The present study was undertaken to assess the relationship between the Levels of Consciousness, the Psychological Well being, and the Personality typologies. The levels of consciousness Inventory were developed as part of the study. Subjects (N=100) from the student and general population were identified. Subjects belonged to two groups. 1st group consisted of subjects in the age range of 20 – 25. 2nd group consisted of subjects in the age range of 25 – 75. Psychological well being (Bhogle and Prakash, 1995), Gita Inventory (Das, 1987) questionnaires were administered on 100 subjects.
An inventory to assess the levels of consciousness was developed. This inventory consists of 90 items representing the chakras / levels of consciousness such as ‘Mooladhara chakra’ / 1st level of consciousness; ‘Swadishthana chakra’ / 2nd level of consciousness; ‘Manipura chakra’ / 3rd level of consciousness; ‘Anahata chakra’/ 4th level of consciousness; ‘Vishudha chakra’ / 5th level of consciousness and ‘Ajna chakra’ / 6th level consciousness.
The subjects were administered the above mentioned questionnaires along with the levels of consciousness inventory. The relationship between the levels of consciousness, Psychological well being and personality typologies were assessed. The subjects of the two age groups- 20 -25 years and 25 – 75 years were compared on the levels of consciousness inventory.
Results indicate that there is no significant relationship (‘r’ value ) between levels of consciousness and the Psychological Well being; no significant relationship was found between the levels of consciousness and the personality typologies.
Results show a highly significant inter- relationship (‘r’ value ) among the levels of consciousness.
Examination of the results also reveals there is a significant difference in the levels of consciousness (‘r’ value ) between age groups (20 -25 and 25- 75 years). No significant difference was found in the psychological Well being between the two age groups (20 – 25 and 25 – 75 years). An inverse relationship was found in the Personality typologies between the two age groups (20 – 25 and 25 – 75 years). Further the limitations of the study, importance of the study and suggestions for further research is also given.
