Discrimination right under our noses

Discrimination may happen whenever there are many differences in religion, sexual orientation, race, or age. I know discrimination started way before Germany and the Jews but, I wanted to start at that point in time. For examples; in Germany Jews were killed for being Jews. In Soviet Union Jews and millions of others were put to death for being capitalist. (Ponte, 2001,02) Our society today is as if it was decades ago. The only difference is now, our wealthy citizens in the U.S.A are trying to kill the minorities.
My second example of discrimination is sexual orientation. There are many states that still do not accept different sexual orientation or gender identity. It is not as bad as it was years ago but, it is still a problem in our society. I stay in Michigan and according to Michigan radio.com; Michigan’s law is to prohibit discrimination. It includes protection for religion. The Elliot-Larsen civil rights act is race, color, age, sex, height weight family status, and marital status. But if your gay your out of luck. (CBS news, 2008). Everyone should be equal. Why discriminated against one another? Why is it a problem for people of different sexual orientation do what they want? They are not committing a crime and for us to categorize them (LGBT) that is very disturbing. Leslee Fritz is from the Michigan department of civil rights, and she explained; if you are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender, in Michigan you can be fired because of it, in fact, you can be fired because you are perceived to be, whether you are or not. You can be denied a place to live or kicked out of where you live. You can be denied public accommodation for example: turned away from a restaurant or a hotel. And forget if you have a lifetime partner you have been with, It doesn’t matter if you were together for two years or 25 years. If you die your partner has no rights to you or the life they made together, so everything is handled by your families unless you have a will.
The workplace is another area in life where discrimination is common. Some places have problems with the elderly and handy cap. Most places think that they can’t or won’t perform the job like they would want. Most workplaces have a range of ages of people that work there, but if you were to look at the cut off age in most work places will usually be around 55. That is most likely because people tend to think they slow down with age. Or if they have a disability they tend to shy away. I believe mostly because of fear of not knowing much about the disability at hand. We all have a certain fear of the unknown. But there are laws that are supposed to protect, but, where there is a will there is a way. They will find a legally get around the laws of discrimination, either not hire or fire someone. I believe everyone deserves their chance at anything they feel they can accomplish. Who knows they may be able to do the job better than a person that doesn’t have any disabilities.
I am strongly against discrimination regardless of what it is! Nobody deserves to be treated that way and experience this cruel manner. It’s hurtful and can cause more damage than anyone really knows on. The discriminate against the physically disabled is considered to be humiliating and dehumanization. Often a person with physically disabilities is not addressed as a sales person. The physically disabled people are often looked over as though they can’t hear the negative inflection in the voices, into the workplace. They do not that addressed someone as though they cannot comprehend or answer with efficiency, or see the disapproving glances as they enter the business establishment. The disable should feel welcome and invited into the workplace. They do not want to be pitted. They want to be recognized as if they were “normal." If they feel as though they can perform the job. Who are we to say they can’t or even try to stop them from trying? People with disabilities like to be looked as people with challenges, not a human reject. They like to be looked at in their eyes, and be addressed as a human. When it’s all said and done, we all want to be considered normal human beings. Davis, G. (Jan 30, 2010)
It is wrong to judge anyone for any reason. Rather it is the way they dress, to the religion, to their sexuality or down to their physical disability. We should never put limits on a person just because of how they look, their life style or any other differences. When we look past all the reasons behind the reason of discrimination, we are all the same. We have feelings that can hurt. We bleed the same color. I don’t see a problem with people living their lives the way they like. I can live my life no matter how the next person chooses to live theirs. It comes back to treat others how we want to be treated.I think that if we all stop the discrimination against the next person our lives would be less hurt full and more meaningful. We can live our lives without the worries of bashing and discrimination others.
