See attached excel Charts for this answer. Discuss whether or not both processes are in control and what conclusion may be drawn. I tried to put the statistics together to have an overall perspective of the defects since most of them fall in the category of attributes rather than variables. I then took into consideration the 20 days as the period of observation rather than the four weeks. A P-chart methodology would rightly describe the products presented as good or bad because it is not a quick fix quality management system. After developing control limits with control P-charts to be able to understand the overall proportion of defects, I noticed curiously that both processes seem to be in control whereas from a first glance at the figures of the defects of the two materials, one has the impression that the new material is completely out of place for any serious business venture. Our problem was to determine whether there is a major shift in the process that is resulting in the alteration of that process. When we consider individual items, as for example, the cracks or the air bubbles, the process appears not to be in control. These particular defects virtually double with production from the new material. This is the source of the trauma that Jose is now experiencing. In the final analysis, we can conclude that...

...1. CHARACTERISTICS OF WESTERN CUISINE- : European cuisine The cuisines of Western countries are diverse by themselves, although there are common characteristics that distinguish Western cooking from cuisines of Asian countries and others. Compared with traditional cooking of Asian countries, for example, meat is more prominent and substantial in serving-size. Steak in particular is a common dish across the West. Similarly to some Asian cuisines, Western cuisines also put substantial emphasis on sauces as condiments, seasonings, or accompaniments (in part due to the difficulty of seasonings penetrating the often larger pieces of meat used in Western cooking). Many dairy products are utilized in the cooking process, except in nouvelle cuisine. Wheat-flourbread has long been the most common sources of starch in this cuisine, along with pasta, dumplings and pastries, although the potato has become a major starch plant in the diet of Europeans and their diaspora since the European colonization of the Americas. 2. EFFECT OF WESTERN CUISINE PHILIPPINE CUISINE – Cuisine is one of the main traditions and pride in Philippine culture. Philippine Cuisine is a fusion of different culinary cultures, influence from neighboring countries as well as relics from the colonial era. Philippine Cuisine is a unique combination of Eastern and Western flavors. It is a blend of spicy and full of flavor spices from Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia, has a different style of saudi arabia and china...

...Head: Delta Plastics, Inc. (B) Delta Plastics, Inc. Dr. Kyle Peacock Operations Management: BUS 515 November 12, 2011 The control chart helps in detecting and understanding presence of special causes of variation. In order to deal and tackle defects in the products and to make quality products available to the consumers, the control chart for product so prepared by standard material and for product prepared by super plastic would help in understanding the areas to be focused and controlled. The 3-sigma control chart prepared for the standard material clearly gives the reflection of the process that can be controlled. There control chart depicts two major areas known as control limits. These are represented by the upper control limit (UCL) and the lower control limit (LCL). The calculation of the control limit can be done through the help of identifying the base control limit, variation and standard deviation for the process. The upper and the lower control limits for a process are calculated by adding and subtracting three times standard deviation respectively to the base control limit. When a point that exceeds control limits then it used to produce signals that contains an alarm for action to be taken to maintain the standards of production process. ...CASE: Delta Plastics, Inc. (B) By Sarah Wolfe ITT Have you taken the time to look at your plastic containers? Well, if you do there is a chance that your containers have flaws and defects that are noticeable to the human eye. There are defects that do not get in the way of using the containers but for quality purposes, it still is a defect. Case Questions 1. Prepare a 3- sigma control chart for both production processes, using the new and standard (use the quality report in Delta Plastics, Inc. Case A, Chapter 5). Are both processes in control? What can you conclude? 2. Are both materials equally subject to the defects? 3. Given your findings, what advice would you give Jose? 1. Prepare a 3- sigma control chart for both production processes, using the new and standard (use the quality report in Delta Plastics, Inc. Case A, Chapter 5). Are both processes in control? What can you conclude? a. The control data is based on a chart showing the type of defect as well as the number of defects for one month, a total of 20 days. The average number of defects for the standard material is 1.93 and the range is 2.6. The control limit is 2.41, the upper control limit is 3.28 and the lower control limit is .571. The average number of defects for the new material is 2.44 and the range is 4.55. The control limit is 2.41, upper control limit is 4.14 and the lower control limit is -1.73. b. ...Delta Plastics, Inc. (A) Assignment #2 Breana Rainge Delta Plastics, is a company that designs and manufactures plastic containers for household and kitchen use. The R&D group working for Delta is constantly thinking of new ways to develop, design and produce new plastic materials for the company. The new containers that the R&D group is currently working on are designed to be able to be removed from the oven and immediately stored in the refrigerator if necessary, with no wait time to cool. The group will be looking to see if the new material can stand up to and pass the standard material now utilized at Delta Plastics, Inc. The group will conduct an investigation into how a total quality management program will help them produce this new super plastic material, why and how utilizing a definition of quality makes a difference in the production process of this new material, how defects in the quality dimensions will affect the new product and then give a recommendation as to what the company should do as far as producing this new material. Here are a few reasons on how the TQM Program can benefit your organization. A higher quality product is one benefit. By stressing the importance of quality products, your company will be able to focus more on creating the highest level of quality possible. Total Quality Management is a great benefit this way, because it helps you to constantly be aware of the quality level that is being produced by your products (www.businessknowledgesource...

