In the present paper, Piper betle leaves were standardized for stomatal index, vein islet and vein termination numbers, palisade ratio, UV fluorescence and different ash values. The Piper betle leaves are earlier reported to possess anticancer potential. Hence, the aqueous extract of the leaves was subjected to cytotoxicity studies on Hep-2 cell line using MTT and SRB assays. The mean CTC50 was found to be 96.25 µg/mL, which proved the potent cytotoxicity and hence, the probable anticancer property of the selected extract. Besides the volatility of spot and future crude oil barrel returns time series, the hedge ratio strategy is examined through the hedge effectiveness. Thus this study shows hedge strategies built using methodologies applied in the variance modelling of returns of crude oil prices in the spot and future markets, and covariance between these two market returns, which correspond to the inputs of the hedge strategy shown in this work. From the studied models the bivariate GARCH in a Diagonal VECH and BEKK representations was chosen, using three different models for the mean: a bivariate autoregressive, a vector autoregressive and a vector error correction. The methodologies used here take into consideration the denial of assumptions of homoscedasticity and normality for the return distributions making them more realistic. Biogas fuel production from blends of biological wastes such as Cow rumen liquor (CL), Poultry droppings (PD), and Goat Faeces (GF) with Maize cobs (M) were studied. 20 g of each inoculum was mixed with 100g of degraded maize cobs in the first three digesters while the fourth contained CL 10g, PD 10 g, and M 100 g. 100 g of M alone in the fifth digester served as the control. The blends were subjected to anaerobic digestion for 10 days on the prevailing atmospheric ambient temperature and pressure conditions. Physiochemical properties of the blends such as moisture content, crude protein, ash, fat, crude fibre, carbohydrate content, C/N ratio, and pH were also determined. Results of the daily performances of each system showed that maize cobs (M) alone had cumulative biogas yield of 1.50 cm3 while those of the blends (MCL, MPD, MGF and MCLPD) were 6.11 cm3, 3.05 cm3, 2.50 cm3, and 63.00 cm3 respectively, pH and C/N ratio affected the biogas yield of the systems significantly. The fish stock population was 90 adult red Nile tilapia (RNT) males which were acclimated for 10 days in concrete indoor tanks supplied with well-aerated tap water before the commencement of the experiment. The RNT was considered a different breed of red tilapia since it was purely developed from Nile Tilapia. The source of fish was from Philfish Gen, Freshwater Aquaculture Center (FAC), Central Luzon State University (CLSU), Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija. It was first transferred to Swansea, United Kingdom then eventually to FAC, CLSU. Feeding rate was 4% of their body weight using pellet feed (Feedmix Nutrition Specialist Inc.®) containing 50% crude protein, 6% crude fat and 7% crude fiber. Feeding was administered twice; one in the morning (0800 h) and another in the afternoon (1400 h). Experimental Compartment. There were eighteen units of rectangular aquaria used throughout the experiment. All glass aquaria have the same size that measures 30 x 15 x30cm. Three sides of each isolation aquarium were covered with white paper to avoid the isolated fish from seeing other fish during the isolation period. Confinement Stressor.
