...The winter sky smothered the earth with a spotless white blanket. I shivered, tightening my lint infected hoodie around my torso. A wave of excitement and fear rushed through me all at once, like a torrent of emotions throwing me overboard. Joe had to be here soon, the more I thought of her the more I began to sweat. I pushed my thoughts aside and look at the sky above which was overflowing with tumultuous, dark, ragged clouds. Cars weaved their way around everyone, their frustrated horns echoing in my ears. The traffic was like a never-ending row of dominoes. Frost covered the edges of the windows in the shops and snow was falling gently from the gloominess, clouded sky. The crowd rushed past me, like a swarm of bees and died away. It was bitter and cold, my teeth clattered and my body quivered as a gust of wind swept past me. The clouds coughed out great gouts of white cotton balls and balloons of sopping moisture. It was an unending cataract of snow sluicing from the sky. People were grumbling and walked by heads down, scarves pulled up, the snow was incessant. I clutched my umbrella like it was the only thing I had had left in this world. The clouds were frail and angel-white now, emptying the buckets of large flakes over us. I heard loud footsteps, sloshing in a small puddle rain that was left by the tap slowly dripping, I whipped around. Joe was here, I sighed in relief, the mission had arisen for the gang Joe, Sept and I. Months of planning and spying was going to spring...

...The forest that surrounded me was like the Garden of Eden benefiting to all the inhabitants. The water on top of the leaves stayed there until a strong breeze wooshed by and rhythmically dropping on the forest floor. The treetops represents Atlas, carrying all the weight of the damp leaves on its trunk. The sun rising in the distance ahead was crafted beautifully by Vulcan, setting the sky on fire that warmed the air. The car passing, Brutus, betrayed the natural silence of the growing forest, The swift stream of the creek delivering dead leaves to the pond at the end of the creek like Hermes sending messages to Hades. The dog bark in the distance irritates the forest in its past accomplishment of a lullaby throughout the whole forest. God weaved through the trees and under the leaves giving life to the whole forest by just his breath. The smell of the wet leaves makes up the forest that you can smell from miles away that makes you feel at home, the animals home of the hole in the tree trunks and the burrows in the forest ground. Pearl Harbor was amidst the forest. Geese, essential to nature, zooming over the treetops, honking loudly; squirrels scattering, semiconscious, scavenging for sustainable shelter, thinking they are being attacked from above. People wonder why the birds chirp in synchrony, maybe after the influence of Mozart? My interpretation for the perplex people of society, is to not interrogate the natural allurement of nature, but relish nature for as long...

...the lake is still and calm as a dense fog drifts slowly like molasses across the smooth surface. it smells like fresh dirt and mineral water from the recent rainfall with the slightest hint of of something you can’t put your finger on… something that is decomposing maybe. faint sounds emanate from the center of the circular body… sounds like the bubbles surfacing in a thick concoction. closer to the lake the smell becomes clearer, definitely something rotting. the water is ice cold and it feels like something under the surface is going to take hold at any minute - something you can’t see. suddenly there is something that surfaces - probably a fish - but in the mere second it is there a shiny gold object can be seen attached to the thing; something...

...My Room When walking through the door you have arrived at my home, the place where I eat, sleep, invite friends and just generally be. Before noticing any smell, decoration or furniture it is likely that you will be welcomed by my one year old pug. The first room where I spend most of my time, the living room and kitchen, is rectangular with sand colored tile and four white walls all naked except for a glass clock with black dots marking each hour. Still standing in the door, trying to zone out my pug which loves attention, you will see an ivory-white legged dining table with a jet-black glass top converted to my working desk and next to it a white stuffed chair with black legs. In the middle of the room is a black, leather clad sofa with an adjustable back. Although it looks flat and uncomfortable, sitting down you will feel it is soft enough to sleep on. In front of the sofa is a non-peculiar white coffee table, just big enough to house a couple of glasses, a book and some snacks. On the opposite side of the sofa is a flat-screen TV resting on one of those IKEA TV compartments, this one being brown colored and without doors. Sitting in the sofa, to your right, is a big basket made from rotting wood filled with books, mostly fictional crime or thrillers, a few months’ worth of Vanity Fairs and chargers to various devices in my belonging. After this, behind a glass wall and door is my kitchen. Looking straight ahead is the room’s only window, big and wide enough to light up the...

