Delphine LaLaurie was a New Orleans socialite who lived from 1775 to 1842 and is infamous for torturing and killing her slaves. Delphine was born in New Orleans and was prominent person in New Orleans’s social circles. After a fire there was a discovery of a torture chamber in her house. Afterward she escape to France with her husband.

Research showing a connection between environment and the disorder include a study where parents of delinquents are often alcoholics or criminals. Their homes were also shown to be disrupted by divorce, separation, or absence of a parent. Some adopted parents are more likely to develop this disorder due to a lack of an emotional bond because they moved from one caregiver to another. Lack of parental supervision is another factor that could lead to APD. Children who antisocial tend to stick together and these relationships can encourage aggression and other behavior.
