...Reyes, Charles Jourdan F. January 14, 2013 V BS Biology Bi183.1 Section A Exercise 1: Baseline Data Results Figure 1. Force (N), ECG (mV) and heart rate (bpm) of the pithed frog. Figure 2. Force (N) per unit time (s) of the pithed frog. Figure 3. ECG (mV) per unit time (s) of the pithed frog. Table 1. Time between QRS and the start of ventricular contraction(s). 1. Observe the heart and describe its behavior. Is this behavior consistent with what is shown in the data above? Yes. The heart of the frog rhythmically contracts and relaxes. This behavior is supported by the general fluctuations observed force values and the consistent patterns of the ECG occurring in regular intervals. 2. Explain the basis for the delay between the atrial and ventricular contractions. The said delay is mainly caused by the A-V node and its adjacent conductive fibers, causing an overall delay of 0.13 second (Guyton and Hall 2006). Conduction in the transitional, nodal, and A-V bundles is dampened by the decreasing number of gap junctions along the pathway of conduction, creating great resistance against the conduction of excitatory ions from one fiber to another. This ensures that the atria completely empty blood into the ventricles before ventricular contraction occurs. 3. Describe the relationship between the ECG QRS complex and the beginning of ventricular contraction. What is the physiological significance of this relationship? ...

...TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP - THE KEY TO SUCCESSFUL MANAGEMENT OF TRANSFORMATIONAL ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGES UDC 65.012.3 Ivana Simić Faculty of Economics, University of Niš, Trg VJ 11, 18000 Niš, Yugoslavia Abstract. Transformational leadership represents the essential quality for successful management of transformational organizational changes. It is about the quality that, in fact, so-called transactional management has missed to bring to an end of the transformational cycles with efficiency. In that sense, the success in realizing transformational organizational changes means that the key people in an organization (managers) develop sets of appropriate skills and attributes that are characteristic to so-called transformational leaders. 1. INTRODUCTION When the organizations adjusted themselves to environmental changes by incremental, evolutionary changes, so-called transactional management was in favor of managing those changes. The conditions of modern organizations functioning require undertaking some radical, transformational changes. Management of such changes requires some new management qualities. One of these qualities is transformational leadership. This article points out the appearance of the transformational leadership concept, its nature and essential qualities (skills and attributes) these phenomenon consists of. 2. TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP CONCEPT As an idea, transformational leadership was first mentioned in 1973, in the sociological...

...CHAPTER 1 THE PROBLEM Introduction The classroom is the place bounded by the wall and roof which teachers houses their students for the purpose of giving instruction to their students. In other words, it is a place where teachers and students engage in discussion. To some teachers, classroom teaching is a complex process in a complex environment whereas to others, classroom teaching is like rearing their own children in their own home. The classroom is an immediate environment where management is applied in order for students to acquire formal knowledge. It is made up of the teacher, students, learning devices, and the learning environment. Management, on the other hand, can be seen as a process of designing and maintaining any setting in which people work in groups for the purpose of achieving common goals. The Oxford Dictionary defines management as the act of running or controlling or skill of dealing with people or situations in any way. Loomiz (1980) defined management as a method where a group of people at the highest level of organization plan, organize, communicate, coordinate, control and direct the actions and activities of people who work for the organization toward the achievement of organizational objectives. In the school setting, in order to achieve its aims, a school has to have objectives, and to achieve these objectives, the various people with responsibilities in the school, especially in the classroom have to plan organize and lead. Classroom management...