...It was a Saturday morning, I rolled out of bed still half way asleep, my Mommy had gone to school and I was starving so I tiptoed downstairs to get some cereal. My sister was glaring at the T.V watching ICarly, I glided to the kitchen and picked up a bar stool. I took one step, then BAMMM!! All I heard was my Sister and myself screeching. We raced up the stairs to get my Mommy's boyfriend at the time. As we flew upstairs I was bleeding so much it made the carpet look as if you were splatter painting it. He arose out of bed and examined it, we called my Mommy and she rushed home as soon as her class was over. When she came home, she rushed me to the hospital, when we got there I was sobbing. We had to wait for 2 1/2 hours, the lady in the front...

...1 PM The fierce sun beat upon the seemingly never ending Mediterranean sea, reflecting the light into a blinding patch of shine. The sea was calm, pulsing rhythmically and breathing with cadence. Just off the shore he floated, motionless, his black mop of hair the only visible spec in the blue, bobbing up and down with every breath the sea took. Above his jade and olive complexion his face washed pale red from the unforgiving sun and the tips of his black hair begun to tinge grey. From the shoulders down his body was beneath the water, kept afloat by a life jacket. The water, although calm and peaceful was carefully wrecking his body apart; limb by limb, organ by organ. His fingernails had begun to tender and were now peeling back and his lips were rough and cracked. Beneath his clothes, his skin was raw. His entire body riddled with gaping sores leaving him liable to a whole catalogue of infections. The pressure of the water on his feeble body was reducing circulation and made breathing a gruelling ask. And finally and most significantly beneath the milky water were a family of ocean creatures who could definitely sense the blood off his oozing sores. He was so close to Heaven. He had been swimming aimlessly for the past 4 days and after thirst and hunger set in, exhaustion took its toll and there he floated; victim to the current and where it would take him. The fish boat he was travelling in capsized 2 days prior, toppling over and smothering him and the 150+ people he was...

... This is the place on which, years ago, I fell. It is the place where my corpse was covered with cold, dry, dirt and left to decompose. I, however, am not entirely gone. I know this because I can hear the sounds that occasionally pierce the muffled silence above my grave: the icy clang of a shovel against hard rock, the shy crackle of a footstep pressing lifeless grass, and the dismal cries of those who have come to mourn. These sounds do not come often, so most of the time, I brood in silence. Not many inhabitants of the living world care to be as dismal as I, so they avoid the place where sorry corpses dwell. When I was alive, they told me I would go to heaven. They, however did not know of my atrocities. As a living man, I was convinced that my sins would reach me in hell, but I was mistaken. I have remained in the same place for years. Though my body has decomposed, it seems that my soul has not. Can this existence be called life? Can it even be called death? I do not know the answers to these questions, but I am certain that something is holding my soul down below the earth. Perhaps it is the weight of my heart, which, even in life, carried a burden so great we must not speak of it. Now, a pair of shoes crunches slowly over the ground above. In my state, I cannot see, but I can imagine a well worn pair of boots. The leisurely trudge of each step suggests the wearer of these boots to be a man of cold patience. Given the...

...catch shoplifters. Through the street, a shorter Asian man wearing a stylish black suit and glasses hurried along. He suddenly stopped halting right next to the tall young man. His brown eyes quickly searched back and forth across the street, looking left and right. What was interesting was the boy in front of the vegetable stand didn't exactly show up on camera. As soon as the man was out of sight, he turned around and began following him. The young man appeared to be twenty-two with black hair, and a wiry but muscular build. His skin was a light but medium color; while his face was long with a strong jaw and high cheekbones. His eyes were a beautiful light blue color. Alec Lightwood was dressed in a simple black t-shirt, with cursive writing all across the front, a dark black vest, dark blue-black jeans, and black sneakers. He also wore black fingerless gloves. Slung over his right shoulder was a dark brown leather quiver satchel which held a variety of arrows which peeked out, crimson red. The arrows themselves were a black onyx color, while the ends, made of pure adamas, each marked with a special rune. The metal was a silver white color, its touch felt smooth as glass but glowed and was slightly warmer and a little heavier. He continued to the follow the Asian man into the lit street. The man turned around for a moment, to look again behind him, but the young man who was following him had suddenly vanished into thin air. Alec still was following him but from the rooftop...

