Week 5 Discussion Questions

...Week 5 Discussion questions Please respond to the following: * Provide at least two pros and cons for each of these scenarios. 1. A supermarket was interested in determining its image. It dropped a short questionnaire into the grocery bag of each customer before putting in the groceries. This strategy comes with its pros and cons that could be looked into pretty deep. The thing I found most interesting is the obvious element of only getting the opinions of people who already shop there. They are asking people who already see their store with a good image because they chose their store over the competitor. Their survey wouldn’t get real information because it would be more informative to go to other grocery stores and try to hand out surveys asking what they like about that store and what keeps them from going to your grocery store. 2. To assess the extent of its trade area, a shopping mall stationed interviewers in the parking lot every Monday and Friday evening. Interviewers walked up to persons after they had parked their cars and asked them for their zip codes. Pros, non verbal cues are noticed and are helpful in studying the purchase behavior of customers, and the interviewing environment is controlled by the researcher of the shopping mall. Cons, there is no incentive to the customer for completing the survey and they may not take the time to do so and, it might annoy customers that are carrying their purchases out to their car. 3. To assess the popularity...

Using mathematics allows one to know how much the cost of goods are going to be, how much money can be made, and how many people will be needed for a job. Managers should be able to add, subtract, divide, and multiply in order for them to excel in management. The value of an MBA degree is still very good even one does not use it, because it enhances ones outlook on life. However, if one wants to know his cost of doing business or his return on investment as well as gross profit margin, an MBA although not necessary, may be a good addition. It is always a good point of business to somehow know the break-even point also. ...Discussion Question: For this week's discussion, choose a section of the readings and find an article (media, blog, etc) that is related. In your post, relate it to the topic you choose and note what you find interesting. There is quite a bit of flex in what you choose...but the more interesting, the better. Give a summary of what is going on in the article and how it ties in/teaches us something related to this week's materials. This week I found the section of the reading on price gouging the most interesting. The section on price gouging is located in chapter 2 on page 19. Although the section was brief it caught my attention and I wanted to look into it a little more. During my research I came across an article titled “Price Gouging Laws Hurt storm Victims.” In the article the author talks about how the Government creating anti price gouging laws actually hurts the victims of the natural disaster. According to the article, price control create shortages, this happens when the price isn’t allowed to rise to coordinate the wants of buyers with the wants of sellers and as a result shortages occur. The government doesn’t realize that by passing anti-price gouging laws that they believe are helping the victims of natural disasters they are in fact hurting them by preventing them from being able to purchase supplies they need during a crisis. I found this article to be very interesting because the book talks about price gouging in a negative way and how it is a form of price...

Discussion Questions

...Week 3 Discussion Questions HCS / 320 Daisy Gonzalez May 22, 2014 What are the advantages and challenges of teamwork in today’s health care organizations? Provide examples of common obstacles to successful group communication that you have experienced or read about. How did the group work through the challenges? Doctors and nurses, from diverse restraints, who interconnect effectively and work as a single entity, typically increase the quality of care they provide to their patients. There is a uniformity and diligence that can be absent when teamwork is not manifested. In some cases, if the dynamic among health care peers is not tense free, the patient can be affected by the lack of cohesiveness in the service. Patients may be lost in this way. Discussion Questions

...Discussion Question 1 - Week 1 (Thursday): Discuss what makes a successful information security awareness program and how a security awareness program can be one of an organization’s most powerful protection strategies. Security can mean different things to different people. Some believe that security means the protection of property and/or life, while another may believe that it means the guarding of valuable information, such as top secret documents. No matter what your definition of security is, it all has one main thing in common: security is the protection of something from something. When talking about Information Security, this meaning relates more to the protection of data and information. However; how does one protect vital information that is important either to an individual or to a business? The answer is through a solid and well-developed security awareness program. What exactly is an awareness program? Is it making sure that everyone is on the same page or knowing about the policies and procedures of the organization? Discussion Questions

...DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. Even as the lowly executive assistant to the CEO, it was apparent to you that there was some groupthink going on here. Was buying an enterprise system the only option? This is not the only option to deal with the question. Firstly, as Jane Pinket, the senior VP of finance, said the BigCoSoft’s financial package is not good. Thus Jane already have another plan to deal with LargeCoSoft which financial module is top notch. So we do not need to buy BigCoSoft’s financial package. Secondly, as Joe Cole, the senior VP of human resources, emphasized that the Human Resource module of BigCoSoft’s also leaves much to be desired. Furthermore, Joe Cole just spent 12 million in the overhaul of the benefits management system. Therefore, we do not have necessary to buy their Human Resource module. Thirdly, “Enterprise systems are modular in nature, thus enabling the organization that purchase one to decide which functionalities to enable and which ones not to use.”from chapter 3 book. So I think we just buy something we need, we do not need the whole module which include some modules are not necessary. In my opinion, we can buy some parts of BigCoSoft’s module which is necessary or others company module which more suitable for us. 2. You vaguely recall this idea of best-of-breed applications from your information systems class two years ago. Could that approach work here? You can not do it. ...Discussion Question 2: In order to identify and report elements that define an adverse event, medical error and near miss, it is important that the nurse have adequate understanding of patient safety and how it has transitioned from being risk management. However, for the nurse to have understanding of what errors are and how to mitigate them, he or she must promote a system to prevent errors that is patient centered. Having a proper understanding of how errors happen can minimize risk but also set a better course for patient quality care centered on his or her needs. The nurse must have adequate understanding of process management, chain of command and knowledge management. The Institute of Medicine or IOM published a report called Crossing the Quality Chasm (2001) which outlines patient centered quality care. It involves understanding how routine and deviating from automatic processes could cause errors and increase risk. James Reason suggests sometimes this happens because of outside events but other times events happen on the inside of healthcare that he believes can be better controlled. The IOM suggests patient care can be controlled if they are center to the process. Knowledge of healthcare strategies, open communication and partnership between patients, his or her families and healthcare professionals should be the design for minimizing errors. The IOM’s (2001) report suggests safety begins with continuous, customized and controlled care for the patient as this...

Discussion Questions

...WK 1 DQ 1 What does the expression “media literacy” mean to you? Do you consider yourself to be media-literate? Why or why not? What benefits, if any, would you expect to gain from being media-literate? On the other hand, if you were media-illiterate, might that be a disadvantage for you? How so? Media literacy to me means to be aware and knowledgeable in different types of media and to be able to communicate within those media. This would include the use and application of all forms of media and anything relating to it. I consider myself pretty media literate, because I know how to communicate and send messages through most media. I am an avid internet user so therefore can use any forms the internet has to offer in order to communicate. This would include social networking , instant messaging and of course e mailing. I’m a big social network user especially Twitter, where like every other social networking site you can communicate with people all over the world. For me the benefits of being media literate are that I am more educated an able to use classes such as this one. My being on the internet so often has allowed me to take online courses to whereas someone who isn’t, would have a much harder time in an online class. I would say a disadvantage of being media-illiterate would be being cut off from people who you would otherwise communicate with on a regular basis. For those who have family in the military, being media literate allows them to keep in touch...
