I. SHORT BACKGROUND Krispy Kreme is an international retailer of premium-quality sweet treats, including its signature hot Original Glazed® doughnut. Headquartered in Winston-Salem, NC, the company has offered the highest-quality doughnuts and great-tasting coffee since it was founded in 1937. Today, Krispy Kreme and its one-of-a-kind Hot Light can be found in more than 980 locations around the world. Currently Krispy Kreme can be found in 24 countries.
II. ANALYSIS
A. Location Krispy Kreme has stores located all over the United States of America but stores have not been limited to only the US (Canada, United Kingdom, Mexico, Australia and etc.) Krispy Kreme can be found in grocery stores (Wal-Mart & Target), convenience stores, and gas stations. In the Philippines, there are more than 15 branches of Krispy Kreme and that includes the Krispy Kreme Limketkai and Centrio. Krispy Kreme Limketkai and Centrio is such a big advantage for the franchisee because basically it is located on malls. Large, usually enclosed shopping centers containing a mix of different types of businesses, malls are terrific, as they usually service a large area or market and are accessible from major thoroughfares. Malls are natural traffic draws, and the good ones can attract a large number of potential customers to your business. But all that traffic usually comes with a high price. In addition to rent, you'll likely be required to pay for common fees such as area maintenance, association dues, and mall advertising, among other charges.
B. Store Layout & Design The prime key of store layout is the factory inside the store where you can watch how the donuts

Technological Development and Dependency

...Rodrigo Contreras 11/26/2012 Randy Ringen Technology Dependence Technology is the making, modification, usage, and knowledge of tools, machines, techniques, crafts, systems, methods of organization, in order to solve a problem, improve a preexisting solution to a problem, achieve a goal and perform a specific function (Wikipedia). Technology generally speaking is the process by which humans adapt nature to meet their needs and wants. According to a study performed from May 2010 to May 2011, Google receives 1 billion unique visitors per month; from math homework to relationship problems. Google gives its users the ability to search on a variety of topics. Just an example on how humans have become too dependent on technology. By becoming too dependent on technology will give negative effects to our ability to think, our education, and we will become lethargic. Many people believe we are losing our ability to think because we now have computers to give us the answers and to even correct our spelling. The mere thought of having a helping hand called the "Internet" in situations that you can solve all by yourself, is the sign of dependence. I feel that technology interferes with our ability to think and work for one, by making information too accessible for us. We can simply look something up, the answer is there, and we don't have to think or explore the subject. Everything is on the internet. Technology, with games, Facebook on the go, and texting, provides constant...

Dependency on Technology

...ARE WE TOO DEPENDENT ON TECHNOLOGY? Introduction Today, when were driving our cars, following a GPS, and talking on the phone we can wondered if we are too dependent on technology. It feels that recently, more and more people have become less connected with the real world and more connected with 'cyberspace'. Today, less people sit down to lunch and have a conversation without an interruption from a Smartphone buzzing on the table. Hardly anyone can go a day without posting a status on Facebook or sending out tweets or even constantly messaging their friends. While this all is very convenient and enjoyable, it makes us wonder…What would it be like if we all put down our phones and computers for a week and really lived life, a life outside of the confines of a cyber world. Maybe if we did this, we would be able to hold a conversation face to face without the risk of feeling uncomfortable. We wouldn’t have to wait for the delay of technology to keep us feeling secure in replies. Maybe, we wouldn’t all hide behind the mask of “a profile”. Maybe more people would be genuine and more honorable. We are all fans of technology and how much easier it makes life, however, we do feel that if individuals were less dependent on it, we would live a much more ‘real’ world. Our purpose it to expose the true colors of technology, in order to answer the question; are we too dependent of technology? Motivation The motivation factor which made us decide on the topic of this thesis is...

Modernization and Dependency Theory

...Examine the debates between modernization and dependency theory. Which one is more compelling? This essay will analyze the definitions of modernisation and dependency theory, the similarities and differences between them and it will evaluate which one is more convincing. Modernization is an imposing theory around many different disciplines for the reason that it attempts to explain how society develops and what variables are involved in the development and how society react to these changes looking at internal factors such as social and cultural structures. As Diana Kendall mentions, "Urbanization accompanied modernization and the rapid process of industrialization." (Kendall 2007) Modernization theory has developed in three different parts; the first part appeared in the 1950s and 1960s, when the dominance of materialistic western, individualist culture and individual achievement became the influential and dominant way of life during this period of time. The second part of modernization theory is part of the “idea of progress” that was accepted in the 1980s with the thought of people themselves could develop and transform their society. The last part of modernization theory takes place in the 1990s and it tries a more neutral approach without being in favor or against western modernization. Rather it attempts to expose the disagreements in the modernization process and to explain the consequences of modernity for individuals in contemporary society (Giddens, 1991a, 1991b)...

