...damp wind swirled around my body as I walked on the pathway of the dimly lit street. Winter is arriving with a vengeance. My hands are frozen, yet, I have a sweat up from walking to a steady pace for so long, must have walked at least two kilometres now. I cannot see if the street ends or turns, it is too dark to work out, the street lights are placed erratically, not like to city lights where I am from. I thought she said “follow the main road”. Well, I am on the main road, a dark, dimly lit main road. I looked back, did I miss another point of direction. I am to turn left after Tot Spot and the Scarlet Women sign advertising a play currently running. Oh, at last, there is the early childhood centre, not much of a childhood centre if you want my opinion. So, where is the Scarlet Women sign? I am getting worried now, after thirty minutes, I should have reached her home by now. I’m going back to ‘Tot Spot’ and start again. Some directions, the Scarlet Women sign is on the other side of the road, facing the other way. My blood pressure is rising, I’m starting to get emotional and stressed. Uh, I should have written down those instructions. Okay, go over one more time in my head, what did she say to me on the phone? Forty minutes from the swimming centre. Walking distance, that’s what she said, walking distance. Swimming Centre, Shopping centre, Tot Spot, Scarlet Women, passed all of those, what have I missed? Here it is; the alley-way shortcut to her street. That’s what I missed...

...DOMAIN 320 - IT PROJECT MANAGEMENT Competency 320.1.1: Project Management Tools - The graduate evaluates potential project management tools for alignment with specified project activities. Competency 320.1.3: Scheduling - The graduate creates project schedules that ensure timely project completion. Introduction: Read the attached “GenRays Case Study” before completing this task. Scenario: GenRays recently implemented a new centralized system for finance, purchasing, logistics, and accounting. This system has provided cost savings and other benefits to the company. Management expects that similar business benefits would be possible with a new centralized Human Resources Information System (HRIS), which would include payroll functions. Currently a rather primitive payroll system is used, and small teams have been deployed to work in each company location to support local payroll and human resources functions. The proposed HRIS would replace this primitive one. GenRays management has asked you to act as the project manager and lead a project team to put together a plan for the HRIS project that will allow senior executives to determine whether they should proceed with the implementation of a new centralized HRIS. If the plan is approved, the executive sponsors indicate that you may begin implementing the approved plan after W2s are issued in the new year, but all system elements must be functional before year-end closing. Task: A. Complete the attached...

...Introduction As leaders you should be expected to coordinate to ensure provision in your organization. In order to accomplish a well organize organization as a leader you need to have a plan on how you’re going to direct your employees. The article on leadership & direction it outlines on how to have direction and control to execute methods for continues improvement for a leader by using the PDCA Cycle ( Plan, Do, Check, Act), it is a four step method that uses not only direction and control to execute, but also provide and iterative process for continues improvement (“Big dog &”, 1997,para 1). Based on this article I will be answering and explaining the following. How do questions helps to ensure that a project is successful, what type of questions must be asked and answered to ensure the project is appropriate for the organization and how does a leader know if all the right questions have been asked. Questions that help ensure that a project is successful In my opinion questions help to ensure that a project is successful because if you don’t ask questions were are unlikely to get the information we need to make good decisions. According to the article Leadership & Direction “Good plans start with brainstorming” (“Big dog &”, 1997, para, 2). By asking questions the team is able to plan positive forces and events and then taking action to avoid any obstruction that might put the project at risk of failing. Any information received by your employees by asking the right...

...Following instructions makes tasks simpler, and will also ensure that things are done effectively, to eliminate confusion and ultimately to save time. When instructions are properly followed, situations pan out the way they are intended to. People who follow instructions show that they are cooperative, intelligent and dependable. When someone does not follow instructions properly, the outcome can cause chaos and great frustration throughout any type of environment. Failing to follow instructions will ultimately lead to the project of interest being done incorrectly. When a person does not follow instructions, he or she finds that finishing tasks will inevitably be much more difficult. How can one complete something effectively if the person at hand does not know what exactly they are suppose to be doing? In order for one to follow instructions, a person must listen well, read carefully, and ask questions if necessary. This means that in any given scenario, whether it be instructions verbally, physcially, or electronically recieved, that person is responsible for complete and total understanding of their responsibility for said project. When instructions are given, full and total unidivided attention must be at hand so that the tasks are not only heard, but fully understood. If a single person on a team does not adhere to instructions, then the entire team suffers on some level. Tasks that are done properly the first time do not have to be redone, therefore, one saves time and...

...In 2010, five boys beat hundred of thousands others to get the coveted spots in the seventh series "The X Factor". Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson did not know each other before the audition of the British talent show but they were grouped together by fate and later achieved fame in one direction. The members applied as solo candidates but they did not qualify as "Boys" category, thus judge Nicole Scherzinger suggested them to form a group so that they would qualify as "Groups". One Direction began toppling their competition one by one although they remained the only group in its category. With Simon Cowell as their mentor, One Direction managed to finish third behind runner-up Rebecca Ferguson and winner Matt Cardle. But One Direction were the quickest to break through the charts in United Kingdom and United States. Their supposed winning song "Forever Young" was leaked online after the "X Factor" final. The group signed a recording deal with Syco Records and they went on the annual contestants tour through April 2011. Meanwhile, work on their debut album was also moving fast. "What Makes You Beautiful" was released as the first U.K. Single in September 2011. The song successfully landed at number on U.K. Singles chart. "Gotta Be You" was released as one last bullet before the album "Up All Night" was released in November 2011 and took the second spot of U.K. Albums chart by selling more than 138,000 copies in the first week....

