Introduction
This week study module is all about my learning styles and how best I make use of my ability to learn, as a student on the MBA program. It is true that I might have a distinctive learning style. This particular learning style might have an impact on how well I am coping in my studies. It is particular true that some might learn best through audial information and others through visuals. Even so, there exist many different theories that were presented to us this week that describes how we as students prefer to learn best.
Preferred Learning Style
Carl Jung (1875 – 1961) developed a theory on learning style that categorises people in terms of different learning personality patterns. He highlighted two important processes that are important in learning, 1) how we take in information and 2) what we do with that information once it is in our brain. He called the first perception and the second judgement. This theory led to the ‘Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator’ (MBTI). However Kolb (2005) believe our learning styles comes from ‘genetics, our life experiences and demand from our current environment’ (Kolb, 2005).
Four different learning styles were also developed and the theory of experiential learning and learning style inventory. In reading the four different styles by Kolb, I can easily associate my learning to ‘The Accommodator’. This style can be attributed to those strong in experience and experimentation. I am a doer and this style is for those that enjoy doing experiments and carrying out plans in reality. I am a risk taker and enjoy thinking on my feet and change my plans according to new information. I tend to put my theory of solving problems to the test which could explain my love for the technical field, although in an aviation field at present.