Modernization and Dependency Theory Paper

...Abstract Over the past hundreds of years our world went through many social and economical changes. After the birth of the industrialized society, our world economical growth was fast. Many scholars and researchers have been trying to understand why the developing nations are still under developed. The modernization and Dependency theories will explain some of our world socio-economic differences between the developing and developed countries. This essay discussed about the major differences between Modernization and Dependency theories, and their impact on the developing nations. Modernization Theory A theory designed to explain the process of modernizing societies. The theory considers the internal factors of development of any country, based on the installation, that the "traditional" countries may be involved in the development the same way as are the developed countries. According to Gavrov (2005), modernization theory endeavors to recognize the social variables, which add to social development and expansion of society, and will attempt to elucidate the procedure of social development. At the same time Gavrov (2005) stated that none of the scientists does not deny the process of modernization of society (the transition from traditional to industrial society), the theory itself has undergone considerable criticism from both Marxists and the representatives of free-market ideas, and supporters of the theory depend on the reason that is a simplified representation of...

How Could Age Dependency Ration Influence the Savings and Following Capital Outflow

...How Could Age Dependency Ration Influence The Savings And Following Capital Outflow. Introduction. The aim of my work it to analyze how the age dependency ration influences the saving. According to the definition of the World Bank, Age dependency ratio is the ratio of dependents-people younger than 15 or older than 64--to the working-age population--those ages 15-64. So the questions of my research is to find out how the quantity of pre-working-aged children and retired influences the saving per capita. Would people save more in their working age in order to save money for retirement period or to invest -or they will earn and spend. Another issue is to see if countries with huge level of GDP( China, the USA) have the different extent of ADR influence on savings and how it is differ from Russia and ,for instance, Brazil. This problem is actual and important because nowadays countries face the problem of capital outflow . As we can see from the current statistics databases, there were such demographical crisis since the 1950 , especially in Asian countries and because they are mostly overpopulated, it has an impact on the world situation in general. According to the theoretical economic models, Investment=Savings, so if I define what impact have demographical structure of population on saving per capita I could predict the future saving and investment in countries using the obtained results of influence. The model. To define, what could also has the impact on savings and...

Leadership

... We can clearly see these tools in action when Employee Three is selected to lead the team for a project because of their ability to get the team eager, excited, and motivated. Power and dependence go hand in hand. According to Robbins and Judge, “the most important aspect of power is that it is a function of dependence” (2013, p. 417). The more dependent one is of something, the more power that thing will has over them; furthermore, if what you have is important, scarce, and non-substitutable, then the dependency will increase. In the example given, we see a relationship with dependence and power between Employee One and the Marketing Manager. Employee One is dependent on the Marketing Manager in order to receive a superior rating on their evaluation, and in turn, the manager uses this power over them to get a better and longer performance out of them. This corresponds with the non-substitutable because Employee One has no other choice. Another example of dependency and power and their effects can be seen between Employee Two and the Accounting Manager. Because of...

...LET1 Task 317.1.5-10, 11 Craig Bailey ( 000217808 ) Western Governors University Section A of this task asks to describe each of the 5 bases of power from the given scenario supported by examples. It should be noted that the 5 bases are split into to 2 primary power base types. Legitimacy, Reward and Coercive all belong in the Formal power type. The second power type is Personal power. The Expert and Referent bases fall into this category. Each power base is described below. 1. Reward is where a person expects a positive response to an action performed. The response can be praise, time off, monetary, or anything else the person values as a reward. In our scenario the manager is offering the prospect of a yearly bonus through a superior rating for those who work more than 40 hours per week. Employee 1 values that reward and puts forth the effort in hopes that his or her performance will meet the goal of a superior rating. 2. The second base of power to discuss is Legitimacy. Employee 1's manager has reminded the subordinates of the yearly bonus and Employee 1 acknowledges that if he or she wants to get the bonus and go on a vacation, he or she must follow the recommendation by the manager to work additional hours in the hope that he or she will obtain a superior rating from the manager. Additionally, Employee 3 received legitimacy from being selected to lead the sales team on his or her project to increase sales. 3. The third base of power is Coercive. Employee 2 has...

