Type of people who live in the community
The community is comprised of people from low socio economic backgrounds, limited educational backgrounds and skills. The racial residents that comprise the neighborhood are 85% African American, 10% Hispanic and 5% Caucasian.
Type of work the residents do
The residents are blue collar workers. The city has several oil refinery plants surrounding the area. Some of the residents work at the plants, some have mediocre jobs making minimum wage and others are receiving checks from the welfare department. How and where members of the community interact such as festivals, grocery stores, community events, and so forth
The housing project has a community center for the residents which they patronize quite often. Located near the housing project is a shopping center called Delmont Village which has a grocery store, clothing store and several other stores that are accessible to fill their needs and wants. Down the street are gas stations, restaurants and convenient stores situated in walking distance if they feel the need to venture out. The individuals living in the community seem to take pride in their dwelling area regardless of their financial or economic status. The property is clean and free of waste and other debris. The men are seen cutting the grass and the children are observed and cared for while on the playground. Family members get together and social ize at the community center. They have formed a community watch to rid the community from drug dealers, theft and vandalism. People tend to feel that if the residents are living in a housing project they do not take pride in their community.
