Narrator 4 – This scene from Rick Riordan’s The Lightning Thief is taken from Chapter 19, “We Find Out the Truth, Sort of.” Percy Jackson and his friends Annabeth Chase and Grover Underwood travel to the Underworld to confront Hades.
Narrator 2 – Imagine, a football field packed with a million fans. Now, imagine a field a million times that big, packed to the brim, the electricity has gone out, and there is no noise or light. Something has happened behind the scenes, there is a sad whisper going through the crowd and millions are waiting for a concert, that will never start.
Narrator 3 – That, is what the Underworld is like.
Narrator 4 – Annabeth, Grover, and Percy try to blend into the crowd, avoiding security ghouls, and looking at the sad, confused faces of the ghosts. …show more content…
Percy – “Lord Hades, there cannot be a war among the gods it would be – bad.”
Grover – “Really bad.”
Percy – “Return Zeus’ master bolt to me so, I can carry it to Olympus.”
Narrator 2 – Hades’ eyes glowed dangerously bright.
Hades – “You dare keep up this pretense after what you have done?”
Narrator 3 – The three demigods looked confused.
Percy – “What have I done Uncle? I do not understand.”
Hades – “Do you think I want war godling? I don’t want war! That I want war would be a typical thing for my brothers to say! Have you not seen the sprawl of Asphodel Fields?! Have you any idea how my kingdom has swelled in the last century alone, how many subdivisions I’ve had to open. I’ve had to get more security ghouls, traffic problems at the Judgment Pavilion. Double overtime for the staff!”
Percy – “Charon wants a pay raise.”
Hades – “Don’t get me started on Charon! He’s been impossible ever since he discovered Italian suits! So no godling! I don’t need more subjects and I do NOT WANT WAR!”
Percy – “But, you took Zeus’ master bolt.”
Hades – “Lies!”
Narrator 2 – The whole palace shook
