Q1. Summarize, in your own words, what “digital fabrication” is and how it is different from traditional manufacturing tools and technology.

What is a digital fabrication?
Digital fabrication is the process that merges designing, construction and production that come together at one level. In other word, it is the process of translating digital design into physical objects that is tangible. Digital fabrication is going to allow individuals to design and produce tangible object and that can be by using the new technology that appears in last several years, which is the three dimensional printer along with the three dimensional software programs that help them to do their work more easily by using this technology. Digital fabrication becomes more useful in business areas because using this technology can increase the production line in inventory and that will help firms to be more efficient when they are using this technology which is (3D printer).
On the one hand, the digital fabrication adds value for the consumers. Thus, the consumer no longer needs to buy from stores because today, three dimensional printer can do for those consumers what they wants in short time of period, if they owns their three dimensional printer. As an example, if a consumer has an own 3D printer and want to design and print his or her own Mug. He or she goes through several steps. The first step is the designing which the consumer design his or her own mug using the 3D software program such as 3DVIA Shape and CityEngine. If the consumer is not comfortable with using these designing programs he or she can download the blueprint form websites that are familiar with this technology. The second steps, after the Mug had been design the consumer send a command to the 3D printer to print the Mug. The last step is the construction which is the 3D printer will begin to create the object.

How digital fabrication is different from traditional manufacturing tools and technology?
From my perspective of view, digital fabrication will replace the traditional manufacturers tools. The digital fabrication is more useful, flexible and accurate that the traditional manufacturers. Furthermore, the product in traditional manufacturing is required to go through different process and tools that cost the manufacturing time and money while in the digital fabrication, the process of producing products are easier and faster and that help the firms to make their production line more productivity and efficiency. Some traditional manufacturing is slipping to develop a complex product that is hard to achieve by using traditional tools and technology while digital fabrication can help these manufacturing to reach their goals by using the three dimensional printer and software. In addition, in the traditional manufacturing ,the industrial mass-production requires different factories, tools, and technology for every type of product while the flexibility of digital manufacturing has the ability to merge all these factories, tools, and technology of the traditional manufacturing in one tool to make almost any things.

Q2- Do you agree with the author that the digital fabrication represents the “new digital revolution? Why or Why not?
From my point of view, I totally agree with the author that the digital fabrication is revolutionary technology. The digital fabrication will become more fashionable in our day to day life. In addition, the digital fabrication will change the way of thinking in different field starting with firms and ending with consumers. The demand of digital fabrication will increase in the coming few years and it becomes a top priority for most of the companies that will replace their traditional manufacturing to this new technology. The digital fabrication will help many companies to produce high quality product and the rate of error will reduce significantly than the traditional manufacturing. The people how use 3D printer and 3D software programs will become more helpful worker in the market. The digital fabrication will be taught in many universities. The market price will decrease because of low request since the customer can make their own product by using this technology.

Q3- In your opinion, what are the potential threats/dangers presented by the technology and tools of digital fabrication?

2- Illegal components There could be some of the potential threats of using digital fabrication technology. One of the most effective threat of using digital fabrication is making illegal components such as weapons. Using digital fabrication to create weapons will be dangerous and harmful to our society because there no guarantee that most people will use this technology in appropriate ways. However, some people might be using this technology to serve their purpose. In addition, any person who has 3D printer can be able to develop or create its own guns without any restriction or rules that deter him or her.

1- Copyright and polices Digital fabrication can lead to lack of copyright and police because any person who has 3D printer and software programs can create any part of his or her car or anything else without any respect to the original owner of the product. Thus, many companies and industries will be susceptible to the infringement of copyright at any time.

Q4. Imagine yourself as an entrepreneur, briefly describe a business idea that utilizes digital fabrication tools and technology to provide new kinds of products/services that would be difficult/impossible to provide without digital fabrication technology.

As an entrepreneur who want to start a new business using the digital fabrication tools and technology. I would establish a website that specializes in 3D software programming and provide online training center for those who are willing to learn how to design, construct and produce 3D objects. In addition, I will provide in my websites the consulting services for the complex issues that face the customers or companies that use the digital fabrication technology.