...• Row Planting • The Compass • Gunpowder • Paper • Seismograph • The Wheelbarrow • Kites • Silk • Seed Drill • Hang Gliders Thank You Ancient Chinese Now allow me explain these marvels. Row planting was first planted in 6th century BC. This way of planting allows the crops to grow faster and stronger and they also realized that as the wind travels there is less damage in crops planted in rows due to the wind passing through gently. It is also more efficient in watering, weeding and harvesting the crops. The compass was created in 4th century BC and was made of lodestone. The compass was first used by fortune-tellers before it was applied to the cardinal direction. Then the Chinese’s started using the compass to point to the south because they considered south not north their cardinal direction. Gunpowder has been credited to certain Chinese alchemists around 9th century but the legend has it as gunpowder being accidently discovered by alchemists looking for a concoction that could create immortality in humans. Paper was invented in AD...

...at the end of the game to make sure the ball wasn’t stolen. The next day the coach came to the players saying that one dedicated fan offered the team a billion dollars for the ball. The team then knew that they had to find the ball. One teammate suggested to hire a detective but then another came up with the idea to hire a mathematician instead. When the mathematician arrived the first thing he asked was, “In which direction was the ball thrown?” The player that threw the ball then answered, “The ball was thrown west.” So then they went to the west part of the stadium and the mathematician told everyone to split up into two groups, one goes left and one goes right. He brought everyone to the west side of the stadium because he knew that the ball translated to that area. He also knew that the ball could have bounced left or right. The team searching the right side of where the ball would have been translated to found a note saying, “I found your ball but, I won’t let you have it so easy. Go to the centerpoint of the stadium then search for another set of directions.” The mathematician then drew a map of the stadium then found the centerpoint. When they all arrived to the centerpoint they found another note saying to go to the vertex of the inscribed angle that can be created from the two main pillars in the front of the stadium. Since the mathematician knew that a inscribed angle’s vertex could be found by finding where the two chords intersect he lead the way to the final destination...

...Featured Chapter Creating a Strategic Direction Visions and Values Paul Olk, Peter Rainsford, and Tsungting Chung ncreased globalization and the incorporation of many new information technology (IT) tools have enhanced the need for top management to set a clear strategic vision for a company. As market demands and the ability to communicate globally encourage companies to continue to expand into new geographical and product markets—and as they also enter into long-term buyer-supplier relationships or contract out activities previously conducted internally—companies are spread more thinly. This creates a challenge of how to coordinate all of the activities conducted around the globe and by partner organizations. While sophisticated software programs (e.g., enterprise resource planning [ERP]) or intranet capabilities enhance internal communication, these are not adequate. Establishing and maintaining a consistent strategic direction for the company begins with setting a clear vision for the company. A strategic vision provides multiple benefits to a company. First, it presents a broadly shared sense of organizational direction and purpose. Direction is needed because few organizations have achieved greatness by being all things to all consumers. To instill a purpose, most successful companies achieved their leadership position by adopting a vision far greater than their resource base and competencies would allow (de Kluyver & Pearce, 2002; Hamel & Prahalad, 1989). A vision...

...Running head: STRATEGIC DIRECTION—HOME DEPOT Strategic Direction—Home Depot Keller Graduate School of Management J. Lambrou, Professor Strategic Direction Introduction What is Strategic Direction? This means taking your company in a direction related to what’s happening in the dynamic environment of what the business provides (be it in a services, manufacturing, technological, or financial area). (Olsen, 2007) Therefore, the strategy and direction the company take are defined by what established and unique value propositions the company has when compared to competitors; operations executed to provide different and tailored value to customers; clearly identifies any tradeoffs and clarifies what not to do; focuses on activities that fit together and reinforce each other; and is continually driven for improvement within the organization and while moving it toward its defined vision. I use The Home Depot (Home Depot here-out) for this paper as I have a part-time job with them. Strategy Home Depot’s simple and straightforward strategy is to ensure it diversifies its operations by having several businesses competing in the different product markets of home improvement. (Home Depot, 2008) The Home Depot has positioned itself within the industry based on a strategy of cost leadership. This operating strategy allows the company to earn above-average profitability by dictating prices from suppliers lowering input costs and minimizing distribution transactions eliminating...

...paintings in the traditional sense. Thangkas are usually much smaller and are rolled on canvas so that they can be easily transported and hung anywhere for teaching. All of the thangkas I saw were enormous, comparing to a regularly sized painting. They cover three-fourths the height of the wall and are four or five times wider than a normal human. These paintings also deviate from the rules of thangka art in the use of colours, shape, proportion, characteristics and qualities. The traditional thangka paintings are strictly regulated, while the thangkas shown in Bowers Museum are more free-flowing, giving the artist more room for creativity. Although all nine thangkas share the same size and characteristics, Virupaksa (Dharma King of the West Direction) with 16 attendants painting caught my eyes immediately when I walked into the room, maybe because the main figure in this thangka- Virupaksa has a red face. He is depicted with a wide face, large round eyes, a brown moustache and beard. In this painting, Virupaksa is holding a writhing snake entwined around his upper arm. His left hand is raised holding a pearl shape with a yellow flame extending upward. Adorned with an ornate gold...
