...Research Method (Sarah) Introduction The research method is outlined by an alternative study of the plan. This study will look at three main aspects: the technical specifications of the subject matter, the personal account, and the literary interpretation. The architectural plan is traditionally represented without the human figure, or as Robin Evans has pointed out, drawn as “amoebic” figures. Architectural drawings are often studied with a technical slant, although architecture has long been considered as “social artifact”1 . Thus literature, accompanied by photographic illustrations, is emergent as a device to test architectural apparatus, particularly in the domestic realm where aspects of dwelling and occupancy are not as closely recorded in formal documents as its physical history (e.g. building completion, demolition). This enables us to investigate the relationship between the building plan and its occupants, to understand the architecture as a dwelling. Technical specifications The Pearl Bank Apartments, built in 1972, was built to offer a transcendent mode of living that differentiated the uppermiddle class. More than its unprecedented stature that boasted an elite model of highdensity living, an interior component was specifically marketed as a key selling point — the living room. In the original Pearl Bank Apartments sales brochure, the text and images boast a large and brightlylit living room attached to a doublevolume ...

...1. Advantages and Disadvantages of Public TransportNowadays, many kinds of public transport can be seen on the road, even though people drive their own car. It is usually on time and economical. Firstly, one of the advantages is that using public transport is very economical. Taking buses and trains is cheaper than using private cars. If people have their own car, they have to pay a lot of money for service, repairs, and insurance. It maybe will cost all the money people earn. Moreover, there are many discounts for some individuals, like students, old people, and children. They can get cheaper prices by taking public transport. Students have to go to school almost every day, and they usually take public transport to school and home. It is more economical for students. In addition, a further advantage is that using public transport can preserve the environment. It can reduce pollution, because there are less cars driving on the road, and there are fewer fumes and also less traffic jams. Furthermore, it can increase the spaces in the city, because there are less cars parking. Taking buses and trains is able to keep the environment green, However, one of the disadvantages is that using public transport is inconvenient. It can be crowded. For instance, there are always too many individuals on the same bus in rush hour. Maybe thieves are on the bus they take. The public transport does not operate 24 hours a day. People have to follow the time table, so they must wait for it. Furthermore...

IF TOMORROW COMES by Sidney Sheldon, ©1985 BOOK ONE Chapter 01 New Orleans THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 20--- 11:00 P.M. She undressed slowly, dreamily, and when she was naked, she selected a bright red negligee to wear so that the blood would not show. Doris Whitney looked around the bedroom for the last time to make certain that the pleasant room, grown dear over the past thirty years, was neat and tidy. She opened the drawer of the bedside table and carefully removed the gun. It was shiny black, and terrifyingly cold. She placed it next to the telephone and dialed her daughter's number in Philadelphia. She listened to the echo of the distant ringing. And then there was a soft "Hello?" "Tracy... I just felt like hearing the sound of your voice, darling." "What a nice surprise, Mother." "I hope I didn't wake you up." "No. I was reading. Just getting ready to go to sleep. Charles and I were going out for dinner, but the weather's too nasty. It's snowing hard here. What's it doing there?" Dear God, we're talking about the weather, Doris Whitney thought, when there's so much I want to tell her. And can't. "Mother? Are you there?" Doris Whitney stared out the window. "It's raining." And she thought, How melodramatically appropriate. Like an Alfred Hitchcock...

Manz University of Massachusetts–Amherst n 2010, W. L. Gore & Associates celebrated its 52nd year in business. Founded in 1958 by Bill and Vieve Gore in the basement of their home, Gore had grown into a global enterprise famous for its high performance fabrics, medical products, and next-generation electronic products, as well as its use of self-empowered teams of employees (called associates at Gore). In its earlier years, the company had endeavored to restrict the size of its different corporate facilities to 200 associates or fewer, a practice that helped keep the number of teams at a given facility to a manageable number and facilitated cross-team coordination. More recently, however, to better cope with the challenges of a global marketplace, increasing numbers of teams were composed of associates in different facilities, sometimes facilities that were spread across three continents; the coordination of team members working in different facilities was enabled by online communication. In 2010, Gore’s products were sold on six continents and used on all seven continents, as well as under the ocean and in space. The company global operations required teams of associates to tightly coordinate their activities in developing, producing, and marketing...
