Communication is a key element in the success of any business and an intranet is just the way to help your business accomplish this task. The use of intranets within an organization such as Dirt Bikes will prove to be beneficial in increasing sales, communication between employees, vendors, suppliers and provide up-to-date information to all types of customers. Human
Resources, Sales and Marketing, Manufacturing and Production are all teams that can benefit from this service. The Intranet enables the company to incorporate information from customers and vendors in an effort to find their own business process, resulting in finding the best solution for each. Employees can access company information from anywhere, not just at the office. The ease of use is very promising and unlike older systems everyone can be on the same system.
Sales and Marketing departments can benefit from intranets, providing accurate and quick access of reports, marketing initiatives, product information, and competitor’s offers or sales.
Very different from the internet, an intranet is an internal system within a company that all employees can access. The intranet will serve the purpose of provoking organization, communication and process simplification. The intranet will provide a company and its employees first hand access to advertising and marketing, company goals and mission statement, and standard operating procedures, Maintenance and Shop manuals could be posted on the intranet for quick and easy access. Human resource information could also be posted, such as the employee manual and benefits information. This could reduce the time that Human Resources would have to spend answering employee questions.
The intranet can be

...Internet Tools and Dirt Bikes By: Anthony Williams Based upon the information given to us, Dirt Bikes first order of business should be to sit down and draw up a plan regarding how they will proceed and what they will need to achieve that goal followed by an Internet and Information and tools usage policy. First thing to determine is how many of Dirt Bikes employees actually need computers or mobile devices and of those that need a PC or mobile device, who needs access to the internet in order to do their job. Like everything else, without a plan as in many other business aspects, implementation of an Intranet is doomed to fail without being properly planned. After determining their needs we need to look at the benefits of intranets for Sales and Marketing, Human Resources and Manufacturing and Production. An intranet is inexpensive to implement and easy to use. Because a majority of people surf the web/internet already, implementation and learning how to use the company intranet should be fairly easy. Intranets are also scalable and flexible which means as the company increases production and or size so can its intranet. Intranets can integrate data from diverse sources, such as manufacturing and production along with sales and marketing, external competitor research, etcetera. Company intranets with different focuses can offer Dirt Bikes many benefits such as improved decision making, empowering users to be part of the process and have input by building a...

...Dirt Bike Inc. is a company that manufactures and sells its own brand of off road motorcycles. In order for the company to increase sale, better market, reduce labor, and secure private information some changes have to be made. The meaning of this paper is to provide supervision on how the intranet and information technology services can be beneficial for Dirt Bikes Inc. Companies that start off small, and in time gain success, can only uphold that success by investing a percentage of their yearly profits back into the company. Over the years Dirt Bike has evolved into a profitable company and yet they are still willing to find a new way of increasing sales, and making their company more significant. Dirt Bike has a hundred or more employees that are divided up into different departments. There is a sales team, and marketing, Human Resource department and an engineering and production department. Dirt Bike provides internet access and desktop computers to its staff. But in order to become more effective and to better customer services clients and consumers changes need to be made. In business today it is a necessity for communication channels to be as proficient as possible. Dirt Bikes’ current means of communication is out of date and without further investment in technology, will hold back the operations and growth of the organization. A complete overhaul of the IT communication is recommended. Although there are significant costs associated with implementing a new...

...APA Alan Jankewicz 205 12152012 Dorch APA After evaluating the Dirt Bikes organization, I recommend the following solutions: Since the Dirt Bikes organization already provides Internet access to all employees who use desktop computers, it would be beneficial to create a private network by using the existing network infrastructure paired up with Internet connectivity standards and software developed for the World Wide Web (WWW). According to Laudon and Laudon (2009), Internet networking standards and Web technology used to create private networks are called intranets. An intranet is private and secure and is protected by a firewall which prevents unauthorized individuals from entering the network. Intranet software technology and that of the WWW is the same. Having quick access to accurate information can be vital to a sales and marketing department. The sales and marketing department could benefit from using an intranet by being able to look up sales reports, product information, marketing analysis, and researching competitors are just one click away. The human resources department could benefit from having an intranet because they could eliminate using large amounts of paper. The human resources department could upload employee handbooks, benefits information, job listings and applications, newsletters, and new employee interactive training, as well as other information that would save paper costs. The manufacturing and production departments could benefit from...

