...Self-Directed learning is definitely workable in tertiary education with today’s technology. Students get access to unlimited resources via the World Wide Web. With the introduction of self-directed learning, students will also be more motivated and independents. Self-Directed learning also demand discipline from both the lecturers and the students. More work must be done before, during and after the lesson. The lecturers must believe that they do not hold all the knowledge in this World and the best that they can give the students is to teach them how to fish instead of giving them the fish. Training must be provided for lecturers to administer self-directed learning. However, self-directed learning cannot be recommended in “full throttle” to the entire curriculum. From the research, it was shown that only about 50% of the students are more receptive to this method for learning. We still have another half of the cohort who prefers to learn through the “traditional” classroom teaching. Motivated students are more willing to spend the extra efforts into research. Employers will find them value-adding to the organization as they are taught to learn by finding answers for themselves. In the higher-learning, they will be able to contribute to a more effective team and obtain potentially better grades than others. The limitation for self-directed learning can be a challenge as we may not be able to assess students’ learning until the conduct of an assessment...

...Journal Entry The adult learning theory of andragogy is based on a number of assumptions about the adult learner. As adults mature the self-concept change from being a dependent personality to be self- directed. Self-directed allows adults to participate in the diagnosis of their learning needs. Also as adults we bring valuable life experiences to the table which results to being a rich resource of learning. The social role is related to the readiness of the developmental degree of the adult and changes takes place as a person matures. The motivation that one experience is internal rather that external and there is relevance as to why one feels one must learn something. The classroom has to be an atmosphere where it is physically and psychologically appropriate for adults. The climate should allow adults to feel accepted, respected, and supported and there should be spirit of maturity between teacher and student as joint inquirers. The real life experience that has enabled me to make meaning of the andragogy theory is pursuing my master’s degree in education. First I had to make up my mind and realize that I have matured in a way of prioritizing my time and being responsible for making my schedule and taking ownership in my education. After making up my mind and realizing that I needed to pursue this next step I had to motivate myself. It is not easy when I am use to having my parents and my husband to help keep me motivated. So as the result of both parents and my husband...

...and outside the confines of a laboratory. This approach is especially essential in severe brain injury, where there are limited treatments to enhance motor recovery and the natural history is poorly understood. Specific Aim 1 is to automate the determination of type and quality of upper body movements made by subjects recovering from severe brain injury. We will record movements of subjects recovering from severe brain injury using video and functional activity monitors (FAMs; accelerometer-gyroscopes; Wagenaar et al., 2011) over two-to-three-day research hospital admissions. We will also record healthy controls with video and FAMs while they mimic the most common movements of the clinical subjects. 1A) We will...

...1. Self-Managed/ Directed Team Self-directed work teams, also known as self-managing teams, represent a revolutionary approach to the way work is organized and performed. It is a group of people working together in their own ways toward a common goal which is defined outside the team for example - James River Corporation’s Kendallville Plant ALPHA team. They manufacture cardboard boxes as defined by executive leadership. Team does their own work scheduling, training, rewards and recognition, etc. Minnesota-based 3M is among an increasing number of companies that involve employees in the daily management of their business through work teams. These teams are empowered to take corrective actions to resolve day-to-day problems. They also have direct access to information that allows them to plan, control and improve their operations. In short, employees that comprise work teams manage themselves. At 3M, the movement toward self-managed or directed work teams has been driven more by initiative and need than by corporate directive. Now most of 3M's manufacturing facilities, while at different levels of empowerment and different degrees of involvement, employ a team-based approach. In 1994, 3M's new Brockville, Ontario, facility came on-line as the organization's first "greenfield" site. It was designed and built to operate with self-directed work teams. Many work groups in line divisions and staff groups are moving more and more into self-direction. 3M's commercial office...

...Self-Consciousness Students Name Student ID Professor’s name Date of Submission Introduction Self-consciousness is a concept that is used interchangeably with self-awareness. Self-consciousness in most incidences occurs after someone realizes that some individuals have been observing him or her for a moment. Self-consciousness in psychological terms can sometimes be termed as a disorder. This scenario occurs since it at times affects the development of self-identity. This situation can at times make someone to be nervous or uncomfortable. However, in extreme cases, self-consciousness is capable of triggering emotional arousal hence leading to unprecedented characteristics. Self-consciousness is also known to be responsible for triggering philosophical reflections on given topics. Many philosophers have argued out that self-consciousness can result in many risks in one’s life. It is important to understand that importance of regulating self-consciousness that we possess. This paper will explicitly affirm that women have a higher self-conscious as compared to male counterparts. Individuals with high self-conscious levels have been known to have greater risks of having different disorders that are associated with internalizing things. ...disabilities. Sencibaugh and Sencibaugh looked at published research in the years 2000 to 2014. There were 4 different studies Sencibaugh and Sencibaugh focused on; Cooperative Learning and Cross Age Tutoring, Cooperative Learning and Class-wide Peer Tutoring, Structured versus Unstructured Cooperative Learning, and Cooperative Learning and Peer Mediated Instruction. The first study Sencibaugh and Sencibaugh looked at was Cooperative Learning and Cross Age Tutoring. They found out that the peer tutoring study strategy was more effective than the teacher directed-guided note study strategy. The peer tutoring study strategy was liked more, by the students, than the teacher directed-guided note study strategy. The second study strategy Sencibaugh and Sencibaugh looked at was Cooperative Learning and Class-wide Peer Tutoring. In this particular study, class-wide means all different aged students can participate in an after school-tutoring program. Peer tutoring, as mentioned in the previous paragraph, is more one on one and class-wide peer tutoring is done...

The Superintendanza is accountable for the majority of stabilising and restoration projects in both sites such as the House of the mosaics. Controlling the issue of tourism is are the heart of Guzzos policy with the minimisation of street level erosion through the application of barriers to tourist damage, including board walks over mosaic floors and directed tourist traffic flow. Furthermore Italian conservators work in some of the most important buildings in both sites, for example the Suburban baths of Herculaneum, where they have replaced gaps with light coloured concrete to prevent further plaster pealing and have placed covers over ancient graffiti...

...Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), U.S. government agency administered by the Department of Defense. It was established in 1958, in reaction to the successful launch of Sputnik by the USSR, as the Advanced Research Projects Agency. Although DARPA is only one of many military agencies administering research and development funds, it has been crucial to the development of several important technologies, especially military computers and the Internet. It funds a high percentage of all artificial intelligence research in the United States, as well as significant projects in microelectronics, materials, and behavioral science.[1] DARPA's mission is to maintain the technological superiority of the U.S. military and prevent technological surprise from threatening our national security. DARPA programs focus on high-risk research with that will have payoffs that could provide dramatic advances in military capabilities. Each DARPA office manages a large portfolio of programs.[3] DARPA’s original mission, inspired by the Soviet Union beating the United States into space with Sputnik,[2] was to prevent technological surprise. This mission has evolved over time. Today, DARPA’s mission is to prevent technological surprise for us and to create technological surprise for our adversaries. [2] By focusing on high-risk research that could provide dramatic advances in military capabilities, DARPA maintain its mission which is to prevent any new technological attack from any...
