...Unit 6 Discussion 1: Determining Firewall Rules Learning Objectives and Outcomes <!--[if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->You will be able to explore design and firewall rules for a bastion host. <!--[if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->You will examine how a bastion host allows administrators to access Samba and Secure Shell (SSH) for remotely managing a server. Assignment Requirements As the Linux system administrator of insurance company Secure All, Inc., you need to design firewall rules for the organization’s bastion host file server, which uses Samba. This server is located in the local area network (LAN) with the network address 172.16.0.0/12 and subnet 255.240.0.0. The server should also allow Web application access for its online transaction platform to mount the filesystem. The Web application resides on the Web server located in the demilitarized zone (DMZ). This server has two interface cards. One card, which is for the traffic from the DMZ firewall, is linked to the wide area network (WAN). This card’s IP address is 192.168.1.5. The other interface card has the IP address 172.16.1.5 and is linked to the LAN. Which firewall rules should be written using iptables for the server hosting Samba? Discuss and suggest firewall rules to allow administrators to remotely manage the server using SSH. Use the concept of “default deny” when designing the rules. Participate in this discussion by engaging in a meaningful debate...

...Week 6 Discussion * Explain whether or not the U.S. Government should do more to protect consumers. Conversely, should consumers become more aware of when they are purchasing products in today’s business environment? * Suppose you were an IT manager at a business. Identify the specific laws addressing consumer information that would need to be considered by your company. Explain why such laws are necessary to adhere to. Answer: In my opinion the U.S. government is doing a great job protecting its consumers by putting laws, regulations, and guidelines in place for corporations. Not all of the responsibility should fall on the government, some of the liability should belong to the consumer to take precautions before shopping. Everyone should research before purchasing because it is smart shopping. You would not feed your child something that was in a package that you could not view its contents, so why would you purchase an item you know nothing about. Research…research…research. Being a compliance officer at my current job, I would have to say the most important federal law to adhere to as an IT manager is privacy. Keeping company’s information secure and private is very important. A breach or violation in privacy can lead to leaked information and in the company I work for that can end in fines and punishments. Working for an insurance company, patient’s and client’s information is shared in emails and if they were leaked the company would be in direct violation...

...IS 3440 Discussion 6 As the Linux system administrator of insurance company Secure All, Inc., you need to design firewall rules for the organization’s bastion host file sever, which uses Samba. Located on the LAN the sever should allow Web application access for it’s online transaction platform to mount the filesystem, using a Linux computer as a gateway between a private network and the internet. Any internet connection whether it be a dial-up PPP, DSL, cable modem or a T1 line can be used. In the case of most dial-up PPP connections and cable modem connections, only a single IP address is issued allowing only one computer to connect to the internet at a time. Using Linux and iptables / ipchains one can configure a gateway which will allow all computers on a private network to connect to the internet via the gateway and one external IP address, using a technology called "Network Address Translation" (NAT) or masquerading and private subnets. Iptables/ipchains can also be configured so that the Linux computer acts as a firewall, providing protection to the internal network. Using NAT a bastion host should allow administrators to access Samba and SSH for remotely managing the server through NAT or PAT. These two filter methods will allow for a one way only gateway that is only accessed through certain ports or network addresses. Using this sort of port or network address filtering administrators can access the Samba server to perform administrative tasks, while...

...Proper research includes multiple components that are complicated. In particular, research that involves quantitative analysis, requires more concerted effort and detailed studies. Even before the research is even conducted, there must be a lot of prior planning. One of the vital part of any research is hypothesis testing and components. Hypothesis is a probably, reasonable study that bases estimates on elements that are evaluated. Hypothesis testing in particular involves the use of two variable and looks at the relationship between them. The research variables that I decided to analyze were the number of surgeries that were performed and the amount of “bad debt” expenses. Out of these chosen variables, the research question that I made up was “Does a reduction of the number of surgeries correlate with bad debt reduction?” The null hypothesis states that there is no correlation between the two variables and in the above aforementioned is marked by Ho: μ = Reducing the amount of surgeries performed in Virginia Hospitals reduces the amount of bad debt expenses. On the other hand, the alternative hypothesis proposes the opposite and in this case, the amount of surgeries performed does affect the second variable, “bad debt expenses” (Hawkes & Marsh 2005). Alternative hypothesis can also be directional through the statement of reducing the number of surgeries will decrease the debt expenses. Another part of hypothesis testing is that of type 1 vs. type 2 errors. Type 1 errors...

...2/17/2015 When looking at Bureaucratic systems, there are four major steps that take place. Those major steps are: setting performance standards, measuring performance, comparing performance against the standards and determining deviations, and taking action to correct problems and reinforce successes (Bateman 328). In the Sandwich Blitz business, there is a very good example of how these four steps need to be taken into action. In the Sandwich Blitz organization a problem arose that an employee was writing down hours that were not actually worked. If we go through the four steps of a bureaucratic system setting performance standards would allow for these problems to not arise. If Dalman and Lei set performance standards, an employee would know lying would not be accepted. Setting a performance standard could be as simple as stating an employee must only write hours down that are worked. The second step blends in with the first. If a rule or expectation is written down, measuring performance is making sure the employees are sticking to these expectations and rules. This runs into the third step, if this rule is broken it could then state that if a person is not to do this my may be punished in a certain way. Lastly, the fourth step blends in all previous three steps and allows for correct punishment to be taken into place and make sure all employees know breaking the rules is unacceptable. If Dalman and Lei were to implement these steps into their business, it would...
