Abstract
This diet debunk will identify one popular fad diet and one popular over-the-counter weight loss product. It will explain how the diet and weight loss product work. The diet and weight loss product marketing techniques will be examined as well as providing examples of these techniques. Pros and cons will be given for the diet and weight loss program. This diet debunk will determine if the diet and weight loss program come from a reputable source. Last but not least, psychological, cultural, and social media influences that may play a role in an individual’s choice of diet and weight loss product will be examined.

Diet Debunk: Weight Loss Program vs. Weight Loss Product
The Atkins Diet has been a popular weight loss program for many years with numerous people having success losing pounds on the scale. Another way to lose weight is by using a weight loss product such as Xenadrine. The Atkins Diet and Xenadrine will be compared and contrasted in depth in several areas as well as looking at what influences people to use such methods to lose weight.
How Do They Work?
The Atkins Diet. The Atkins Diet is a low-carbohydrate diet that was developed by Dr. Robert C. Atkins in 1972. While carbohydrates are restricted, this diet stresses protein and fats. The theory behind The Atkins Diet is that when consuming too many carbohydrates, such as white flour and sugar, the body has blood sugar fluctuations that lead to weight gain. By restricting these carbohydrates, the body will then turn to burning excess fat as fuel and regulate blood sugar to help people lose weight. (Atkins, 2015) This is how the diet plan targets weight loss. The dieter must track their carbohydrate intake by keeping track of their net carbs. Net carbs are the total carbohydrate content of an item minus its fiber content. (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2011)