...Dirt Bikes Dirt Bikes USA is a small company headquartered in Carbondale Colorado that manufactures and sells its own brand of off-road motorcycles. It was founded in 1993 to product dirt bikes that could be customized for racing and off-road recreational riding using the best quality components and parts from all over the world. The company has continued to grow and now faces a new set of challenges and opportunities. You have been asked to serve as a consultant to apply your information systems knowledge to help Dirt Bikes solve some of the problems it is encountering. Dirt Bikes USA was founded in 1993 by Carl Schmidt and Steven McFadden, two young but experienced bikers with engineering backgrounds who saw that dirt bikes were becoming very popular in the United States as both sporting and racing motorcycles. They developed frames for dirt bikes that were more suited to off-road handling and started using these frames to build their own dirt bike models using motorcycle engines manufactured by other companies, such as Honda and Rotax Motors of Austria. Riding on one of their customized dirt bikes, Steven finished first in the famous Barstow to Las Vegas race. There was so much interest in Carl and Steve’s bikes that they decided to open a production facility that could manufacture large numbers of their dirt bikes for the retail market. They opened a small production facility in Carbondale which has since expanded to house 120 workers involved in production, design...

...Dirt Bikes' Management Dirt Bikes’ management is concerned about how much money they have been spending on communicating with people inside and outside the organization. I have designed a strategy on how to use internet tools and technology to help Dirt Bikes’ employees communicate and obtain information more efficiently, earning revenue and creating marketing opportunities. Everything about a company must be broken down and looked at so that a person can see where the problems are coming from and how to solve them. Sometimes it is not the company, but the fact the company has not upgraded to the use of updated technology. The key is to integrate their current technology and business structure through the intranet and internet. The intranet is highly beneficial to Dirt Bikes’ business because it allows all of the employee’s instant access to job tools and services that help to increase productivity. The intranet is a collection of private computer networks within an organization, this will help them to be more productive, safer and protected. It uses network technologies as a tool to facilitate communication between people and it is also designed to improve data sharing capabilities. The Human Resources Department as well as sales and marketing can benefit thru the Intranet structure. The section of the Intranet for these departments will include links for employees to access information for their wages, company benefits, online W-2 access and more. It would also be designed...

...Dirt Bikes IT/205 February 12, 2012 Dirt Bikes In reviewing the information available regarding Dirt Bikes’ operating system, there are a few recommendations that will help the organization improve their communication and costs. Starting with incorporating a local area network (LAN) would allow a better line of communication between each employee, as well as able to obtain information more efficiently. Building an intranet system will support the organization in allowing employees to access information stored from a central depository such as a database server. Dirt Bikes’ can also implement a Voice over IP system. The first recommendation is for Dirt Bikes’ to introduce a local area network to allow all the computers to communicate with one another all with in the same network. Creating a local area network in a star topology format will let all the computers flow through one hub, so that if one computer loses connection it does not affect the rest of the systems. The company should use a copper medium, such as a twisted wire cable to allow transmission between different network elements within the local area network. Building a local-area network and connecting it to the Internet will provide access to remote locations and wide area networks (WAN) to reach a global area. Introducing a server that is available on the intranet would benefit all the departments by introducing a central depository of information easily accessible and will help with the sharing of...

...The Uncommon Reader The novella “The Uncommon Reader” by Alan Bennett is based on the story of a queen. It focuses on her transformation to be from a queen responsible for the everyday ‘noble’ chores to a vivid reader. It traces a journey of how it all began and eventually led to the queen accepting the thoughts of the author and then after a period of addiction, how she becomes a writer. Towards the beginning of the novella, the queen was not that fond of reading. Reading was just a commonplace task that some people did for the sake of it. It didn’t fascinate her at all. As expected from a queen of such high stature, her job was to make sure that the state was functioning in a smooth fashion. She didn’t take reading as a very noble task, as according to novella, she was a doer ‘reading wasn’t doing-she was a doer’. Hence owing to this very fact, the Queen had a very low and derogatory opinion about reading. The Queen had this psyche which made her finish a book once she started it, regardless of the fact that she liked it or not. She didn’t read it with an impulse to learn and build on her knowledge. The novella also states that Queen didn’t like being contradicted, and if she came across any reading that wasn’t in line with her thoughts and actions, she used to lose her patience at it. Her lack of interest in reading can be judged by the incident when Norman, a servant sarcastically remarked about her reading sense by stating that the book ‘My dog Tulip’, must be comprehended...
