Comparative Diagnostic Analysis

...My specific contributions to the ODD project were to provide a comparative diagnostic analysis covering DSM-IV-TR and DSM V criteria. The symptoms did change a little between the two and in the DSM V the criteria is broken down into sub-classifications which are angry-irritable mood, argumentative/defiant behavior, and vindictiveness. This change highlights that the disorder reflects both emotional and behavioral symptomatology. Also for the DSM V the sub-classifications need to be happening for at least six months as evidenced by at least four symptoms from any of the following categories, and exhibited during interaction with at least one individual who is not a sibling, compared to the DSM-IV-TR where, a pattern of negativistic, hostile,...

Diagnostic Paper on Joan Crawford

...Diagnostic Paper on Joan Crawford Abnormal Psychology Dr. Lewis Ethical Disclaimer In writing this, I am attempting to demonstrate an awareness of ethical practice. In preparation of writing this paper, I have researched information on the famous person indicated in an effort to make an attempt at providing a possible diagnosis of a psychological condition for which two theoretical orientations will be evaluated and used to support what is only an opinion. I am in no way qualified to give a diagnosis for the people mentioned within this document as it is a document written to demonstrate an understanding of educational material as it relates to the field of psychology. Any information mentioned with regard to the mental condition of the people in this document does not imply that they have any of the conditions mentioned nor have they consented to any kind of psychological treatment. Background Information Among Hollywood’s trailblazing women in film was Joan Crawford who represented not only well-earned stardom but who also took the lead in paving her way during the transformation of women’s roles after the turn of the century including the Roaring Twenties and Prohibition. Joan Crawford acted in musical revues, was a flapper during the Roaring Twenties, acted in silent films, was among the first actresses in the first ‘talkie’ films, and climbed her way to the top of the cinema ranks becoming one of the most famous movie stars of all time (“American Legends...

...Whether Aereo’s Transmissions to Individual Subscribers is “Public”? Strategic Issues and Problems According to the case, Hearst is appealing that its competitor Aereo poses a threat to over-the-air broadcast services by using contrived technology to free-ride on WCVB’s substantial investment in its copyrighted programming. At the first of glance, the argument appears to be somewhat convincing, but further reflection reveals that Hearst’s appealing is not consolidating as it stands. There is no solid evidence that can proof the current strategy of Aereo using is unlawfully distributing its signal. Evaluation and Analysis The essence of the conflict between Aereo and Hearst is whether Aereo infringes copyright by publicly performing television shows without a license. Hearst sued that Aereo retransmits performances of copyrighted programs to members of the public through internet and mobile device streaming which infringes Hearst’s copyrighted programming. Consequently, Hearst will be deprived of existing and potential revenue streams from advertising and authorized retransmissions. On the other hand, Aereo argued that its streams are not “public” performance, because Aereo captures the content from the airwaves through thousands of tiny antennas in local warehouse. In addition, Aereo doesn’t transmit anything but it is instead their subscribers who are doing it. Therefore the transmissions are not public performances and so do not infringe Hearst’s copyrights. Academic Diagnostic

...Academic Diagnostic During the enrollment process I completed the academic diagnostic test that tested current writing and reading skills. It has been about ten years since I last completed any test. My anxiety level due to the testing experience on a scale 1-5, 5 being the highest, was 4. My anxiety level being as high as it was, was not only due to the amount of time that I have been out of school, even though that played a major factor, but also because I have never done very well taking any test, whether I study or not. During tests, I get panic-stricken and freeze up, fearful of answering wrong and receiving a discouraging grade. It usually doesn’t matter if the test is just a knowledge test or a test that I studied for, or how long I studied for it; I still tend to get stressed, especially if the answer options are multiple choices. I have always done better answering questions that are given by explanation from memory, like writing a paragraph or answering in my own words. Choosing from multiple choices, I read too much into the test questions and tend to over think the answers, second and third guessing my first. Furthermore, my mind goes blank and anything that I know or studied, dematerialize. Once the test is over and I’ve had the chance to review the questions that were on the test and the answers that I gave, I feel foolish and upset with myself, particularly if I didn’t do well, because I know that I could have done better if I didn’t get distressed...