...Delta Plastics, Inc. (A) Stephanie Baldwin Kesterson Strayer University Discuss how an organization can benefit from a Total Quality Management program. An organization can benefit from a Total Quality Management (TQM) program because TQM is focused on meeting the expectations of the customer. Reid and Sanders (2010) define TQM as an integrated effort designed to improve quality performance at every level of the organization. TQM improves business from top to bottom because everyone is working towards a common goal. TQM is also a focused approach to guarantee customer satisfaction which will increase sales as well as increase profits. Having a TQM program also improves working conditions where discussion between managers and employees is open and where employees are motivated to work better. Companies can benefit from TQM simply because it insists on quality and excellence across the whole operation. Analyzing the case more closely, speculate which definition of quality each of the four main players was adhering to and discuss your rationale for each employee. In response to Delta Plastic’s “super plastic” product, there were several key opinions. Isabelle Harrison, Director of Research and Development, believes that the product created is safe, but she would like to have the opportunity to quality test it further and fine tune the product. Jose De Costa, Director of Manufacturing, agrees with Harrison because he believes it is possible the “super plastic” could...

...patterns are loop, whorl, and arch. The ridges in a loop pattern move in one side, recurve, touch or pass through an imaginary line drawn from the delta to the core, then exit the pattern on the same side from which it first entered. The delta of a fingerprint is the point on a ridge at or in front of and nearest the center of the median of the ridge. Anatomically, it is located as a triangular area where the ridges move outward in three swift directions. Whorl patterns consist of a series of almost concentric circles, contain two deltas, and account for roughly 25 percent of fingerprints. The four types of whorl patterns are plain, central pocket loop, double loop, and accidental loop. In an arch pattern, the ridges flow in one side and out the opposite side; and account for roughly five percent of all fingerprints. The two types of arch patterns are plain and tented. The three types of fingerprints that investigators may find at a crime scene are patent prints, plastic prints, and latent prints. Patent prints are visible prints that occur when a foreign substance on the skin of a person’s finger comes in direct contact with the smooth surface on another object. These prints are visible to the naked eye and typically occur when particles stick to the ridges of the fingers and are easily identifiable when left on an object. Plastic prints are those that occur when a finger leaves an indentation on a soft pliable surface. No enhancement is required in order to view these...