Dependency

...Nowadays, do people not consider something to be official to Facebook? Is society capable of functioning without a computer? The words in the following paragraphs will give the evidence of how computers are dictating our lives. There are pros from computer usage, they simply make life easier and give us new ways to learn about the things that interest us. No longer do teachers have to decipher the chicken scratch handwritten text of a student. We can also shop online, keep in touch with others through social sites, and even go to school online. Who do you know that doesn’t own a cell phone? Are we able to imagine our communication system without computers? Banks and financial systems rely heavily on computers to function daily. Is this dependency that we have grown accustomed to a good thing? There are also a number of cons for computers, despite their benefits. Many teachers would rather have typed assignments instead of a hand written one, which can have harmful effect on a student’s ability to truly know the correct grammar or spelling since most programs have grammar and spelling checks. In fact, more times than not, these grammar and spell checks do not actually give the right suggestions. When in the process of learning, the computer should be left out of the classroom instead of being the brain for us. Another case against computers would be when a person’s interest in computers goes as far as becoming an obsession. Having a life outside of...

Let 1 Task 3

...LET1 Task 3 Influence someone has over another is known as power. Power can be good or bad depending on how it is used. If power is used wisely it can help an organization. Used poorly, however, power can be detrimental to those involved. There are five bases of power and all are seen in the given scenario. These five bases can be divided into two main forms of power. The first form of power “is based on an individual’s position in an organization” (Robbins & Judge, 2007, p. 471), this is also known as formal power. This form of power encompasses three of our five bases of power. The first that is included is a fear based power known as coercive power. The second is based on rewards and acknowledgement and is known as reward power. The final base covered in the first group is legitimate power. Legitimate power is created by a specific title or position within an organization. The second form of power is personal power, and encompasses the remaining two bases of power. The first base of power covered under personal power is expert power. Having skills or knowledge that someone else does not is expert power. The last base of power is referent power. “Referent power develops out of admiration of another and a desire to be like that person,” (Robbins & Judge, 2007, p. 472). All individuals possess a degree of personal power. As mentioned previously, all five bases of power are represented within the given scenario. Coercive power, the first base of power, is presented...

Short Story the Dependents

...LeeAnn Witman Professor Cockeran English 101-21 9 October 2013 Life to death: Dependent to Dependent “Seeing the two corpses, he went up to the stand, and put his own forehead ready for the blow.” “And all that day his eyes were dimmed by a haze, and he could not even see his own fingers” (65). How did Zoltov see the death of his animals in relation to his own? Did the lives of the dog and the horse parallel Zoltov’s own life? Was the decision to go to his niece’s house a turning point in his life? And how did the killing of the animals represent the death of Zoltov’s life as he always knew it to be? The above quote takes place at the end of Chekhov’s short story titled “The Dependents”. The reader can surmise that it was placed particularly in that position as it represented the end of the animal’s lives as well as the present life of Zoltov. When first reading of the story, the reader can easily mistake that the title of the story was referring only to the animals that were owned by Zoltov and also dependent upon him. But after one takes a deeper look at the similarities between the lives of Zoltov, the dog and the horse in the story, the reader can plainly see that each of the three main characters are dependent upon each other, and there is ultimately an interdependency between Zoltov and the animals. When the reader looks at the similarities in the descriptions of all three as being “decrepit” (59), “solitary” (59), and that all three are hungry, poor...

Critical Path Analysis

...Critical Path Analysis (CPA) is a project management tool that: • Sets out all the individual activities that make up a larger project. • Shows the order in which activities have to be undertaken. • Shows which activities can only take place once other activities have been completed. • Shows which activities can be undertaken simultaneously, thereby reducing the overall time taken to complete the whole project. • Shows when certain resources will be needed – for example, a crane to be hired for a building site. In order to construct a CPA, it is necessary to estimate the elapsed time for each activity – that is the time taken from commencement to completion. Then the CPA is drawn up based on dependencies such as: • The availability of labour and other resources • Lead times for delivery of materials and other services • Seasonal factors – such as dry weather required in a building project Once the CPA is drawn up, it is possible to see the CRITICAL PATH itself – this is a route through the CPA, which has no spare time (called ‘FLOAT’ or ‘slack’) in any of the activities. In other words, if there is any delay to any of the activities on the critical path, the whole project will be delayed unless the firm makes other changes to bring the project back on track. The total time along this critical path is also the minimum time in which the whole project can be completed. Some branches on the CPA may have FLOAT, which means that there is some spare time available...
