Devyn’s speech was persuading the audience to realize that the drinking age in America should be lowered. He argued that if the drinking age were lowered there would be less binge drinking, which is extremely prevalent on college campuses. I think that his topic was relevant to his audience because college students do drink over the weekend, even if they are underage, and they need to be made aware of the dangers that come with binge drinking. Also, he argued that if the drinking age were lowered, there would not be a need to binge drink because people would be educated at young age on the correct and safe way to consume alcohol. One reason he took this viewpoint is because he is from a country, Thailand I think he said, were the drinking age is lower and binge drinking is not a problem. One area in which Devyn excelled was in the main points he made to persuade his audience.…show more content… One of his more interesting points was when he spoke on the 18th and 21st amendments; the 18th amendment prohibiting alcohol and the 21st repealing the 18th. This was one of his strong arguments because he made a point to say that at the age of 18, men are drafted in the military and are able to die for their country but cannot buy and enjoy a beer, legally. This point, to me, was the strongest because when I lived in Turkey, the base legal age was 18. Normally when people live on Air Force bases overseas, the base follow the laws that America has established. His next strongest point was when he compared countries like Italy and Germany to America. In this point, Devyn stated that those two countries had a low drinking age but because alcohol is not taboo and parents speak to their children, they do not have a serious binge-drinking
