Diversity in a workplace is defined as the differences among people with respect to age, class, ethnicity, gender, physical and mental ability, race, sexual orientation, spiritual practice, and public assistance status. Gender diversity has changed the organizations and companies which have always been male dominated, but in the recent years women have come in the workforce with almost 50 percent. When there are different kind of people working for a company or organization it allows for more applicants with a larger range of skills and with women taking such a large segment they are moving higher into the organizations and have become successful. In today’s society, women are taking more active role in their careers. Women are directors of large companies, have their own businesses and take big roles in their communities. But these doesn’t apply to all women, some of them just choose to be more laid back and don’t care so much of thriving to the top. Their appearance and what others think is not that important. They see the world as a challenge everyday whether they are at the office or at home with the family. While in the other hand the other women take their lives very serious. They want to succeed and become something. Age is another diversity in the workforce that has many positive effects for a company or organization, but many people overlook or forget what age diversity can provide. Many people think that an older worker may not have the skills to perform well in the job as an younger worker can. An older worker doesn’t know all the new technology and programs a organization or company gets every year or so. But that doesn’t mean that the older workers are unexperienced. They sometimes might feel threatened by the younger workers just because they are inexperienced and fear the new skills introduced into the group
