Scholars are able to find out about early people by studying different artifacts; as in tools, jewelry, and pottery. They also study human fossils, old parts of building, old wall paintings, and even food remains. They can tell how life was then and how it has changed over time. For example, archaeologists were able to learn about the writing of the Maya civilization by studying hieroglyphs that were left on walls of buildings in 300 B.C (Myers, 1904). During prehistoric times, society around the Amazon consisted of different groups and lifestyles. The Cambeba would engage in farming and make multi-colored cotton textiles, as well as water bottle; which they used rubber to make. Hunters and gatherers arrived and changed the vegetation by burning Savannas to enhance hunting, and planted fruit and nut trees. Also, Paleo-Indians planted crops, known as peach palm, and plants used for medicinal purposes. Different groups would contribute to the construction of the buildings around and making ways to travel, such as roads. (Smith). Europeans were able to achieve dominance by having their people settling, sending their armies out to conquer nations, and having their merchants engage in trading. Europeans had a scientific superiority in the Sixteenth century in medicine, chemistry, and physics. Indigenous population also played a factor in the European dominance. Diseases, mainly smallpox and the flu, killed many people; in addition to villages being attacked along with slave raids. Each of those events caused a large amount of loss of lives (Smith). I think that groups of people could disappear due to factors such as village attacks, or wars, and diseases. Natural disasters may also have an impact such as it did with the Olmec. After volcanic eruptions, traces of the Olmec had disappeared and they no longer remained in their particular territory. However, it is not known if they were killed or if they may have relocated (Top 10 Civilizations That Mysteriously Disappeared, 2012). Droughts may have led to a disappearance of prehistoric groups in that it affected the farming and growth of crops.

...Iesha Fox July 19th, 2012 MGMT 250 Discussion Board 1 Prof. John Hargiss Entrepreneurship Discussion Question 1 Over the past few years, our economy has gotten worse and worse, but I would still take the risk of opening up my own business. To me, now would be the perfect time to open up. I think this because no matter how bad the economy is, that won’t stop anyone from going out and purchasing anything from stores. Although there are pros and cons to starting your own business right now, I would still go for it. I believe before anyone opens up their own business, you have to know what you are getting into. You have to have a lot of knowledge and have to be very committed to what you are about. I think before starting your own, you need to at least work in a business for maybe two or three years. That way you know what goes on inside the business. Try to talk to someone that owns a business so that you can get some key pointers what will help along the way. Another important thing to consider before you get started is money. You have to have money to make money. I know it takes a lot of money to get started, so you have to think are you really prepared to start your own business. Most people try to get loans from banks. But to do this, you need a credit score of “700”. You need to be able to manage your money, if you don’t know how the business won’t last long because you’ll soon go bankrupt because you aren’t keeping up. The statement “A student whose main activity...

...Discussion BOARD FORUM 4 Discussion Board Thread Re: Job Description Definition: “Job Descriptions typically support key Human Resource decisions, including those which link competencies with functions such as selection, training, career development, pay determination and promotions. It includes a job Title, reporting relationships, a summary of responsibilities, and a level of decision-making authorized and hiring requirements information.” Hawkes, C. L, &Weathinton, B. L. (2014).Competency-Based Versus Task-Based Job descriptions: Effects on applicant attract. Journal of behavior & applied management, 15(3), 190-211 Summary: In an Organization, Human Resources is responsible for making Job Descriptions and handing them over to management. Some of the Job Descriptions are too long, outdated meaning that the information is not current, it is boring and confusing. According to Miller, a best Job description is one that is simple and straight forward, easy to understand. It is the road map to a good performance which benefits an Organization or Company instead of a boring document that contains theoretical activities (Miller, pg. 394) A Job description written well can also be used or rather can serve as a reminder of what is expected of the employees and most of all can be used in the recruiting process to attract good candidates who can be motivated and be able to perform a great job. When writing a Job description, it should be in such a way that...

...Discussion Board Question: Think of a time when you were really dissatisfied with a job in a company or your role in a volunteer organization, student group (incl. fraternity/sorority) or as a student in a class. Describe the situation. What did you think about the situation? How did you feel about it emotionally? How did your job satisfaction influence your behavior? I once worked at an Irish restaurant while I was in high school that was completely dreadful. We worked extra long shifts with no lunch breaks would sometimes be forced to work doubles on weekends with no breaks at all and no overtime pay. The restaurant was new in town so busy was slow, I would walk away from an 8 hour shift with only 15$. The manager and owners were rude and couldn’t even remember our names and were extremely insensitive about requesting time off no matter what the circumstances were. It was the only job I could find at the time so I was stuck working it for 2 months until the summer ended, it was horrible. The job itself was exhausting from being on your feet all day and walking around the restaurant. I was constantly tired which make me grumpy and very irritable even when I wasn’t working. Because of the rudeness of the employers it caused all of us to be less friendly towards each other, which made a bad work environment. The whole situation made me become a poor employee unfortunately. I didn’t try my best and would frequently show up late and slack on my work. The lack of respect from...

