Scholar, Derrick Bell argues that racism is permanence that faces the bottom of the well. From an early childhood Bell seemed to have questions about slavery but never received a straight answer. Slavery wasn’t discussed in black community, and was hardly brought up in conversations due to the fact that it was too impacting to blacks at that time. The reason behind slavery wasn’t really discussed because of the exonerating of slaveholders so it was best to leave it alone. The assumptions is that racism is or isn't apart of American society. Some believed that racism still to this day carry the burden from the past. But racial inequality still exists in America society. The fact of the matter is that America wouldn't have become the place it is now without help of slaves. Most American treat blacks in harsh way either in school, work, or life in general. Even though slavery ended in 1863, blacks had to fight their way in every situation being that getting a job or getting an education. Blacks had a lot to overcome and now that we slowly are out of the hole we still have to prove ourselves to Corporate America. Derrick Bell argues that racism is still alive while; Dinesh D’Souza disagreed with him and said that it does not exist. Overall they both are right racism is still alive even though you may not see it or hear it, but it runs free like the wind and also plays a role in some people actions towards one another. “If all racial discrimination were abolished today, the life prospects facing many poor blacks would still constitute major challenges for public policy (David, 1989).” Most importantly racism may not care the weight it did during the time of slavery, but it still carry the sting with the way it is said and or
