...It was a warm and sunny day, we had decided to go to Disneyland for summer vacation, it was last year, and my mom and dad were in a rare happy-go-lucky mood. We planned to stay in a hotel and go to Disneyland every day for the week. My cousins and their parents were somewhere else in the park, and we were planning to rendezvous near the entrance so we could eat together in a few hours. I had went through almost through all of the rides in Disneyland and we were going to leave soon. Well, we WERE. Then I saw the rollercoaster. Let me tell you how menacing the ride looked. The words “Screaming California” (or California Screamin’, I forgot) was implanted in the middle of the ride. As I watched, I saw an attendant lead people into the rollarcar,...

...Around the world there are various theme parks that signify peace, joy and all the good in the world. Then there are those that are the complete opposition of these themes. One of which is a theme park called Dismaland. This distorted yet artistically brilliant theme park is an art exhibition by the British provocateur street artist named Banksy. A well-known street graffiti artist at that. Opened to the public from august 21st to September 27th 2015 in Weston-super-Mare in Somerset, England, Dismaland is this dystopian theme park mocking the works of Walt Disneys and his multi-billion dollar theme parks (Disney World & Disney Land) and Sea world. Using graphic and distorted interpretation of various Disney characters like Ariel from The Little Mermaid and Cinderella crushed under her white pumpkin carriage given the sense of drinking and driving. Something you’ll definitely NOT see in any Disney related theme parks. This particular theme park was not so pleasing on the eyes and signifies the not so friendly, mentally scarring sight for children. Banksy has described the exhibition as a "family theme park unsuitable for children," filled with subversive and darkly comic works that go far beyond street art. [1] This event contains adult themes, distressing imagery, extended use of strobe lighting, smoke effects and swearing. The following items are strictly prohibited: knives, spray cans, illegal drugs, and lawyers from the Walt Disney Corporation [2]. However, one would assume...

...Disneyland Adventures Have you ever watched the commercials about Disneyland on TV? Watching all those happy families enjoying their time spent together. Do you wish you could be there with yours? You can see the food they sell as families walk by each other. You can imagine that food sitting right in front of you. It smells of sweet aromas. Can you imagine how fun it would be to ride all those rides? Or meet all of the Disney Princesses in person? I was about 10 years old when I went to Disneyland for the second time. I was about 3 or 4 the first time I went so I do not have any memories of it. I can remember waking up early to get ready to go. Usually I have troubles getting up in the morning because I am a night owl. This time it was not...

It is soon opening its doors to another one in Shanghai in the first half of 2016. How should Chase have bid in the first round competition to lead the HK$3.3 billion Disneyland financing? 1.Three ways to approach this deal 1) bid to win, 2) bid to lose and3) no bid. Chase chose to bid to lose on the first round, but just enough to make it to the short list. Also, since Chase is one of Disney's relationship banks, Chase would not want to ruin this relationship by not bidding on their project. If Chase wanted to lead the competition from the first round, they should have made a bid that was more aggressive and aimed to win. This bid would have been closer to the desires of Disney, making them more appealing and increasing their probabilities of leading the financing. However, they chose to bid to lose, with just enough terms to get into the second round to "protect their reputation", but not...

...literate knowledge, but more importantly, when critically thinking it is not the result that is most important, but rather how you get there. Critical thinking involves gaining background knowledge on a subject, taking multiple factors into consideration, searching for credible sources, and using these techniques to form an idea or opinion based off of it. It is easy to form and share an idea or opinion based on incomplete or false information, but there are implications to this. At the beginning of the semester, I believed that vampires were fictional characters and didn’t understand how the legend came to be or why it has been preserved for so long. In addition, I had flawed assumptions and views about various historical figures. After research, academic readings, and discussions, I have learned through the bundled lore of historical figures and vampires that our use of illiterate knowledge is dominant in society and that the continued use of this kind of knowledge by the media and large corporations has pushed us into hyperreality, a place where we’re too distracted to seek the truth. Vampire Lore/Logic: Bundled lore is a term used to describe simplistic knowledge that isn’t based off of evidence or fact. Throughout this course, it becomes apparent how most of the average Americans knowledge is based off of bundled lore, like vampires. Before modern day science, in some areas people believed in vampires, and this is due to a lack of understanding of how the human body functions...

...Studies have shown parents want their firstborns to have high status jobs such as lawyers and doctors but they relax on the choices for other siblings. The coaching we get concerning job, affects our achievement and self-esteem. The position of first born is very much geared towards high achievers. 21 out the 23 first astronauts in space were first born children. In a study looking at the birth place order of CEO’s it was found that 43 percent of them were firstborn children, 33 percent were middle born and 23 percent were the youngest children in their family. On the other hand, the youngest sibling in the family may be the one to engage in more reckless behavior such has dangerous sports including sky diving, motor cycle racing, sky jumping, and even football. According to a survey taken in a high school, the younger siblings said they were more sentimental and were less judgmental than their older siblings. The same survey reinforced the studies on firstborns who were geared towards being high achievers as this survey indicated these students rated themselves as being perfectionists. However, studies show that younger children get better grades. This is because they are mentored by the older siblings; they have watched how their older siblings overcome challenges and learn from them. Strangely, the very first studies on birth order never included females. Nevertheless, Montrealers need to know that these studies, especially the earliest ones did not account for the...