...Delta Plastics, Inc. (A) Company Background Delta Plastics, Inc. specialized in the design and manufacture of plastic containers, primarily for kitchen and household use.Their products were sold through merchandise retailers and were recognized for high quality. Delta also had an active R&D group that was continuously working to develop new plastic materials and new product designs. Delta was a recognized industry leader and was aggressively looking to increase brand recognition and market share.Delta’s R&D group had recently developed a new plastic material that tolerates rapid changes in temperature, from heating to deep cooling. This material could be used to make containers for kitchen use that could immediately be moved from the oven to the refrigerator. Unlike glass containers with this capability, the plastic containers would not break or chip. Delta’s marketing group was eager to promote sales of containers made with the new material. Marketing believed the new material could revolutionize the industry, so they pushed for rapid production. They argued that the sooner the new products were available to customers, the sooner the company could corner the market. The Decision The decision whether to initiate production or continue with material testing was made during a heated meeting on April 28. Isabelle Harrison, Director of R&D, stated that more product testing was needed in order to fine-tune the characteristics of the new material. Although there was no question regarding...

CEO Announcement Memo Project Summary Castle Metals was once considered to be a state of the art company in the metal service center industry. We were ahead of the game as far as technology and what it has to offer. Many events, both economical and organizational occurred over the past few decades. These events were not positive in all cases. We have now found ourselves behind the times – very behind. Not only had our largest competitors replaced or enhanced their core business systems, our customers and suppliers were in process or completed the same. This left us in a very unfavorable light for competitive advantage or futuristic growth in the technology realm. This brings us to the current need to look hard at the existing mainframe legacy business systems that are in place today. The project proposal outlined in this paper and presentation has been dubbed the Business System Replacement or BSR. The need is outlined as looking for the replacement of these existing disparate systems that have become outdated and unsupported. We are looking at Business Process Enhancements which include such elements as significantly improved inventory management and control, improved controls surrounding financial reporting, real-time reporting and visibility of information and reduced reliance on manually generated databases and reporting. In addition...

...Relationship By Rick Spitler and Sherief Meleis Some banking customers — just like consumers who shop at Wal-Mart or fly on Southwest Airlines — are happy to trade style or comfort to get their business expedited on attractive terms. Related Charts • Discount Banks Pursue the 'Other Half' of the Market • Winning Formula • Transforming the Generalist Retail Bank For one view of what the future of the banking industry may look like, consider the airline industry, where Southwest Airlines Co. has ascended to dominance in just 30 years. While "full-service" carriers like American Airlines Inc., Delta Air Lines Inc. and United Air Lines Inc. focused on building elaborate jet fleets and "hub" systems at major regional airports, Southwest adopted a discount fares strategy based on older inner-city airports and a zeal for efficiency. To control costs, for example, Southwest re-used plastic boarding passes and handed out peanuts instead of hot meals — and passed along the savings to its customers. Today, Southwest's market capitalization is roughly seven times that of the nearest U.S. legacy air carrier. Overall, discount carriers have claimed 25% of the U.S. commercial passenger market, according to the National Institute for Aviation Research, based at Wichita State University. That share is expected to soar to 40% over the next few years. This is a harbinger of things to come in retail financial services. Operating with superior efficiency and offering various combinations...

...Man versus Nature: Technology Versus Environment: Money Versus Wild Life Bristol Bay Although the fishing industry has long been associated with the contribution of marine pollution little work has been done on the effects on the industry itself of marine debris and other pollution. The fishing industry is responsible for discarded nets, hooks, fishing poles, and many times sunken boats, among other gear. In many circumstances this is not the intended plan when going fishing to catch their paychecks. In fact the fishing industry pays a high price for these losses from the time they have to replace their nets to the pulling of old nets and trash out of their new nets on a regular basis. When questioned about the effects of marine debris on their fishing activities, Shetland fishermen responded that 92% had recurring problems with accumulated debris in nets, 69% had had their catch contaminated by debris and 92% had snagged their nets on debris on the seabed. Many also experienced fouled propellers and blocked intake pipes. On average, 1-2 hours per week were spent clearing debris from nets. Debris could cause a restricted catch and many boats avoided particular fishing areas altogether due to the high concentrations of debris. It has gotten to the point for many fishers that they can no longer fish certain areas known to be well stocked with money fish due to the time consuming issues with trash and fishing debris in those specific waters due to left behind gear. Ultimately...
