It was a memorable event because there was a cross match of Cultures and ideas, owing to the fact that the groom was not a Nigerian, compared to the bride who was. The event was attended by the family of the groom, who came all the way from England. The parents of the groom had to be dressed in the usual traditional attire, fit for the traditional rites, though It was a struggle to have the head gear of the grooms mother in place because it kept going off at intervals owing to the size of her head. After the traditional rites (payment of dowry) the bride was unveiled as the tradition demands, prayers were said by the oldest man in the bride’s family and it was all merriment and dance. The grand reception was held in a hall(Orchid Hotel) in Asaba and I had the opportunity to witness an opulent and electrifying decoration by one of the best Event Planners from Abuja Nigeria(Red Diamond Events) There was so much class and elegance, the hall was a masterpiece and I felt and imagined...

...Culture at Tennessee State University Observing the unique culture of Tennessee State University. Founded in 1912, Tennessee State University (TSU) is a comprehensive, urban, coeducational, land-grant institution. There are currently two locations. There is the 500-acre main campus that nestles in a beautiful residential neighborhood along the Cumberland River, and the downtown Avon Williams campus that sits near the center of Nashville’s business and government district. There are many students that come from all across the country. These students bring many different cultures that make Tennessee State what it is today. In 1909, the Tennessee State General Assembly created three normal schools, including the Agricultural and Industrial Normal School, which would grow to become TSU. The first 247 students began their academic careers on June 19, 1912, and William Jasper Hale served as head of the school. Students, faculty, and staff worked together as a family to keep the institution operating, whether the activity demanded clearing rocks, harvesting crops, or carrying chairs from class to class. The school gained the capacity to grant bachelor’s degrees in 1922, reflecting its new status as a four-year teachers’ college. By 1924, the college became known as the Agricultural and Industrial State Normal College and the first degrees were awarded. In 1927, “Normal” was dropped from the name. Throughout the 1920s and 1930s, the college grew in scope and stature under...

...Imagine a place where you can sit on the beach as the waves roll in; the smell of the sea and fresh fish cooking in the distance at a nearby restaurant. A place where you can experience a thrill of blasting over the sand dunes at high speeds in a buggy, visit aquariums, and see wildlife up close. Imagine a place of relaxation, watching the whales migrate across the ocean. A place like this can only be one of a kind, the Oregon coast. The Oregon coast would be a great place to spend a vacation, it’s inexpensive and relaxing. So how much would it cost to go to the Oregon coast? What kinds of attractions would one be able to see? Is there stuff for the kids to do as well as adults? What kind of food do you get to eat when you go to the cost? These are all great questions that you ask yourself before planning a trip anywhere. When planning a trip you will want to figure out what the area has to offer. This will give you a sense of where you what to go and when. I enjoy the thrill of adventure and enjoy traveling to places. I have never been to the Oregon coast, so I decided to plan a trip there and find out what attractions they have to offer me. By googling “the Oregon Coast” the first website that I came across was the “Oregon Coast Visitors Association” link (Oregon Coast Visitors Association, 2008). This website’s home page displayed a slide show of pictures of the coast and a map that you are able to click on different areas to find out more information. I clicked...

...The piece of art I chose to analyze on the Florida State University Campus is the Unconquered Statue, which sits right outside the football stadium. The statue depicts Chief Osceola throwing a spear into the ground while riding his horse Renegade on top of a round stone block that has the word Unconquered carved into it. There is also a small inscription in the base that says, “This statue does not depict a particular person or even. Rather, it symbolically portrays the unconquered spirit of the Seminole people of the 19th century and the timeless legacy of that sprit that continues to burn bright into the future”. The statue was constructed by Fritz White, who specializes in life size sculptures and monuments, the unconquered statue being his biggest project, which is double life size. It is made of bronze and has a stone base and all together stands a whopping thirty-one feet tall. It was unveiled October 10th 2003 but it wasn't until September 2nd when the word Unconquered was carved into the stone. The statue sits in front of Doak Campbell Stadium the home field of the Seminoles. The intended viewpoint of the statue is to be standing in front of it with the football stadium in the background. There is a tradition to light the end of the spear on fire the night before home football games as Florida State fans show their support. Fritz White uses the natural form of the house and the human and very little of the statue is stylized. Fritz used realism to create a lifelike...

...Penn State Scandal Everything was looking good for Joe Paterno and Penn State football as his football managing career rose with an overall record of 298-136-3 but in 2011, all that changed. Back in 2000 a janitor of Penn State witnessed Sandusky receiving oral sex from a young boy, the janitor reported what he saw to co-workers and his supervisor but none of these men reported these actions to authorities. It wasn’t until November 5, 2011 that Sandusky was arrested on a $100,000 bail and up to 40 criminal counts. ESPN were quickly in the scene to investigate and report the allegations on Sandusky. They quickly reported saying Sandusky was charged with more than 50 counts of child sex-abuse involving 10 boys he met through The Second Mile, a children's charity he founded. New York Times went on to report Sandusky has been accused of these charges before hand and action was never taken until now. 2 days after Sandusky’s arrest, athletic director Tim Curley and vice president for finance and business Gary Schultz stepped down from their positions, also being facing charges for not notifying the police for Sandusky’s actions. On December 16, 2011, Tim Curley and Gary Schultz were held for trial. "I don't remember any reports to me that it was sexual in nature," Mr. Curley told the grand jury, a statement prosecutors contend was a lie (Schmitz) Tim Curley allegedly said he did not report anything to the authorities because he felt a crime never occurred. This controversy led...

