Soon enough, my appointment is over, and I am on my way out with a new toothbrush in hand, clean teeth, and a fresh smile. But this time was different for me as I visualized them from an observer viewpoint.
When I walked in, I was looking around and I found a very clean and well maintained office. All surfaces of each examination room, including dental chair, dental light, countertops, and drawer handles, were clean. Ashraf, the dental hygienist that I observed sterilized the instruments after each patient. She followed dental protocols by appropriately …show more content…

The patient was a 40-years-old male who had not seen a dentist in couple years due to a trauma that he experienced with his old dentist couple years ago. The set up and break down of the hygiene rooms in this office were done by both the dental hygienists and the dental assistants. They all work together as a team.

So dental hygiene can remove as much of the superficial tartar as possible for the first session. And then they are going to follow diagnose with the patient in the following sessions. I also learned if you want to be a dental hygienist you have to be very patient and understanding, because you are going to visit all kind of patients. You have to see every detail about patients and pay very careful attention when you are cleaning their teeth, so you can take every small stains from their

Disclosing Research Studies

...ABSTRACT The purpose of this action research study was to determine if using a disclosing solution and a camera would increase patient compliance and improve oral hygiene habits. I intended to show patients how to discover the location of biofilm (plaque) on their teeth and gingival tissues with the help of visual aids. This would promote a more dynamic home care regimen resulting in lower Plaque and Bleeding Index scores between dental visits. I believe that if patients can see the areas where biofilm is located, it would be easier for them to use the toothbrush and floss more effectively. Keeping Plaque Index scores low will help prevent dental decay, gum disease and maintain the integrity of any existing restorations. In addition, increased patient compliance will result in overall better home care to encourage less inflammation and bleeding to minimize future problems. Patients will be able to recognize the biofilm and...
