Thank you for your post. Your choice of the sentence to revise is quiet interesting. I located the article itself and it uses lots of citations. Besides the fact that it is a tragic story, “Disney Gator Attack” is a unique article from the perspective of formal diction. The article quotes Sheriff Demings multiple times. The sentence you chose uses the direct quote from the Sheriff as well, and it raised a question for me. Do you think it is appropriate to the formal diction to use short forms of the words like “it’s been” when it is an exact phrase said by someone and quoted in the article?
