Disruptive Behavior Scenarios

Rachel, Ryan and Ashley are generally good kids but they present certain unique challenges. It is troubling that they are being disruptive in the class after being debriefed on time outs several times yesterday. Since their disruptive behavior took place only a day ago, and they are already disrupting today's class, it is clear that action must be taken. I would initially address them as a group. Although group intervention seems counterproductive since they have their own respective issues, we are only five minutes into the class so it is clear that they are disrupting the class as a group and must be addressed that way.
The clubs that I would use when addressing the group would be a combination of a stop action and a group reminder of …show more content…
I am aware that Ryan has low self-esteem and is seeking positive responses from his teacher. However, his problems cannot be allowed to cause disruptions in the classroom. The hope is that the calming activity will help him relax, focus, and regain his emotional control. Additionally, it will be a distraction that will discourage him from constantly approaching the teacher for help. If the calming activity is unsuccessful, I will utilize a time out with a verbal debrief. However, I will also incorporate a more extensive verbal reminder of what Ryan should be doing. I am aware that Ryan's parents are very rejecting and Ryan needs positive reinforcement from role models that he respects and that care for him. These factors will all be considered when dealing with Ryan’s disruptions.
Ashley's issues will be dealt with much differently than Ryan's. It is troubling that Ashley is trying to intimidate others and constantly interrupting. Ashley is badly in need of a consequence ladder. The consequences of continued negative behavior will be laid out and this will hopefully lead her towards changing her behavior in positive ways. Additionally, Ashley has a hard time accepting any kind of criticism. The utilization of a consequence ladder will enable Ashley to know what the consequences of bad behavior will be so she cannot criticize others for her poor behavior or the consequences that result from
