The human race is evolving in a manner divergent than other species; not only are humans evolving with nature, but also with the technology that they produce. Historically people fought to survive in the harsh terrain of their environment. We all evolved to undergo strenuous exercise each day, cooperate with nature, and catch our own food. However, technological advances has rapidly changed everyones living conditions so drastically that biological evolution cannot compensate. This relationship between people and technology can be shown through the development of the Oji-Cree people living south of the Hudson Bay. In this example it will become evident that although technology has improved the native peoples life span; it is consequently damaging their quality of life. During the 1940’s and 1950’s the Oji-Cree people thrived with relatively simple technology compared to the…show more content… Soon people were no longer developing with the seasons, transportation become faster as well as simpler, drugs became significant int their society, and the importance of the physical condition was no longer required. “Since the arrival of new technologies, the population has suffered a massive increase in morbid obesity, heart disease, and Type 2 diabetes” (Wu). Moreover this escalation of healthy problems contributed to the dissatisfaction of the Oji-Cree people. Now their lives were now less demanding and longer; however, the quality of people’s lives began to diminish. Not only were there increased health problems, but a decline in happiness become evident as the the amount of suicides become proliferated. Along with these problems “The Chief of a small Oji-Cree community estimated that half of his adult population was addicted to OxyContin or other painkillers” (Wu).
