Garry Jefferson hated his stay-at-home job. Day in and day out, he read and re-read essays written by illiterates hoping to scrape up a grade in his Psychology class. Fortunately, he never saw the acne pocked faces of the students he graded, and he could only imagine the facial horrors that roamed Blue River Community College’s halls. Blue River was a small town in central Colorado, inhabited by filthy rich old folk, and their grandchildren. The streets were clean, but the buildings that flanked the pavement were as dirty as could be. Inside the stone monoliths existed drug operations, brothels, cult gatherings, you name it. The Terror let out a small giggle, sounding like an innocent schoolgirl. Garry’s head snapped up, and The Terror moved quickly into the hall, and shut the light off so Garry wouldn’t see its feet as it fled. It opened the floor elevator, and entered, pressing one long thin appendage into a button on the elevator panel. The doors slid shut, and it leaned against the back wall, breathing a heavy, rattling sigh. The doors slided open, revealing a dark lobby, illuminated only by the street light that poured in through its glass doors. It sprinted through the lobby, leg after leg taking two meter strides, its black legs seemingly stretching infinitely into the darkness. The Terror hit the doors full force, but went right through like a ghostly apparition, moving through the door’s glass pane without damaging it. It took to the streets, looking up and down Main Street, which was lit up by dimming yellow street lamps. It began to sprint again, down the right of Main Street, and leaving an inky black trail behind it as it ran. However it’s run for freedom was short lived, and The Terror immediately disappeared in a plume of black smoke as it hit the town’s