...I awake on an island to a cool, steady breeze blowing ever-so gently across my face--the sun shining brightly down onto my chilled body, warming my every nerve. The soft mooing of a herd of cattle can be heard off in the distance, carried by the wind across the rolling green landscape laid out beautifully before my glittering azure eyes. I climb slowly to my feet, my eyes and ears practically drinking in the environment around me. I can hear the birds chirping in the magnificent oak trees swaying high above, their branches extending over the lush landscape--welcoming and providing shelter for all travelers who come. I walk through the landscape admiring all around until I come upon a herd of cattle grazing on the luscious grass that covers every inch of the enriching island. The animals were like no others that I seen--not different, but seemingly elegant and prestigious. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I notice movement along the top of the hill line. A group of maybe fifteen or so men charge down toward the herd, long swords in hand, the sharp points pointed directly at the cattle. I run straight into the trees, using the low-hanging branches as cover to hide myself. I stop behind a dense-leaved shrub and watch the bloody massacre play out before me. The men scatter in all directions and one-by-one, cut the herd down like a hot knife through butter. Then I see it, the sign of Helios, the god of the sun, branded onto the cattles’ hindquarters. A gasp escapes through my mouth...

...Carl is walking through the package hub where he has worked for twenty years. His only concern is getting out of the building and to his car. He pays no attention to the thousands of rollers and hundreds of conveyer belts and human workers placed ten, twenty, thirty feet above him. He does not hear the continuous drive of machinery that creates a terrible symphonic sound, for which this ensemble includes the high pitched buzz of thousands of little silver rollers spinning, along with the accompaniment of the low hum of black rubber conveyer belts grinding, pushing, and pulling thousands of brown parcels through the system. The equipment produces a redolence of the sharp, metallic smell of electrical voltage coursing like blood through the arteries of the equipment. Step after step Carl drives his slim, fit, forty year old body which is clad in jeans, and a tee shirt through the structure of metal and concrete. His steel-toe, leather work boots push harder as his feet strike the solid grey floor. He is thumping along, keeping his gaze down and looking up only when he feels the presence of a co-worker getting too close. Carl hardly notices as he passes the docks the rush of air from outside which is circulating the smell of paper dust, diesel exhaust, grease, oil, and human sweat. He gives no interest to the voices of the dock supervisors and the human loaders yelling obscenities and grunting under the weight of their labor. Even the hissing of air brakes and the shudder...

...Another high risk day to turn up to work. High speed winds picked up this morning, I staggered into the Fire station today with sand grazing my already dry and flaky skin. When I finally sat down and got to work I was relieved but that feeling didn't last long. Thissig rrrerrk! A painful ear piercing noise came out of the loudspeaker as it was turned on causing everyone to cringe."Emergency!, major bushfire in Great Forest National Park. Arrival on Second Street, we need our strongest crew." Headquarters announced urgently. "Stella your with Scott, Rachel, Ben, George and Robert in fire engine one" My boss, Steven ordered. Steven's words turned into mumbles as all of my negative thoughts exited my mind. I focused on my mission, I knew exactly what I had to do. "Second Street is on the next exit" I informed Scott. Scott Accelerated as rich thick smoke burnt his nostrils. Clouds of dark, thick smoke billowed over the mountains like an explosion." Roll the windows up" Rachel demanded. It was too late the toxic ash permeated the last breathable air. Lit embers singed my skin. The choking smoke was asphyxiating to my lungs."This is the most catastrophic bushfire we've seen in decades." Headquarters notified through the static radio. We make it to the hopeless, collapsing scene. We gathered around in a linked circle. "Rachel and Ben connect the hoses, George and Robert inspect the area, and Stella and I will Prepare our vehicle for emergency. The hoses gushed an endless stream of...