...produces 15% of all total waste in St. George, making us the largest waste producer in the area. We need to take responsibility and help solve our city’s landfill scarcity problem. Methodology We used a framework called MECE (mutually exclusive, collectively exhaustive). MECE allows us to find problems that are relevant towards our situation. The methodology allowed us to identify three areas of research that influence the solution that solves our problem; these three spheres of research are cost, community, and competition. Research The first sphere of research is about cost. We identified that the largest increasing cost in Parktopia is the trash disposal cost. The second sphere of research, which dealt with community, identified that our community is burdened by the increasing trash disposal cost and landfill scarcity. The last sphere of research identified that recycling programs are helping our competition reduce costs. Solution The solution that solves all three spheres of research is a recycling program. Our recycling program includes 100 plastic and 100 paper containers, along with formal employee training. The proposed start date is January 1, 2015. Introduction Since 1954, Parktopia has served as one of the leading amusement parks in the Midwest. The park was built in St. George because of the city’s support and financial backing. Our park is visited by millions of people every year, which makes us number one attraction in St George. Because of...

...situations, Dutch Sociologist Gerard Hofstede came up with a study named as Geert Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions in which he laid stress upon five aspects naming Power Distance Index, Individualism, Masculinity, Uncertainty avoidance index and Long term Orientation. The case study in this paper focuses more towards the cultural difference between employees of Disneyland that are located in different countries. Using Hofstede’s 4 culture dimension, highlighting main cultural differences between United States and France: Disneyland is an American Idea of a theme park which serves as a recreational place for children and families. This theme park originally started from Anaheim, California (United States) and later on after receiving massive response from visitors all around the globe, the directors of the company started off with opening similar type of theme parks with the same name of Disneyland in Orlando (US), Tokyo (Japan) and at Marne-la-Vallee (France). Although Disneyland did not find much difficulties in starting off their operations in Orlando and Tokyo and attracting large number of visitors in both locations but the response at Euro Disneyland had been alarming for the company. The Euro Disneyland had 12000 employees and most of them were from France. With the American idea being implemented in France,...

It will describe Walt Disney’s life and what gave him the idea to start such an amazing and magical kingdom. You will understand the reasons on why Walt decided to open up another park in the United States and then all over the world. Such an amazing park with so much history helps explain some of the secrets that Disneyland and Disney World posses. July 17, 1955 was the day the magnificent park was opened to the public. President Ronald Regan, not yet president at the time stood at the gates of Disneyland in Anaheim, California in front of thousands of children and their families introducing Walt Disney to everyone. Walt open the gates to what would soon be known as the Magical Kingdom where dreams come true. Walt christened his new park with these famous words, "To all that come to this happy place: welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past, and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America... with hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world."2 Walter Elias Disney born on December 5,1901 in Chicago Illinois, he was one of five children, four boys and one girl. ...Introduction The Walt Disney Company was originally founded in 1923; a company committed to providing quality and wholesome entertainment experiences to people of all ages. The company is known for the following four segments, which consist of Studio Entertainment, Parks and Resorts, Consumer Products and Media Networks. The Walt Disney Company consists of five (5) Disneyland and Disney Park Resorts, in total. Two are located in the United States, one in Europe and two in Asia Pacific. The original Disneyland Resort was built in 1955, in Anaheim, California; followed by Disney World Resort, Lake Buena Vista, Florida in 1971. After the success of these two large theme parks in the United States, Disney decided to expand internationally. First Tokyo Disney Resort built in 1983, secondly, Disneyland Resort Paris (EuroDisney) which opened its doors in 1992, and thirdly, Hong Kong Disneyland, opening its doors in 2005. Case Study Questions 1. The factors that contributed to EuroDisney, now called Disneyland Resort Paris, poor performance during its first year of operation was the lack of knowledge of their target market, cultural differences between the USA and Europe, and the failure to take into account that “Paris is Europe’s most-popular city destination among tourist of all nationalities”. Disney did a bad job at understanding Europeans and their lifestyles. Unfortunately, for Disney the French were neither happy nor receptive to having what they called “America Cultural...

...Would you risk it? Preventive care is the biggest milestone of the medical world, and vaccination represents one of the most important strategies in the prevention of disease in adults but more importantly children. The choices parents make to immunizations is a questionable debate. For example small pox has been globally eradicated, while diseases such as, polio are virtually nonexistent. Other life-threatening conditions such as measles have been dramatically curtailed to the point where families no longer fear the drastic effects of it. But in the recent outbreak of the measles in Disneyland, one would question if parents are still getting their children vaccinated for the measles. Dr. Andrew Wakefield wrote a research paper in 1998 on how vaccinations specifically measles and MMR could give a child autism, since then the speculations have increased and parents are worrisome. This is where one is at a stance, to vaccinate or not. Measles and other what once were eradicated diseases should be a requirement since scientists have now shown there are no correlations with autism, prevent the disease from spreading to others, and humanity would benefit as a whole. The recent outbreak in the US of the measles have taken parents are taking more towards social media and reading on some ‘news’ of how some vaccinations can cause diseases one of the most common autism. The news went around that the measles vaccination could give the risk of autism, and was even credited by some doctors...
