are easy for this org; it is solely for the children in the court system that has no voice. This org speaks for them in the courts when no one else will. This organization has a set of standards they go by for these two policies. Guardian ad Litem depends on many for their funding. According to Guardian ad Litem (2004), “Federal, state and local government agencies, non-profit and faith-based organizations...

...behavior is an ongoing topic of discussion for law enforcement officials and agencies. There are many programs geared toward helping juveniles to cope with their issues and receive the help and treatment needed to be successful in life. In the city of Petersburg, Virginia there is a Firesetters Program. This program addresses the problem of fires set by children. A Juvenile Firesetter is a child typically between the ages of 4 and 14 who exhibits an unusual interest or curiosity in fires, or a child with a history of fire play. This program also seeks to find the reason behind the setting of fires or what triggers the child to set fires. Some reasons could be the divorce of parents, frustration, anger, loneliness, a crisis at home, death, or issues or problems at school ( City of Petersburg, 2015). This program also meets with the parents and the child or children to conduct confidential sessions with the Public Educator or Fire Marshal. An interview is conducted to try to find out how long the problem has existed, the primary reason for it, and the dangers associated with it. An evaluation is done and follow up visits are scheduled for the child. Another diversion program in the state of Virginia is the Community Services Program. This program allows youth to work without pay in a government or non-profit agency and it is an alternative program for active jail time. The youth are required to complete their allotted hours of service and if they...
