Describe To The Developmental Challenges Of Kelsey's Development

My client for this week is 46 years old Kelsey Jeong. Since our last counseling session, Kelsey and her husband Jin adopted twin, girls. Kelsey admits that Jin never seemed to think adoption was the correct path, but eventually gave in to his wife’s wishes. During the twin’s childhood Kelsey quit her teaching job in order to be a full-time mom. With the twins grown and now off to college, Kelsey was looking forward to rekindling the romance with her husband. Therefore, Kelsey was shocked to discover that her husband Jin was not only leaving her, but in a relationship with a younger woman. Kelsey now feels lost, confused and unsure how to cope with these new developments (Laureate Education 2013e) Developmental Challenges

(Henning, 2011). During an individual’s journey into adulthood, the individual will experience challenges, traumas, victories and defeats (Henning, 2011). After talking to Kelsey briefly, challenges I believe she is experiencing are empty nest syndrome as well as issues regarding her divorce from her husband Jin. One of the developmental challenge or issues I believe that Kelsey is experiencing is empty nest syndrome. During her marriage with Jin it was very important for Kelsey to have children, she placed value one herself as a women on her ability to have children. Now, that her twin girls are grown and off to college Kelsey may start to feel as if she is losing part of her identity. According to Liu and Guo (2007) the loneliness of the empty nest may be more profound for people in more interdependent cultures. While Kelsey considers herself Americanized, some aspects of her heritage still clearly plays a role in daily life, such as the importance of having children.
