...BRIEFING Non-European Labour Migration to the UK AUTHOR: DR SCOTT BLINDER PUBLISHED: 30/01/2012 NEXT UPDATE: 30/01/2013 1st Revision www.migrationobservatory.ox.ac.uk BRIEFING: Non-European Labour Migration to the UK This briefing examines labour migration to the UK among people who are not from the European Economic Area (EEA). Labour migrants are those whose primary reason for migrating or whose legal permission to enter the UK is for employment. Key Points Non-EEA labour migration increased over the 1990s and early 2000s but has declined since a peak in 2004-2006. Skilled and highly-skilled workers (Tier 1 and 2 of the Points-Based System) take up slightly less than half of entry visas issued for work. A majority of non-EEA labour migrants coming to the UK are male; a majority of newly arriving labour migrants are aged 25-44. The largest numbers of non-EEA labour migrants are nationals of Asian countries, followed by the Americas; labour migration among Africans has declined since at least 2004. Understanding the evidence Labour migration involves people coming to the UK for the purpose of paid work. Depending on the source of data, measures of labour migration might involve people who say that they are coming to the UK because of a definite job or to look for work (International Passenger Survey data), or people who have permission to enter the UK through a workrelated visa (administrative data on visas and passenger entries). IPS and administrative...

...The Demerit Point system In today’s world, driving is not only a privilege but is also a necessity in most cases. In those cases, rules are always applied and are to be followed. The Demerit Point system helps keep order in the driving world. This system is a necessity when it comes to driving. To start off, many people like to break the rules. These people, who don’t follow the rules deliberately many times, should suffer punishments. The Demerit Points system renders passing out these punishments a lot easier. The system is used to determine what the punishment will be and how severe it will be. This can easily diminish the amount of reckless drivers. They eventually learn their lesson and stop. To continue, the system could save lives....

The presentation will proceed to identify and analyze the merits and demerits of the plurality and proportional representation electoral systems with reference to the practice in South Africa and Zambia. However, the analysis on the merits and demerits of the two electoral systems will be preceded with a discussion on the relevance of elections in a democracy. ...QUESTION: Market economy is the one in which decisions about the allocation and use of resources by producers and consumers are primarily through a system of markets and prices (Hodgetts, R and Smart, T.L.). According to O’Connor (1988) a market economy is an economic system where resources are largely owned by private individuals and firms who seek to make profits. In a market economy there is operation of free markets of demand and supply to determine the market equilibrium. Also there is very little or no government intervention in the economy. It is also called the Laissez faire. McConnell, Brue and Flynn define a command economy as the one in which government owns most property resources and economic decisions occurs through the central economic plan. In a command economy there is no private participation in economic activities meaning that the government solves the basic economic problems of scarcity. The basic economic questions are; how to produce, what to produce, in what quantities and for whom to produce. In a market economy, these questions are answered by certain individuals who own the factors of production that is land, labour and capital in the private sector. The question of what to produce is answered by demand in this economy (market economy) since the individuals have the objective of profit maximisation, hence they will produce the commodity that consumers are willing and able to buy. After deciding on what to produce, there is need for knowing the quantities...

...found it harder to afford such places of shelter; the cost of standard living is expensive, Take Bermuda for example. its cost of living index amounting to 133.68. (Jones C. 2017). Will the government intervene once again and restore parity to cost of common residences? I will be viewing the UK housing market system and provide a thorough evaluation as to whether government intervention is mandatory in the aspect of housing market. Free market is a market determined by the consumers and producers. Resources in this type of market are only allocated to those who can afford it, which deduces that there is constant inequality of income amongst individuals, for example, Hong Kong. They’re known to possess the lowest income tax, statistics justifying their tax “starting at 2% and ending at 17%.’’(https://www.guidemehongkong.com/business-guides/staffing-your-business/hong-kong-salaries-tax-guide)...

...(1990), the WAD approach emerged as a neo-Marxist feminist approach and sought to address the limitations of modernization theory within Women In Development, (WID) approach. The WAD approach emphasizes the idea that the rise of globalisation with its inequitable gender relations and prioritisation of global capitalism was inimical to women and men in the developing countries. Another argument of the WAD approach is that, it accepts women as important economic actors in their societies and argues that women have always been part of the development process, therefore integrating women in development is a myth. A further WAD argument is that the structure of capitalism keeps women at home in the domestic arena and that the capitalist class system is the determining factor in the male abuse of women. Connell et al (1999) explain that, one of the tenets of the WAD approach is that although women have always been involved in developmental activities, their contributions have been overlooked and marginalized in national and donor development plans. The WAD approach argues that women are deeply integrated in the Capitalist structures, and no amount of superficial manipulation will solve their problems. What is required for women to advance is the removal of the inequitable structures and relationships. The needed reforms are both international and domestic, and must be at the political and institutional level as well as the economic. They will include the state expropriating many privately...

RICHARD LUMADUE STUDENT: CAROL J MOZEE THE PROVIDENCE DEBATE: 10/08/2013 201340 FALL 2013 THEO 350-B05 INSTRUCTOR: DR. RICHARD LUMADUE STUDENT: CAROL J MOZEE The Providence Debate: Personally why should there be a debate about God, and his where about and how and what he can and can’t do? Who is in control? God is! I know to some people this may not be an appropriate way to start this research paper, but it is what it is and I feel sad that this is how the world thinks and appreciate our God, our Father and Friend. It’s all in defining everything, and not just seeing God’s work and taking, God’s word and believing in God for whom he is. Defining God’s Providence, all things happens according to God’s Sovereign Will, “ God is in control. Romans 8:28 “ And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose”. When one defines God’s providence it is referring to the way God governs the world. Does God really sit on His throne and dictate or rule the world? It is not surprising that there is some disagreement in the evangelical world concerning the control of God, His dealing with salvation especially as affected by Jesus and the freewill of mankind. Some theologians think that the three are in contradictory of each other. Are they really in conflict with each other’s or can all three exist in...

... 3. Reduce consumption of demerit goods To act as an instrument to achieve the economic aims of Government To redistribute income on a socially acceptable basis To provide revenue to finance necessary government spending: This will include services for all the public and amongst other things this should include things like Transport, education, health, housing and benefits and environmental issues. The problem here however, is that some people may argue that they are paying for services that they do not use, for example some people would prefer to use a private medical clinic instead of a government one. The services in this area which are funded by tax payers need to mirror the needs of the majority of the population is order to be as fair as possible. The two main questions here are, what counts as necessary government spending and how much tax should people pay to contribute to this. Reduce the gap between the rich and the poor through redistribution: Progressive taxation can be used to reduce inequality in society. This helps certain individuals to never fall below a level of income that would deprive them of access to basic needs such as food, clothing, housing, education and health care. Reduce consumption of demerit goods Taxes can help to reduce the consumption of unhealthy products such as alcohol and tobacco, which will ultimately benefit society. In order to achieve the tax aims an affective and fair tax system must be in place. Adam Smith was...