...Jonathan Swifts “A Modest Proposal” is outrageously filled with sarcasm. One could assume what to expect from the piece just by reading the title “A Modest Proposal for preventing the children of poor people in Ireland from being a burden on their parents or country, and for making them beneficial to society” (Pg 1114). The average reader might would read this piece and think that Swift had literally gone insane. Swift proposes the thought that the mothers whom cannot provide for their children shall breast feed for the first year and once the child is “plump” be offered for sale(pg 1115) Swift even proposes the thought of eating a child… “a young healthy child well nursed is at a year old is a most deliciously, nourishing and wholesome food, whether stewed, roasted, baked or broiled ” (pg 1115) is just ridiculous. Swift also says that he “humbly” offers his thoughts and opinions, yet anyone would consider this suggestion offensive and irrational, not humble by any means. I believe Swift wrote such a piece in order to show how the wealthier Britons viewed the less fortunate lower class. They may have not thought anything of the actions they were showing toward the poor until reading such an article like Swifts and it opened their eyes to see how badly they were treating the people. I believe that Swift most definitely accomplished his point in writing such an article and that the privileged people offered more opportunity to the unsuccessful people of their community. ...Hello Class, My name is Brandon Wilhite and I am a United States soldier, this isn't my first online course but it is one of the most important one. I have taken online courses before with AIU and because of the length of the course and how great the staff and faculty are I plan to complete my degree here, with that said my future educational and career goals are to complete my MBA and get my JD(Judicial Doctorate) and become a corporate attorney and run my own business and a business degree is the first step in my quest to becoming an attorney and future success. While going through the virtual campus I found the interactive reading and activities to be the most useful to me. This was because it helped me understand the content and practice what I learned. There are three basic business environments(legal, social, and economic) that affect the success of a business. The legal environment of a business is the law as it affects a business and is governed by state, country, and international laws. This includes laws on what can and can't be produced or sold, consumer and employee protection laws, tax and other financial laws, as well as many rules and regulations with regards to business ethics, code of conduct, arbitration, and when and how to seek legal advice. The social environment of a business is the factors that affect a business socially. Every business works in a society and different factors such as family, educational institutions, and religion affect...

...1.What is the concept of procurement in the context of the public sector? Investopedia.com defines procurement as the act of purchasing. In the public sector, procurement is the acquisition of products and services on behalf of the government (2016). The Office of Federal Procurement Policy (OFFP), which was created by congress in 1974 to guide government-wide procurement policies to promote efficiency and effectiveness in the acquisition process. The OFFP states that it is very important for the government to ensure that it spends money wisely and eliminates waste and abuse of taxpayers’ dollars (OFFP, 2016). 2.What differentiates the concept of procurement in both the private and public sectors? Why is public sector procurement different from private sector procurement? Corporate procurement in the private sector can be a “complex and lengthy process”. Therefore, many major corporations hire a Chief Procurement Officer to deal with all major acquisitions for the company (Investopedia). The main difference between public and private procurement is that in the private sector they have a more flexible budget for the acquisition of products and services, whereas in the public sector the budget is limited due to the OFFP, which ensures that the government spend taxpayers’ dollars wisely. Rocheleau, states that if an organization agrees to purchase from outside vendors; they must request an RFP or related mechanisms to obtain detailed bids. Some of the approaches detailed...

...Statement 1 Research methods can be godly is supported by scripture… "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you. Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle" (Psalm 32:8-9). God marvels when His people gain knowledge and wisdom. Research is way of gathering evidence which allows us to make better decisions and choices. The more information we have the better informed our decisions are. Research is so important is because it creates the building blocks of knowledge that we base our understanding of the world on. Utilizing research God’s way ensures that all research is not biased and that it is of a good enough quality that we can make decisions based on the information gathered. The licensed vaccine to prevent measles was made available to its victims in 1963 because of many years of research. This vaccine saved my cousin’s life in 1968. To God be the glory! I believe God uses research and technology to improve many conditions of the world and additionally to save lives. ...There are numerous apologetic methods that are “on the market” today. So much so that entire books are written just on one particular method. However, I believe Groothius said it best when he stated “some apologists have spent as much time or more time attempting to refute their fellow apologists’ methods than they have in attempting to bring apologetics to the people who need it most: unbelievers and doubting followers of Jesus.” In the options given in our assigned reading this week I relate most with the worldview hypothesis method. I believe this method addresses the needs of the culture around us in order to lead people to genuinely find Jesus. All too often I have seen conversions that have occurred that were not deeply rooted in true change. Whether it was a great worship experience or any other type of experience that was the catalyst to conversion, neither of them seem to be deeply rooted and can be swayed very easily. Worldview hypothesis in my opinion presents more of a consumerist approach that can appeal to people. Let me explain what I mean because I know the word consumerist is a naughty word in the Christian world. The American culture has been engrained with a virtual buffet of choices when it comes to any aspect of our life. Think about it; careers, television, food, shopping, etc. In each of these areas, the person is presented with a smorgasbord or choices in which they weigh the pros and cons and make a decision. And let’s face it, it works. Why...

