“Career Interests Profiler and Competencies Activity”

The Career Interests Profiler showed me some interesting career possibilities, none of which are related to the degree I’m perusing, but it’s nice to have options. The Competencies Activity helped label personal attributes I know I do well, and helped me identify some personal opportunities I have.

The strengths that were identified in the Competencies Activity were attributes like being innovative, researching, taking initiative, adapting to change, and so on. Though it didn’t label the opportunities, the process helped me think of a few personal areas that call for improvement. One of which is organization. Critical thinking involves keeping your thoughts, notes, and studies organized. Knowing that I struggle with organization helps me put more focus on organizing my life, especially activities that call for critical thinking. For example, writing the paper on “Demonstrative Communication” has called for some research, which I do well, but organizing the research from our text, and online, calls for some organization skills, which I struggle with. By making an outline, or spider graph, to organize my thoughts, I’ve found ways to help me organize my thoughts, notes, and research.

The exercise also identified a strength that has helped me throughout my work history, and schooling. I feel that I’m a creative person, and very innovative. I often come up with ideas that are “outside the box”. These attributes have helped me be successful in the workplace, and I hope the help me continue my