Diagnostic Deception

...Diagnostic Deception In the past 10 years, the United States has been experiencing a medical epidemic of frightening proportion, taking place primarily in children. Cases of a psychiatric deficiency known as Attention Deficit Disorder, or “ADD,” have been popping up in young kids and teenagers all over the country. What’s causing this? The American Psychiatric Association, often referred to as the “APA,” claims that the disorder has always been this prevalent, but it was only recently discovered, hence the increasing number of diagnoses, but there seems to be more to this “disorder” than meets the eye. As the number of cases continues to grow, many believe that the number of people with ADD is actually unchanging, and is in fact, zero. While the APA would like you to think otherwise, ADD and ADHD are fictitious disorders. The cause for question in this conversation of the reality of Attention Deficit Disorder has many aspects. Of them, are the facts that ADD and ADHD are only recognized as psychiatric disorders in the United States of America, the suspicious timing of the entrance of these disorders into the APA’s psychiatric journal: the DSM, and the pharmaceutical industry’s role in treatment. These factors, some big, some small, build the often criticized argument against the authenticity of ADD and ADHD as mental disorders. The United States has been home to many unique and wonderful things, but rarely is any one country the sole victim of a disease, let alone one...

Specifically, according to the DSM-V, there are multiple diagnostic criteria that a patient affected with supposed bulimia nervosa needs to meet in order to ultimately be classified with this type of disorder (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Bulimia nervosa is characterized through recurrent episodes of binge eating and carrying out inappropriate...

Self Diagnostic

...Self-Diagnostic Essay Assignment Self-Diagnostic Essay Assignment I was told that the truth and only the truth will set you free and I am far from a J.K. Rowling or a William Shakespeare when it comes to writing. If the Olympics had writing as an event and I was for some odd reason competing in that event. My country will be highly disappointed with my efforts on winning. I have more weaknesses then strengths when it comes to writing, that is why I decided to take this course so I can enhance my writing abilities to reach my goals this semester. One word to describe my health as a writer will be obese. I consider my health as a writer to be obese just for the simple fact that I’m so lazy when it comes to writing. Procrastination is like a permanent disease when I know I have a paper due. It will take me two to three days to start a paper. I have a hard time figuring out the words to express the base of my topic. To be honest it took me my whole weekend trying to get an idea on how I was going to write this essay. My brain will sit there in a daze trying to figure out what to write about then I get writers block. I’m a simple guy so when I have a paper that I need to get done I will try my best not to think or write using simple minded words because I stress so much on what my teacher or professor might think about my writing. Therefore that whole stress factor on writing makes me insecure on my writing abilities. I have never attended any writing groups. The idea...

Diagnostic Essay

...Abraham Lincoln once said, “Character is like a tree and reputation is like its shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing.” Many people could take this quotation different ways, but it means a lot more to me than words a deceased man said in his lifetime. This quote inspires me daily, and has a great significance in my life, along with many others. In the comparison of a tree to its shadow, one could think that the shadow is merely what follows the tree. If this was true according to Abraham Lincoln, the reputation of what others think of us is just something that follows our character- who we really are. As I see it, the tree and the shadow are two independent things. One person could have the reputation of being a liar, a cheater, or even not worthy of respect; just because of a mistake made in the past. He/she could have the most respectable, noteworthy character; but nobody would know because of the shadow of reputation that follows. Personally, I have experienced a lot of people looking at my shadow, and not the tree in front. I moved to Madison Comprehensive High School in the fall of 2012, and at the time it seemed like a great idea. I had family in the school, and all my friends from church went to the school, so it couldn’t be too bad. My cousin was the captain of the cheerleading team, so I spent most of my time with her and her senior friends from the football and cheerleading teams. I met one of her friends named Allen, and...