...People misunderstand Christianity because they encounter hypocritical Christians. A new convert in Christ can join a local church and may come across some members who may not act like Christians outside of the church. For example, they may come across a co-worker who never talks about God at work and whose actions are far from those of Christ, therefore they form an opinion about the church as a whole. Salvation begins as a relationship with God and it should be expressed in one’s relationships with others. When Salvation is received some people just treat it as “fire insurance” from hell, just doing enough to get by. Salvation should reflect the personal relationship you have with God. When people don’t make a true commitment to live a life of holiness then they give Christians a bad reputation. It is important as Christians to daily be refreshed by the Holy Spirit and being cleansed of all unrighteousness. Spend time in prayer with God so that we can be an effective witness for Christ. New believers are accepted for who they are, but they soon feel the pressure to hold the attitudes of others in church, to live the way others are living, and to prize the things that others value. We often hear that Christians may be the only Bible that people may read (our lifestyle). For the new believer when they join the church they are looking for examples (people who are souled out for Christ) to follow. If the majority of the church is double-minded (hypocritical), then as a result the...

...Week 1 Discussion Topic 1 - What went wrong at D&A Labs? After reviewing CSEC630 Module 1, provide a realistic scenario on possibly what went wrong at D&A labs and discuss countermeasures that you are aware of, that can help prevent the situation from recurring. When addressing this question consider the following: Assuming the company had a firewall, why didn't it stop the intruders? Do you think an Intrusion Prevention System would have helped in this situation? Where and how was the company utilizing encryption? Do you think this gave them a false sense of security? D&A Laboratories had an external firewall in place to protect their information systems from unauthorized access. Protecting companies’ data in today’s world can be a challenging task. Firewalls should not be only the solution for protecting companies. Firewalls are designed specifically to prevent threats from the outside world from reaching the internal network. In today’s evolving threat landscape, there should be additional layers of security measures to protect information and information systems. Gondcalves (2000) writes, “Firewalls are designed to keep unwanted and unauthorized traffic from an unprotected network like the Internet out of a private network like LAN or WAN, yet still allowing users and other users of the local network to access Internet services.” But just solely implementing firewalls may not ensure the protection of networks. Gondcalves (2000) further writes, “Nevertheless...

...Before watching the introductory video to professional writing class (like ENGL394), I thought that sort of writing skills can be developed in a real workplace situation. Maybe because I am a mathematics major student, I never knew like readable proposals and professional analysis mean that much in a successful project. I am sure this professional writing class will provide a very good platform for applying what we’ve learnt into workplace. As a college-level writer, I’m driven by my purposes when writing. As what I’ve learnt a lot about argument, thesis statement and position paper from ENGL101 last semester, the most important thing for a writer to do is present enough evidence to audience in a logical structure. I didn’t do very well in it because I constantly failed to focus on my main thesis, which made my paper seem less convincing. To solve this problem, I tried my best to write down a structure of my paper and kept that script with me. It helped me to check out how far I got. According to Lamott’s First Shitty Draft, despite that such process may take a very long while, a writer should spend time on rewriting his/her own work. In my experiences of writing every single piece of assignment, only after reading my works over and over again could I be able to debug them. Another thing I learnt from Debunking the Genius Myth is that the essential way to success in writing is by practicing. Through enough practicing, one can automatically respond to a certain problem...

...As a project manager, how do you identify risks and how do you determine which risks are most important to the project? Each project has a level of risk. However, there are some ways to avoid the risk or come up with strategies that will help the project to be completely accomplished. The characteristics of each project will help the project manager to identify and determine which risks may affect and impact the project objective. A good way to identify the risks would be the risk categories approach. By dividing the project in categories and assessing each one of them it would be easier to establish the level of importance and the potential impact. After identifying the risk, the project manager should be able to estimate aspects such as schedule delays, additional costs etc. and then establish the level of importance of each risk. 8-2.What is the use of a risk assignment matrix? How can this be helpful to a PM? The risk assessment matrix is a project management tool that allows evaluating the probable risks in terms of probability or likelihood of the risk and the severity of the consequences. The information needed to create the assessment matrix can be obtained from the risk assessment forms. The RAM can be an important tool for Project Management since it helps identifying projects’ most important critical processes and functions, identify threats most likely to impact those processes and functions, determine the vulnerability of critical functions and processes...

...When reading Courageous Faith by Ed Hindson I found myself identifying with Samson. In chapter eight Hindson talks about temptation and wrong doing. I found myself identifying with a man named Samson because he fell into his own temptations. Samson was a special man that had superhuman strength, he was set apart to be a Nazirite (“separated one”). He struggled with lust, pride and selfishness. I know that I struggle with desires of my own heart as well. Samson put himself in situations that put many temptations around him. He did not flee from the temptation, instead he fell into the trap. I know that there are many times in my life that I have said “I’ll never do that” but then I was put in that situation I did exactly what I said I’d never do. Sometimes we let our temptation come over us and do the wrong thing. Samson failed to deal with temptation and he paid a terrible price for it. Every time that we fall into temptation, no matter what it is, we are slowly destroying ourselves and not glorifying God in everything that we do. No matter where there is temptation God always provides a way to “escape”. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says, “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it”. Everyone, including myself, falls into temptation at some point or another because we are not perfect but God provides a way...