...Dillon Smith February 15, 2011 Exhibit Paper “Home of the Champions” LSU athletics can certainly be defined by its unique tradition, triumphant teams, dedicated fans, and unquestionable support from the entire city of Baton Rouge. Thanks to “Great athletes spanning the decades,” LSU’s athletic program has flourished into a charismatic powerhouse. Many of the memorable moments within LSU’s sports history can be found in the Jack & Priscilla Andonie Museum located on LSU’s campus. The museum began with an LSU alumnus, Jack Andonie, whose goal was to fill the museum with collections of LSU sports relics. He was a devoted fan with a passionate love for LSU. Andonie collected 13,000 LSU sports related items. The vast collection began to take over his home and his wife, Priscilla Andonie, forced him to make a decision between “Me or the stuff.” Arousing the construction of the museum in 2004, Jack Andonie decided to donate his valuable collection to LSU. Since then, the museum is fueled by donations from fans and other generous alumni. As I walked into the museum a picture of Tiger Stadium, also known as Death Valley, instantly caught my attention. This nationally recognized attribute tends to provoke feelings of excitement and pride in LSU fans. Looking around, I found myself repeatedly reading “Home of the Champions” signs. As I viewed the autographed relics, retired jerseys, and championship trophies, I soon realized the reality of that statement. LSU’s dominating...

...Website Analysis Assignment I choose the website of Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan to analysis. The site clearly states Gleaners mission - Nourishing Communities by Feeding Hungry People, on the heading with the company’s icon and also in the first “What we do” text chunk. From the information provided, I found that it serves three audience segments: donators, volunteers, and partner agencies. From my perspective, the donators group is the one the organization mostly to target, because compare to other groups, the organization provides exhaustive introductions about donation and put them on a more easy-to-grasp place. For instance, three out of five homepage text blurbs and the first picture comes out in the homepage are all about donation The website groups related items into different menus and links. However, the link name and the hierarchical order are confusing to me. The main menu arranges information as HOME, TAKE ACTION, EVENTS/FOOD DRIVES, END HUNGER and PARTNER AGENCIES. For the first sight, people will not understand what the END HUNGER section means and will have to search. Besides, I think the END HUNGER and EVENTS/FOOD DRIVES sections should be before the TAKE ACTION and PARTNER AGENCIES. Because people need to see the organization’s mission and approaches before making a donation or partner decision. Moreover, the website does not do efficient in terms of web navigation. Different audiences have to click back and forward among different...

...Exercise 6.1 There are many different goals I would like to complete. My first goal is to work for a state program called CareStar. Then I want to build a program called Next Step for teens in my local community. My last goal is to advocate for the Scleroderma Foundation regularly. The steps that must be taken to achieve my goals will take years. In order for me to work at CareStar I must be a licensed social worker. So my steps will be to complete the Bachelors program at the University of Phoenix, transfer to Wright State University’s master’s degree program, complete internships, take state test and apply for a position. When building my program for Next Step different kinds of steps will have to be taken. First my plan is to research information on becoming non-profit. Following will be copy righting my name, calculating all expenses, writing for government and private grants, hiring employees and building community partnerships. Well my last goal is the hardest because I don’t have very much free time. My plan to dedicate more time to the Scleroderma Foundation will first consist of me opening time in my schedule by becoming more organized. Then I plan to create a virtual interaction site for chapter members. This will allow me to be an advocate using the internet. Last I will attend conferences, meetings and walks. Exercise 6.2 Assisting Freydia will depend on completion of requirements she must meet. Because Freydia is still addicted to crack cocaine the big...

...Women in the Pulpit? In churches today women outnumber men in the congregation and women have been teaching classes, heading ministries, and are evangelist. Even though women have filled these roles in the church why is there controversy in the church about women having the right to be ordained preachers. Before doing research and reading my sources I had only heard of a few women preachers who were pastors of churches and I have come in contact with many male pastors who do not believe that a woman is able to preach the word of God in the pulpit. They address them as speakers and evangelists but, not as reverend or pastor. Many male pastors I have come in contact with will not even let a woman stand in their pulpit. They often set a podium on the side of the pulpit. Pastor Marie Nutall of College Station, Texas has body guards because of the death threats that she has received (Nutall). I was not aware of the violence that some women preachers face while trying to preach God’s word. According to Reverend Richard Allen, women were not called to preach for the simple fact that Jesus chose twelve men to be his disciples (Booth 109). This argument has been heard throughout the church, but Professor William H. Myers argues that there are twenty-two different instances where women had been called to preach the word (112). Many people use scriptures to validate their points on why women should not and cannot be preachers. Believers of the word tend to follow along with...

Dolan is vice president at Samarian Group, in Manhattan, where he’s responsible for business development and client relations and a partner in Wealth Management firm Princeton Blazer Advisors. He came to Samarian from Voyager Group, a private equity investment firm, where he was responsible for government relations and business development. He also served as vice president for Voyager Jet Center, a private aviation company servicing clients in the sports and entertainment industries. Dolan spoke to the class for a half hour about his career and his education at Penn State, and then took questions. College is the time to learn new skills and to work well in teams, said Dolan. One should also study what one is passionate about, he added. When he first entered Penn State, he studied the sciences because he was good at them. But he soon realized he was passionate about marketing, so he switched his major to business. Many of the students in the class are athletes, and they asked Dolan about the roles of competition, networking and deal making in the business world. Dolan said that athletes often make good business people because they have that “competitive fire.” “To succeed you must never quit,” he said. “Business is like sports; when the buzzer blows you must leave it all on the floor.” It’s also important to find a mentor and to learn how to network, he said. “But what’s most important is to learn something...
